    Man I've crossed that bridge more times than I can count. If you couldn't tell in the video the 2 center lanes are nothing but grated steel to cut down the wieght of the bridge deck and allow high winds to pass through instead of catching wind like a sail. Its so trippy crossing the bridge and being able to look through the deck and see the water below.

    • @natureharmonytv

      Definitely a marvel! Some people really dislike driving over the grates, but looking down at the waters below is nostalgic. Such a stunning experience every time!

      I wondered if that's what I was seeing or a shadow. I can't drive on that part because it freaks me out and there was no berm on the right. I would have a panic attack.

    My ex-husband refused to drive over this bridge. Problem was is that brother lived on the north side of upper Michigan. and we lived in the southern part of Michigan. I used to drive across it all the time in 11+ years of marriage. I always say no matter what time of year you visit Michigan. It’s absolutely stunning. Wouldn’t wanna live there again, but it’s absolutely stunning to visit. Enjoy your visit. Have fun.

      Oh fun! Sounds like it will be a great trip! You'll be a Mackinac Bridge pro in no time at that rate. It is pretty impressive how minimal it is over the vast waters. If you make your way to the Island, the ferry companies have bridge tour ferries as well as the Sip N Sail cruises at night generally go under the bridge and talk about it a bit. Really cool to see it from a different angle! Cheers!

      I drove over the Chesapeake Bridge numerous times in my late teens when I was stationed in DC, and spent weekends in Ocean City. Never had an issue. Did it again a few summers ago in my mid 30s, and I darn near had a panic attack. I never would have expected the response that occurred until it happened. I would love to do Mackinaw Bridge but I’m worried I’ll have a similar experience. This was a neat video to watch tho! I cautiously look forward to the drive over one day!

    Hi, so I’m from Florida and have no idea about ice or snow. But wouldn’t the metal grating make trying to drive across it even more challenging? How does that work? Is it regularly salted?? 😮

    • @natureharmonytv
      @natureharmonytv  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello! To be honest, I'm no so sure about salt. I would imagine they'd stay away from salt because it could cause it to rust, but use sand instead. I am really not sure though. I've crossed the bridge hundreds of times in every kind of weather and all seasons. If it's unsafe for any reason, they shut the bridge down or send out pace cars to reduce the speed of traffic. You could probably look up or contact the Mackinac Bridge Authority if you want more detailed information. Thanks for watching and have a great day!
