    Far too expensive, when I worked as a draftsman long ago we used a close cousin to this on our drawing boards, if you have plenty of money go for it. But to me 5-7 $ would be where this should be.

    Woodpeckers stuff looks good but, in the case of the edge rule, TOO EXPENSIVE! A 600mm rule from Amazon UK is £61.50, that's 10.25p per mm. Even at half that price it's too much in my opinion.

No need for some dopey screw-on bullshit that's gonna drop on the floor and roll under the bench and you'll bang your head climbing around under there. And you know that when it hits the floor it will roll to the other side of the bench and under something that weighs 900 lbs. That's the way life is.

  • @benlucarelli

    The number 1 tool is a push stick for a table saw? I have built cabinets for 20 years and can say, maybe with some authority, that a piece of plywood cut to a rectangle with a notch cut into the long edge is better because it doesn't produce a plastic smell when you inevitably cut into it (1/8th" rips?) and can be had free in any shop. You know all the plywood scraps you keep for later and then debate whether it's environmentally safe to put in the wood stove? Those are the ones!

    I can not believe you Americans still use imperial.
    Any "precision" instrument which gives measurements in 3/16th of an inch is not precise at all. Is that 4mm or 5mm?

    • @dlwatib
      @dlwatib 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neither. It's exactly 4.7625 mm. The nice thing about fractions of an inch is that it's a base 2 system that can get as precise as you need. Furthermore, it's always easy to compute half of any sub-inch measurement (a commonly needed operation): simply double the denominator. For those who prefer to work in a decimal system, thousandths (mils) are available on pretty much any caliper.

    • @kenwaugh7
      @kenwaugh7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dlwatib The modern day imperial system is based on, and defined by, the metric system. So whether you like it or not, all true measures are only true because they are metricly true. But if you want to stay stuck in the past, along with Liberia, go right ahead.

  • @aardque
    @aardque 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Handsaw? I had to scroll up and reread the title, yes it says Top Ten Best Tools Woodworking 2019. I had to hear the carpenters before it made sense. Ya, over here in America, we don't have time to wait for life to slap us in the face. I haven't used a freaking handsaw since I cut some kindling and I'll tell you why - yes I do finish carpentry - there are so many reciprocating saws and power chisels available, in different sizes, that I do all my final detail cutting with a razor.
    I'll tell you the appeal of these handsaws. Compared to a cordless drill, they are almost free to manufacture. Combine that with a snazzy display and cool colors and you have a way to turn 5 quid, or whatever you call your currency, into a profit for a very small investment. They are like lottery tickets for people that feel productive.
