Cinebench-wise, R23 is x64-only and entirely emulated on win/arm64 via Prism. Cinebench 2024 has an arm64 version, but you need to deliberately download that -- the app cannot figure out the host arch on its own.
Battery life is great, but seems they still have a lot of teething issues to deal with. That said, ive had a google pixelbook for years and still use it for some things
I think having one of these if you are wealthy as a second laptop is the best way to go about it. Figure out what you can use remotely and use the battery life
Thanks Leo, good review, seems like one to hang fire on until at least the gen 2 laptops in 2025 or 2026 - I want to see if they continue to support it
Thanks Leo, I can safely say I think we should just stick with Intel and AMD for the time being unless you use office or something similar and need max battery life on the go
That intro was hilarious. Maybe copilot could have used AI to fix it from spelling out the name of the actual platform its using. Thats my key takeaway
I like Leos reviews, always tells it like it is - just surprised that AI seems to not have developed much since they announced it. Even the copilot+ response was just voice to text from some stupid website
QCOM Windows ARM laptops aren’t selling at all. Laptop buyers will buy an AMD or Intel instead. Nvidia is the only hope for Windows ARM laptops next year!
I am actually excited to see how things go with AI in the next two years - once they figure out how to do hands, arms and feet and eyes, it might have a chance of fooling people
Was the fan very loud under load? Acer's Swift GO 14 with Core Ultra 155H can product one of the loudest fan noises among the laptops with a similar spec.
really not as bad as I thought, I had imagined this would be a horror story. At the end of the day if you are only using it for light case scenarios it will be fine - some general office stuff, emails., web browsing, you tube. but for similar money you might get very similar battery life from one of the new AMD CPU's. shame it wasnt compared, but with all the variables I appreciate its tricky
wrong, there are other channels who have done strenuous work on it, and it was fine - but your free to treat the current stuff like the stuff from 5 years ago. Also, many issues can be traced to the maker of the kaptop and what settings they default to for bios and whatever sku of windows they ship with. Alex Ziskind has great videos on it - and I find a lot of the coverage otherwise to be unfortunate by comparison
Great work as usual. Was all the test software - other than the games - native ARM? Would your opinion change if you restricted usage to native ARM software like Office?
I think you're being way too easy on it - 5 max. 1200 quid is an awful lot to spend on something that you can't be sure will run anything. The chassis looks pretty flimsy too. I wonder how long it will last before something breaks?
I will give this one a miss then - but appreciate the work you put into it. I assume you wouldnt have an ARM laptop Leo yet, even for travelling and battery life?
Nice job Leo and KG - screen looks very dull, but likely optimised for battery life. Found the same with my macbook but there is a third party app to brighten it up even more
Interesting video, always like your takes as they arent a mainstream viewpoint, more the view of an enthusiast user and a lot of channels dont think like this.
Good luck getting Qualcomm to open up their hardware to external software. They are notoriously secretive and laggy with drivers especially. They drove me to the iPhone after years of getting sick of their abandonware.
Trouble is with pre compiled software it’s very hard to get the performance out. Linux on this thing would be a very different story as you can get native compiled stuff way easier.
Seems to be so many compatibility issues and X86 issues for Qualcomm, to be fair its a tall order with all the softwware packages, but it still some way from being a main system for most people
Qualcomm Snapdragon has not been too bad out of the gate, for a launch product, there will always be teething issues with such a new platform - will take some time to get issues ironed out
X86 is such a well developed platform, using ARM is like going back in time 20 years - microsoft will hopefully continue to work with them on it, but like any new platform, its going to have problems
I almost bought a Surface, but I watched a few reviews and the apps I use are not yet fully supported so its a waste of time and money for me personally
I show the settings during the video, including full brightness. It is worth remembering that companies that are keen to save battery power don't want to waste it on a bright OLED panel. Leo
These laptops need to be priced a fair bit less, after all there are still a lot of apps not supported and you get performance penalities for running X86 under emulation
its not a bad laptop tbh, but I dont think qualcomm and X86 under emultation is a good idea right now. so many issues ive seen online. would be ok for lighter work loads for office stuff
This is very expensive for what it is IMO, you can get an entry level Nvidia discrete laptop at similar pricing with a lot more power. I understand this isnt necessarily the audience, but still
Performance is a bit disappointing but wonder how much of that is down to unoptimised software working on a very different architecture? Windows is inherently x86 friendly with most of Microsoft's efforts so far a bit half arsed.
bruh 5/10 was already too high the compatibility problem is HUGE, if you want battery and browser just get a 1/4 priced tablet + a 10$ bluetooth keyboard
Anything with native ASM code is going to be awful on this thing. Which means anything computationally intensive is going to be slow as it’s going to have to emulate.
Thank goodness Leo reviewed this instead of AI. Ai will never be able to replicate Leo. Ever.
Copilot 🤣
One youtube site already "borrowed" @JeffGeerling voice in they videos without his permission. All that talk was generated by AI.
@@dreschaffhausen5693 Copilot. It's the Zune of AI 😂

