    Totally agree with being patient! I’ve waited for sales to make heritage clothing more affordable for me. There are times where I miss out on stuff but by and large by waiting until I find stuff on ebay or for Black Friday or other sales I’ve saved hundreds of dollars.

    White's Perry Select moc toe fixed the problem with their $300 version, upgraded leather and construction for $100 more. Rose Anvil did a video about it recently. They also run a sale around Black Friday and Fathers Day.

      I agree. I got a pair last year for Black Friday sub $300 and it was a great value and they’re great boots. I wear them four seasons and have gotten a lot of wear in them. The welt stitch is uneven in stitch density but as these are purely casual/light work. They’re great for me. I appreciate the width options too.

    Another plus for red wing is that if you’re new to boots, their in store fitting experience is pretty solid. I took my roommate to the location in Culver City and they scanned his feet and everything before he picked out a pair of iron rangers. This is his first pair of boots and he loves them.
    I’m a Grant Stone man myself, but there’s more room for error in the fitting process since there aren’t any physical retail locations.

    • @tacline2
      @tacline2 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have heard good things about the Red Wings stores, but I didn't have nearly that experience. I went in and asked about sizing and everything when I was looking for a pair of Iron Rangers, and the staff really seemed to just be phoning it in. Seemed annoyed to be getting asked by a customer to try on boots. Then when I finally found what I liked, they took the boots back to get a new box (the ones they were in was beat up bad), and when I got my boots home I had 2 different sized boots in the retreat I didn't notice until I had worn them for a few days (dumb of me, I know, but really how could I have expected this). Tried to take them back amd exchange them, but staff said they were too worn now and won't accept a return. Contacted Red Wing CS online and they got me swapped out in a couple days.

      @@tacline2 Agreed; last time I bought a pair of Worx from them and after a year I somehow managed to destroy the inside of the boot. Went back to the store and discovered that they were way too wide so my foot was moving around too much.

      Yep, I was thinking of that boot as well, I actually brought a pair. Nailed the sizing after calling them. Boy are they heavy duty work boots for a little finish carpenter like me. Can't wait to start wearing them this winter. Quality wise, the stitching is good, leather good, they feel like tanks on your feet. I did notice that the rough out fibers on one of the boots was a little looser than the other boot. But all and all a solid purchase...these boots will out live me.

    Thanks for the video. You also reminded me of a few things.
    Frank's is definitely a great boot! I have seen their Patriot in person but I don't own it. It seems rock solid.
    I own their 77 last, it's something the owner Frank himself built from scratch. Really nothing else like it I've found anywhere else for fit and feel. It's odd that no one really talks that particular last up when it truly sets Frank's apart.
    They also do an amazing Lace to toe from people here local. The roofers and construction guys seem to love them!
    But I like the fact Frank and his Wife were born and raised in the area as locals to me.
    I have yet to step into the lace to toe. But from a bespoke perspective I have had LTT recommended to me from Frank, Ron Rider, and Willie from the Philippines. I suppose I need to bite next year.

    I just have one question about pre owned boots
    How do you solve them molded leather midsole
    As leather conforms to the wearers foot how does the new owner get around that would they just wear it until it conforms to their foot and would it hurt Thier feet while they wait would they need to get a relast

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In most cases, guys sell their boots before they fully conform so it shouldn't be an issue. Also, if you have similar or same sized feet, the imprint should be fairly similar. However, you could change the insole.

    So many buy boots in incorrect sizes that there are often good deals to be had in second hand boots. Because I trash some of my boots as dog walking boots that I use walking through forest and moorland, I typically look for second hand good quality goodyearwelted boots rather than cheap boots.

    Hi Jake. Very informative video, as usual. I have had a pair of White's Perry moc toes (the standard ones, not the Select ones) for about two years now and they're holding up great. The leather patina is awesome. Construction is solid. No issues. You're right that the construction is not like proper PNW logger or fire boots - it's similar to Red Wing with GYW and cork filling. Unlike Red Wing moc toes, though, the Perry has a steel shank, which I appreciate. I also have a pair of Frank's Front Range boots and heartily recommend Frank. I got them for $100 off during one of his periodic sales. I tell you what, though. The Front Ranges ARE real PNW boots and they are some heavy duty son-of-a-guns. Might be too much boot for only casual wear. But the arch support is fantastic. Last thing I'll mention for the bargain hunters out there is to watch out for Rancourt's seasonal pre-order sales. They often put their boots on preorder at well under $300, an outstanding price for MiUSA boots. I don't own their boots, but am very happy with my Rancourt camp mocs. Cheer!
