    I started nasal breathing about 5 years ago, I read about it on line and did further research and came across 24/7 nasal breathing, I was having trouble breathing, at my regular weekly gig, I'm a musician going back to my car up a small hill was getting difficult having to rest 2 or 3 times to get my breath, that moring I went into town and kept my mouth shut this is what made me take it seriously within 24 hours my nose was completly clear then I noticed when getting in and out of my car my neck and shoulders had no pain, within a few days my posture had improved dramatically, my lung function improved over the next few weeks and I walk to my car with ease, I still breath through my nose and I now sleep with my mouth shut and get a good nights sleep and when I wake up in the morning I'm in the same position I went to sleep in and go to sleep very quickly.

    I am about to buy your Book.
    Was wondering if doing nasal breathing, throughout the day, and mouth taping for the sleep, will help me with my Hot flushes (Menopausal symptoms).
    During hot flushes my body temperature get messed up, to hot, my face become sweaty!!
    So, that's the reason why I want to implement nasal breathing in my daily life.
    Thanks again

    Super-cool! Thoughts on why is evolution making them shrink tho? Since I started doing yoga and pranayama, I've noticed my sinuses weren't proportional and that my nose was too sunk in to breath properly. Focusing on lifting my tongue to the roof of my mouth makes me have to widen my nose (thereby pulling it forward) to get the same amount of air into my lungs. I have seen that I've changed my face shape this way. I used to look like my dad but now I'm starting to look more like my mom.
    I feel I'm counteracting my computer-based life, "text-neck", etc. If you tilt the adjusted photo of the girl upward, like she was greeting someone rather than looking at her phone, the front of her face would be perpendicular to the ground. Is this the "evolution" we're in for? I'm doing my best to opt out... More face to face social interaction!

    as a Biologist my view is, we ignore in our daily autopilot ignorance all the permanent damages we do to ourselves - being ignorant what toxic stuff we encounter all the time. Latent Stress reduces the Frontal Cortex to promote fast reactions. Which further enhances the Autopilot to do conditioned routines. Which usually make everything worse! It takes a sharp interference of the Frontal Cortex to start deliberate analytic reactions. Which may allow for pauses and activating deliberate breathing patterns. In my view, this is a Master Manipulation technique to dominate another person by suppressing their breath response. Needs careful study!!

    • @chrisludolph348
      @chrisludolph348 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      not a biologist, are you essentially saying that this causes us to stay in an inefficient (resource wise and toxic accumulation) state which keeps us in an alert state of mind and constantly evaluating solutions? as an engineer i notice that if im somewhat sleep deprived or have a sense of urgency I can define and evaluate solutions much faster then if im well slept and at peace?

    • @raginald7mars408
      @raginald7mars408 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      the only way to be analytical, open, to reflect - requires the frontal cortex of the brain to be fully functional. To be FAST - requires this Frontal Cortex function to be shut down. This is a paradox of nature. The Autopilot is based on conditioned reflexes, that can act the fastest. It takes long training to deliberately shut off the Autopilot. STOP!
      A complex situation and Pressure does not allow this - So you depend on the reflexes that are fast. This biological riddle creates the actual world situation we are in. Those who are able to Think and analyze and propose solutions to act on - are overruled by the impulsive autopilots, who act only in the realm of conditioned reflexes in Autopilot. And the Sheeple follow... Hard to train, to never be in the herd...

      In through the nose and out through the nose. Ideally, five/six seconds on both the inhalation and the exhalation. Calm, gentle, into the belly.
      Other techniques like Wim Hoff, Holotropic, Kriya are all good but are not designed for minute to minute, hour to hour everyday breathing.

I've found myself mouth breathing at work while having to wear a mask and a little tape over the center of the mouth stops the mouth breathing and I am still able to talk or breath through the corners of my mouth if I have to. He recommends Nexcare Medical Tape Durapore Cloth. If you have a mask on your face you won't look totally crazy with tape over your mouth 😂

    the word "perfect," repeated so many times by Nestor, is disorienting & confusing. because it is now so associated with certain facial & body features & our idea of beauty.. i wonder if healthy or functional would be better state the idea.. the skull changes over time & flattens & the mouth shrinks & cannot accommodate the teeth.. thus it is disfunctional & unhealthy..

    Basically, hyperventilation.

      Hm. That's an interesting interpretation. I can definitely understand how some breathwork techniques can feel that way.
      James is suggesting breathing through your nose. He's not suggesting increasing the rate at which you are already breathing.

      @@Floatconference The yogic breathing amounts to hyperventilation. As well as the free diving stuff.
      I recall reading a story of a young fellow who was making quite a name for himself as a big wave surfer out at Mavericks. A dominant male. Apparently he used to do free diving in order to increase his ability to survive long holdowns. So he went to the Maldives during the off season and would practice hyperventilating and sitting on the bottom for as long as he could. He went out alone on one occasion which is not something you're supposed to do because you can enter an ecstatic trance state and lose your instinct for survival. I guess they set the beeper on their watch in order to remind them to head for the surface. When he didn't return his buddies went looking for him. They found him on the bottom just sitting there, dead. His watch was going off and apparently he had a huge grin on his face. He didn't want to come back. That's what mahasamadhi amounts to. I believe his name was Jay Moriarity, or something very close.

    As someone with ADHD, this is straight-up dangerous pseudoscience. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is hereditary and incurable, so no breathing method would be able to treat ADHD in the way Nestor implied. Claiming cancer can be treated through breathing is absurd at best, incredibly dangerous at worst. No one should be taking this seriously.

    • @Floatconference

      There are a significant number of disciplines that use breathwork to calm the body and ease anxiety. ADHD is not curable, but people with ADHD can benefit from breathing exercises. People can use their breath to change the way their body and mind reacts to their surroundings.

      That's how it used to be seen a few decades ago. Now, scientists are starting to think it's more likely to be a sleep disorder than "lazy brain not producing enough dopamine for some unknown reason". Besides neuro-imaging data suggesting a strong link between ADHD and sleep issues, the prevalence of sleep issues in those with ADHD is _FAR_ too great to just be coincidence. Eg: In ADHD, one common symptom is procrastinate sleeping, but this is due to the fact you subconsciously know you can't breathe properly while asleep; those with ADHD are significantly more likely to start day dreaming or lose focus, know what else that's a symptom of? Sleep depravation, I mean, ADHD = guaranteed "day _dreaming_ "; it's also almost impossible to feel refreshed after waking up.
      If you have ADD, bet you've _never_ breathed properly in your whole life. It took me like 2 years to really understand the muscles I have to engage. It's REALLY fucking hard, it's like snoring, but slightly different. It's a whole body function.
      Also, I have to say, it would take a crazy level of ignorance and stupidity to believe a 10-200% increase in airflow would have no effect on ability to concentrate and feel alert.
