    You should also look at latin american dragons like Quetzalcoat from Aztec mythology. It looks closer to asian dragon with its serpent like body

    Archaeologists now reckon the recurring Western story of a hero slaying a dragon or similar creature goes back as much as six or seven thousand years to the Proto-Indo-Europeans, because versions of it show up in so many descendant myths (like the Hydra in Greek mythology or the Sigurd/Siegfried story in Germanic mythology) suggesting they are all variations of the same original tale.

    The reason they are similar is because early humans lived on one single whole continent, spoke the one single language, shared the same history, built similar structures, and had similar beliefs, but after their single language was change to many and the land was separated into separate continents and island, over time their ideas began change from each other.

    Centaurs have actually sorta made their way into evolutionary biology too. Centaurism is defined as the phenomenon in which a species gives up a pair of legs and starts using them not for locomotion but for other purposes, such as manipulating the environment. Humans are a classic case of centaurism, having evolved to walk on two legs while our hands are used to manipulate the environment. Praying mantises too.

    I noticed that the western dragon is just not the same animal as the Chinese “long”. It seems back in the day it was just convenient for the western observer to draw the comparison between them (and call it a “Dragon”) because they both are mythical and both have serpentine like appearance. Awesome video 👍

    I just recently found your channel (Chinese eating etiquette), and watched your discussion of Dim Sum (Here in America "shrimp toast" is a big favorite but I love Siu Mai and cabbage or pork bao) and i am surprised to see that some of the videos are 7 or 8 years old. I didn't notice a difference now that you are "back" but you still have immaculate English enunciation and slip very naturally in to Cantonese or Mandarin. (I notice that you say "mandarIN" instead of "MANdarin" - do we say it wrong over here?) Liked and subscribed and enjoying the videos. Oh, and it is charming when the Australian accent just peeks out a bit in your English. Love it!

    the Sinetic Phoenix is the national symbol of CHU(楚), a Ancient Chinese Kingdom founded by a Chinese tribe inappropriately exprelled by the Zhou dynasty to the Yngzhe River regions, I believe the symbol was introduced to Sinitic culture after Chin Dynasty which CHU was conquered and thus its cultural asset encouperated into Imperial China

    • @masterkoi29
      @masterkoi29 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Chu state was founded by the royal clans from the Zhou dynasty. Let me tell you that the Zhou dynasty have many royal clan members. Each clan was given a land by the Zhou king which composed of the states who started the warring states

    The Chinese dragon looks reasonably like a dinosaur, the "Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus" specifically. And, I think, if we take into account the variants of legends, all over the world, about scales, crest, feathers, bat wing, aquatic habits, then the comparison with the aforementioned dinosaur is almost complete. So Chinese dragon are not the Western Dragons. They are called Nagas and they are snake like creatures that rule over water. The Buddhist classify about 16 categories of Nagas. The Royal Nagas have a wishfulling pearl or gems that grants wishes depending on the level of power of the Royal Nagas. Many are consider wealthy, the Indians have many temple dedicated to them. Some in Buddhist tradition some monks and Lamas do Naga Pujas for rain and restoring wells that have gone dry. The forbidden City has entire walls called Dragon wall with special vases where Nagas can live.

    Here is a secret, as a descendent of Zhou Dynasty (姬周) royalty, we have this tradition about how the dragon made it into Sinitic culture as a syombol of anyhitng...... according to my family tradition, the whole reason that Chinese have the concept of dragon, was becase our direct ancestors the Ji Clan whom ruled China then conquered a barbarian tribe who use dragon totem symbol and the Zhou Empror then thought that totem looks cool, so he decided to just download it into our cultue, nothing fansy lol
    and us Ji's heirs traditionally don't rever Ah-bah Hok-Hii(伏羲) and Ah-Mu Nu-Ue(女媧) to be mythological entites of have man have dragon serpant or whatever, but we revered them as the first among our forefathers of the Sinitic civiliation whose's existance is a skin wearing man and woman with great wisdom and virtue to initiate our civilization, once again nothign fansy but rven do does not deminish their greatness
    I don't Ah-bah Hok-Hii and Ah-mu Nu-Ue is less great without the mystical powers that the later constructed mythological lore attribute to them, by establish the concept of commited sexual relationship and associated meaningful courtasy to it as the foundation of the SInitic civilization is aready great enough
