Its a good option because if you're really bogged on some soft sand and the recovery tracks alone only get you a couple of meters. You can winch yourself a much greater distance onto harder ground. Also, you can pull yourself in direction which could be useful in a couple of situations.
good stuff cobba i hadnt seen any of ya vids till i got recommended your solar panel test yesterday,,immediately subscribed,,since ive watched prob 75% of your vids n lets be honest ay youve come along leaps n bounds the last 18mnths (wats doing in them early vids im sure no one knows, good pancake vid but) Great editting n great content , neva woulda thought of this or usin em as jack plates, keep em comin bloke
Cool and yes I am impressed. As you said way quicker to use the tracks the way they are designed but for situations where you need support when you are stuck on an angle, this seems like a very feasible recovery method. Not having a winch on the 'plastic fantastic' (90 series) I wouldn't have much option but an interesting demonstration.
Have used the maxtrax on slopey beach, very soft sand... when using them as designed the car would get up on top, then slide off closer to the water. Buried one maxtrax, the worst one i had, and pulled us out. Car weighs 3600KG...worked a treat.... did bend the maxtrax in half. But after 7 years of abuse I’m due for some extremes now, in black of course.
I could have used this in norther Moab. Going over a small section of road as most was washed out. On other side washed out and other large drop culvert made from flash floods. Made it through one way. But on way back front made it over then the road gave out on the drivers rear to the frame. Saw that due to angle we couldn’t use max tracking as weed have a strong possibility of us doing a roll over due to be at max articulation. We started to dig down and use maxtrax as an anchor point since there where no suitable anchors in the area. But never got to do as about two feet down digging another vehicle came and used a kinetic rope.
I like to see a load metre test with a camper trailer in sand, how very low tyre pressures can help you And how much load metre difference when you use a Maxtrax trailer skid.
great video, thnx. How is the Mazda holding up? Is it a good overlander? I have the Eunos 800 and it is serving me well. Looking into getting something for offroad use now
You sure made your point. Just a question does your canopy suck any dust? Also do you have any venting on canopy? It’s just I’m looking for ideas, I’m going to buy a new 2018 model, and have a alloy canopy made for it. Dave Queensland
Hey, loved the video. Subscribed to your page. Do you have a video where I can get a better look at your 4x4 build? I’m especially curious about the trunk piece you have. I’m looking to start a project 4x4
r g crawl control relies on your tyres having sufficient traction to drive the vehicle forward. In this case, the tyres have dug into the sand, and any rotation, however gentle, will only result in digging deeper into the sand. So it’s not likely you’d achieve anything. You may get somewhere if you had that Mercedes system where it bounces the car, so as you are spinning tyres, the bounce actually allows the sand to fill the hole in theory. But I’m yet to be convinced it’ll do anything when you are seriously bogged 😂
Nice video, wonder where your winch controller is located.. Planning to install one myself and planning to get the recovery remote control wiring to the inside car so no need to get out :) Love the Mazda BT50
Thanks 🙂. The winch comes with a wireless remote, it has a range of about 30m. After having in-cab switches in my last car and having the wireless in this car, I'd take the wireless any day. You can operate it from outside the car, handy for spooling your own winch rope after a recovery 🙂. Atleast with in-cab switches they are hardwired, so in theory nothing can go wrong 👍
Hey Joe, I just got acouple of more things I'd like to do before a walk thru, but I'll probably do a video like that in the next couple of months, stay tuned 🙂
Mate you need to take recovery seriously no matter how easy the situation. You need all the right gear. For instance that card table seems terribly under equipt, not a beer in sight. Amateurish!!! 🤣
Just watched the video of all four of you bogged in sand and only aloud two maxtrax each Maybe you should of used this technique agains the normal way??? Standard use vs ground anchor which is faster?
Lovin the lazy man style, kick back and let it get its self out.👍 I have seen years ago an anchor (simular to a boat) for sand recovery, it worked well but was bulky. May have been on the Leyland brothers, not sure.
While I think you're right that in practice it would make more sense to just use the trax how they were designed but it is entertaining to just answer the question. :-D I think Benny Banger is on the money but you may have to have a fixing on the bottom and part way up. The aim is to make the trax act like a plough type anchor where it digs in the more you pull on it!
All I need now is a 4wd vehicle and a winch! I already have a wanna be Maxtrax clone, strap and a come along. When did men's short shorts come back into fashion?
@@SeekAdventure Are you planning on going again anytime soon? Thanks to your vids letting us know they have opened the track again some mates and I are heading down weekend of 23/24 Feb :)
My gut feeling is you need to attach the strap slightly below the middle of each track to use the wieght of the pull to bury the tracks. That would mean you wouldn't need to bury the tracks quite as far down as they should bury themselves when pulling. Why not try it with only one track using this approach?
@@SeekAdventure Fair enough Michael. Curiosity got me! -Always generates more work - usually for me! Damn good point too - when you are in the situation, YOU will work out a way!
Burying them they way you did would be better than burying them flat as it’s about the sand in between the anchor and the car, not on top of the anchor
Boat (sand) anchors pull deeper into the sand the harder you pull on the rope until they can no longer displace the sand- just have a rope on the back end of it to pull it out after! Some sand anchors work better than others however so maybe do a comparison test, because with an anchor you dont have to dig a big bloody hole......
“If you still don’t believe us make your own video and show us how its done” BEST line ever!!!!!! Hahah keep it up guys 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Like the choice of music you added! Laughed when I saw Meisha’s subtitles! Great job!
I miss this guy, always made good videos.
For safety, stand clear of winch recovery operation... by playing cards works. 🤣 PS I just stumbled on your Chanel and love it ! 🇨🇦
Awesome mate. Absolutely no need to buy a sand anchor, after seeing this. Cheers for posting
More options are always a good thing. Break your 4X4 while stuck in sand, the maxtrax may not work as designed but this is an excellent second chance.
Hahaha! that's gold. So well done, and the music just topped it off.

