I came looking for a quick primer on EVA foam to see what all the fuss is about in case I wanted to invest in a new costume technique for my favorite holiday. Thnx for this. I'm planning on making a Kaiju No.8 cosplay and wanted to know some foam tips. The toxic part was definitely a good headsup. I'll remember to buy a proper mask
Hey, Thanks. I'm new to this but just bought a EVA 10mm roll and 2mm sheet for a simple project, but I'm new. Thanks for video, I'll be going over it a few times. Fingers crossed.
Working on making props for my characters I made, the first one is a moon shaped staff, I have a version in cardboard but it just doesn't work well and looks so unbelievably crappy- I was looking for cosplay tips and this was very helpful!! Will visit this channel again :3
I'm sure this video has helped a ton of people, but to me personally I felt like, "Okay, so that's the kind of foam I need. Okay, and I'll get some glue. And a dremel. And paint. And primer for the paint. And maybe a heat gun. And probably some putty. And..." I didn't realize cosplaying was such an expensive hobby.
Thanks i started going to cons and wanted to dress up too I’m tryna make amour but honestly never done anything like this before this video answered many questions lol
This is so helpful! Thank you! My son wants to be Odysseus and wants me to be Athena for Halloween this year. He’s going to be so excited to have a cooler costume than the basic costume/armor I’ve been finding ready-made online. I love what I’ve been finding on Etsy, but can’t afford it right now, so I’ll give it a try!
Ty for the amazing vid info!!! I'm a beginner and makin my teenager a costume with angel wings so my question is what thickness would I want also the length say 5 foot long fallen angel wings of course I'm gonna use black foam because fallen angel would be prob in the 3mm range? Something not heavy would have to be lightweight I have to make feathers and still need to figure a base out as well outta crafting wire....
awesome video! i plan on making guts berserker armor soon, and i still need to make a normal chestplate for my guts black swordsman cosplay, so this video helped a ton
Question for someone tempted to step into cosplay. I know you said don't use the 2mm foam for armour, but could I use 2mm for a dome part for my head to make a "bald look" that I could attach tubes etc to (borg cosplay)
Not Cosplay but a Airbus A320 Flight Sim instrument canopy. EVO looks good to accomodate the curves but how to subsequenty get the stiffness? I have used Carbosil in the past with 2 component resin pasted in slits in the curver areas or is there a better way?
What's the best kind of paint for painting foam? With and without primer? (I'll be making feathers for wings so I'm not sure if I want to prime) I usually stay away from painting things because I don't like the finish of acrylic paint, but my wings will be white so I will need to. Would chalk paint work and give a nice finish? Thanks so much in advance!
hi! I want of craft the safi'jiiva light bowgun from monster hunter world with a 1:1 ratio and was thinking of buying 4 foam block, glue them and cutting the foam. 1. do you recommend that I do it that way or not? 2. if it's okay, do you recommend putting a core or the gun is bulky enough to not be floppy? (40cm wide)

I want to make a fnaf Foxy mask(and if I get more into cosplay stuff then the full cosplay) what do you think sir? How wide should the foam be? How big should the foam be?
Is there a good way to having the foam stick to skin? im trying to do an effect of having metal plunged into my back and arms. (trapper from Dead By Daylight)
Quick question for priming wich one do you think is better out of the 2 you mentioned. Its my first time making a Pharah cosplay armor from eva foam and I want to make sure Im doing it right
I can highly recommend cospaint primer color! It's half primer half paint. comparable with flexbond in a way. It can also be sprayed when thinned down using a compressor sprayer. but it has a real high pigment and coverage -SkyShark
Can you prime and paint EVA foam without heat treating it? The thing I wish to make doesn't need any heat shaping and I'm not really in a position to buy a heat gun.
how water proof is this stuff? i dont need it to survive being completely submerged or anything, but can it withstand things like light rain, splash water or that kind of thing
It won't have the same effects I'm afraid, I've seen some people use their vacuumcleaner while dremeling to avoid most of the dust. other than that i can only suggest to maybe dremel at a friends place or somewhere outside. good luck!
see i think i made the mistake of buying low density foam when i wanted high density, cuz when i use my heatgun on it. it melts cuts back together instead of spreading them :(
@@cosplayshopyt would it be possible to make like a space for spray painting like some tent because the area I make cosplay is where I also paint portraits and sneakers and getting dust there ruins it.
hi i need help with this i am a student and im makeing a big rocket backpack for an assesment. is there another way to heat shape foam. ive google and it recommends an iron but i cant find a video on it. could you please help me out or even do a video on this thanks. please responed i really need help
Hi! we highly recommend to just get a heatgun! you can get them for around 20 bucks. Don't ever use an iron, an oven or microwave or anything like that. Some people might also say use a hairdryer, but not only is it not hot enough to properly heat seal the foam, it will take FOREVER just to get some shape in it. A heatgun is the only way.
@@cosplayshopyt I might try that, personally I've been able to get results that are just as good with a hair dryer it just takes a little longer, so I've just never bought another one. At the same time though I've only ever made small stuff with it.

This was very helpful for my Ballister cosplay! I do have a question though; Can I use an iron to heat up my foam (5mm, high density) ?
I wouldn't do that! not only can it be dangerous, it will also not properly heat seal the foam like a heatgun does

I want to make a fnaf Foxy mask(and if I get more into cosplay stuff then the full cosplay) what do you think sir? How wide should the foam be? How big should the foam be?

What's it like to wear costumes made of EVA foam? Is it hot to wear? What's the best thing to wear under it?
It’s actually quite cool to wear (depending on the armour) it’s very light and can be adapted on top of pretty much any clothing
Where do you get the larger foam sheets and blocks?
This is amazing! The website is down however
I have a small heat gun that gets upto about 200°c. Would that be enough to heat set?
When are you guys going to start shipping to the US?..

Can you prime and paint EVA foam without heat treating it? The thing I wish to make doesn't need any heat shaping and I'm not really in a position to buy a heat gun.
You could! However heat sealing it will just give it a better result. -Skyshark
how water proof is this stuff? i dont need it to survive being completely submerged or anything, but can it withstand things like light rain, splash water or that kind of thing
if you seal it after your paintjob it could withstand light rain for sure!
Do you have to use a dremel? I live in an apartment, so I'm not sure a power tool like that would be a good idea. Can I use "manual" sandpaper?
It won't have the same effects I'm afraid, I've seen some people use their vacuumcleaner while dremeling to avoid most of the dust. other than that i can only suggest to maybe dremel at a friends place or somewhere outside. good luck!
Can you use JuST the clay for throwing weapons? … if so how long does it dry.. I’m currently testing it.. just put them in the molds today..
The foam clay? takes around one to two days to dry! But I wouldn't use it for things that are too big without having a support
Just wondering(for my own safety) where did you get your mask from? I dont want to buy a low quality mask and end up in trouble.
Just got them from a hardware store! I figure they should all be fine
What kind of contact cement do you use
Ive never actually used 7mm I usually get 6mm or 8mm foam for most props and armors
What for sort of mask should you wear?
When dremeling just a dust mask is fine! whenever working with glue or other toxic liquids, always a respirator. :)
EVA FOAM IS GOD.
Foam Blocks? They look like archery target blocks. What in the world would someone need them for?

probably just high density would work best! Don't forget to add a core inside or it will be floppy 8) good luck!
hwo to harden foam ?I don't want it to be flexible but hard
Hey how do you deal with the dust the dremel makes when sanding Eva foam. Is there a tent or something that can keep from spreading everywhere?