I'm more interested in the USB power meter than the laptop, this might be a cause for concern amongst Qualcomm marketing executives.
Nice review Leo, always honest, thanks!
That bandwidth is amazing theyve got something special going on there.
Leo - never replaced by AI !!!
I think having one of these if you are wealthy as a second laptop is the best way to go about it. Figure out what you can use remotely and use the battery life
Thanks for another great review Leo! :)

windows on Ayaram haha
Life is just so complicated now, AI can be used for the good, but so much of it right now is utter nonsense
The next year will see if AI use cases on a laptop makes even any sense. So many tech things end up as fads for the mainstream consumer
I like Leos reviews, always tells it like it is - just surprised that AI seems to not have developed much since they announced it. Even the copilot+ response was just voice to text from some stupid website
Its a solid looking laptop, the screen looks a bit flat in the video, and its expensive for what you get
Wonder how these are selling, reception seems to be less than luke warm from channels ive seen reviewing them.
Think so far they are a bit of a curiosity and they are priced way too high,

If you buy a laptop for AI just now you are mad in the head, its not even a platform yet - like Apple AI and iPhone 16’s - not even out yet
Was the fan very loud under load?

Nicely done Leo 🎉
Great review Leo thank you
Got to love the battery life you get out of ARM.
I like this laptop, but its expensive and I dont think i would want to deal with the issues that Leo has reported to be honest

Well thanks for the honestly, some other big channel have glossed over some of this but Kitguru definitely is more for the hardcore enthusiast user
Not sure whether to pull the trigger on one of these or wait a bit.
Interesting video, always like your takes as they arent a mainstream viewpoint, more the view of an enthusiast user and a lot of channels dont think like this.
What laptop do you use Leo for travelling or do you use a tablet?
A Zenbook 14 running on Intel 11th Gen
Leo
Why is the 3d mark CPU profile scoring so high?
Good review thanks
nice review and can you do a dump dsdt of this device i will tell you how to do it i need it for the woa project
Good luck getting Qualcomm to open up their hardware to external software. They are notoriously secretive and laggy with drivers especially. They drove me to the iPhone after years of getting sick of their abandonware.
When is the new Intel stuff released properly?
Aren't you supposed to download ARM release of CB2024 ?
ARM still has a lot of issues, its great to see more competition, but moving f rom the X86 platform will come with some issues
anyone know if there any way to resolve the compatibility issues with ARM software? curious to know how it would work 😁
Trouble is with pre compiled software it’s very hard to get the performance out. Linux on this thing would be a very different story as you can get native compiled stuff way easier.
Love how Qualcomm supplied performance figures for cinebencz 2024 which doesnt run on it
The arm version runs fine on arm.
Too many issues for me still. Will take some time to sort for Qualcomm if Microsoft out the resources into it
I bought a cheap ARM laptop to play with it out of interest and its quite good, battery life is great, but its still got a lot of support issues
Auto tune, AI, fake videos, fake everything - welcome to 2024. Can we go back in time to before I was born?
Really interested to see the power draw against the new zen 5 and the new intel whatever it was called that was demoed the other week.
That camera is CLEAN
Cannot see the software issues being resolved soon with this platform.
It’s cool to see ARM laptops, nice to see Microsoft branching out of their x86 comfort zone.
That screen looks very dull at full brightness - likely to save battery as it would suck the battery dry quickly
That GPU performance is a bit depressing is it their own core?
Needs a lot more development and support to become a threat to Intel and AMD - X86 has been the industry standard for so long
Seems to be so many compatibility issues and X86 issues for Qualcomm, to be fair its a tall order with all the softwware packages, but it still some way from being a main system for most people
I hope they keep developing it, I b ought a surface qualcomm laptop and while its good, a few apps are giving me nasty issues at times
Qualcomm Snapdragon has not been too bad out of the gate, for a launch product, there will always be teething issues with such a new platform - will take some time to get issues ironed out
Ai - wow its being pushed on even my music channels I watch - even making videos now for big bands like Queen - its sh1te too
research this - ARM is not ready for mainstream use - Apple have it worked out, but its a closed ecosystem so its been fine for them.
I want one of those USB-C power draw dongles Intel use they are really cool.
Its not for me, but it is good to see other companies trying to get into a very competitive market between two long standing companies
AI everything, I even got an email from Seasonic at the weekend saying they were making power supplies to support AI platforms.
Wow, that a shambles that was for ARM - or A, R, M
Then you were very generous with that 7/10 result.
Good review, nice laptop, but expensive for what you get