Keep up the great work mate .Always love watching your stuff . And I knew it would work too 👍
Do a video on your truck and add ons.
U guys are legends!
Awesome work. Well done.
Great to have this as an option! Ty!! What kind of winch do you have? The winch is what was pulling on and off right?
I think it would work even better if you wet the sand around the MaxTrax.
Ha ha ha ha ha, contagious enthusiasm wins. Magnificent!

👍 Wonderful , you really buried the DEADMAN. 🤣
New subscriber here. I noticed your canopy while you were playing cards. Now I want one like it. Can you tell me the make and model of the canopy?
He has a video on the canopy brand that I remember seeing.
If you had enough winch line could you do a two line pull to reduce the force against the buried board making them less likely to pull out?
Hahaha great skit mate, loving the videos, with your ropes ticket do you do any other work other then the highrise windows?
Is that Parry beach? Looks like the bit I was thinking of tackling, but luckily my wife talked me out of it haha.
Great experiment mate

Gotta love an Aussie's sense of humour.\
Would also be handy for tracks where you actually need to get over a hill/obstacle and its soft and cant be driven.
I miss you guys when are you comm8ng back?
I know it’s old, I know you quit doing it. But. They are still good vids and still relevant.
Another rad vid...👌...

I think you might be right about there would be more weight dragging it up the hill !

So it would only work on VW Combis then?
That’s awesome

Great vids. You should do a review on the sunyee recovery tracks to go with the solar panel. They are pretty cheap
Hey what camera are you using for most your filming?

One even has a bt and has expressed his interest in frothing over yours hahahah
Real world example: Perfect for when you are on your own and have a long soft sand section before you can get back to the harder sand

Would love to catch you camping your great would be a fun trip
Great video! Lol
Mate, the saying does not go “the proof is in the pudding”, it goes like this: the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
Try it with a boat anchor see if it works, save yourself a lot of digging.
Yeah because everyone wants to carry a frigging boat anchor in their 4x4 lol
I don’t know why people wanted you to do this bogged. Pulling yourself up a hill while giving it no drive was plenty proof for me
Beats me Dale! I don't have a load cell to measure the forces, but I imagine pulling it up a hill would put way more pressure 🤷♂️
Is JUGGIE Australian for juggalo? If so...leave him there.
All that digging and you didn't even make a sand castle.
Fuk the heroes in the comments mate ur living the dream
👍🏼🤣
I'm in the snow and freezing cold and this dude is on the beach wearing a t-shirt 😒