Me too ended up buying the apple keyboard for the iPad. Glad I did that instead.
Luna lake is going to be quite special I think.
Did they get their screen from 1995 or is it just the brightness is set really low for the vid? Looks really washed out too.
I show the settings during the video, including full brightness. It is worth remembering that companies that are keen to save battery power don't want to waste it on a bright OLED panel.

@@KitGuruTech I saw the bit with the full brightness but it just seems a bit washed out. Is it much better in real life?
@@philipjfry628 It'll be fine indoors but I wouldn't fancy using it in sunshine
Leo
@@KitGuruTech Yeah just doesnt seem quality enough for that price point.
Looks good - nice simple design.. But those software issues are a deal-breaker for me
I think the new AMD laptop range looks better overall for most people. Interested to see what Intel do soon
Not ready yet.
So best to think of this as a modern day descent of the Acorn Archimedes A4 laptop.
Or the laptop version of any android phone.
These laptops need to be priced a fair bit less, after all there are still a lot of apps not supported and you get performance penalities for running X86 under emulation
At 600 quid it would be something to consider.
Good review leo - I am sick hearing about AI - its a lot of twaddle what I have seen
AI is mostly bollocks. Good at some stuff but gets tripped up by details every time. Think its been massively over hyped.
its not a bad laptop tbh, but I dont think qualcomm and X86 under emultation is a good idea right now. so many issues ive seen online. would be ok for lighter work loads for office stuff
Doesnt look like this is ready for mainstream.
Microsoft - absolute nightmare
This is very expensive for what it is IMO, you can get an entry level Nvidia discrete laptop at similar pricing with a lot more power. I understand this isnt necessarily the audience, but still
Those USB power output dongle's Intel had are about $120 USD
There is a basic version that sells for £30
Leo

Apple got it right but they have total control over the whole ecosystem from hardware to software.
Thanks Leo, love your wit and jokes, very subtle and go over the heads of most americans

Love Insyde's user friendly bios update program with Do not turn off your computer in red. Copyright 2000-2024!!!
that AI demo bit at the start had me laughing my head off. A ------ R ---------- M lols
Windows on ARM still has a long way to go with software support..
agreed, id definitely wait for more software to support ARM before buying anything!
Which software that you use is not supported?
The amount of bugs look nightmarish in their drivers. Will take forever to sort out. If ever.
bruh 5/10 was already too high the compatibility problem is HUGE, if you want battery and browser just get a 1/4 priced tablet + a 10$ bluetooth keyboard
Would not touch this with a barge pole
1200 pounds is considred budget nowadays? just teasing haha, great review as usual
Thanks 👍🏻
Could be a really useful laptop if you spend any time travelling away from a power socket.
There a lot of x86 emulation going on here which is a shame as native arm would give a much better result.
Should be closer to £999 to be a better buy as you are going to be beta testing a lot of this stuff as you use it for them
Anything with native ASM code is going to be awful on this thing. Which means anything computationally intensive is going to be slow as it’s going to have to emulate.
OMG that copilot AI just showed me a reason not to upgrade to win11.
Kind of depressing since NT has been functional on ARM since 2012.
Budget nowadays is 1200 squid. Good god.
For that money you can buy an apple silicon laptop.. No contest.
Its a lot of money for a laptop that cant really do any gaming.
Tell me about it! 😂
