awesome!...thanks for posting this!....made a leap off this in 1984...Used my Pygmy Container with a Dragonfly 9 cell and a 26 foot Lopo Lite....flat pack with nose open...slider up....it was a real hoot!....went to Ranger Jail....but it was worth it!....EL Cap 499
The vid was actually done with 8 mm film cameras. The film was converted to digital by RB of Nevada Skydiver fame. I edited the original 10 minute footage to this version and posted it.
@MRMINGMONG No, Carl was instrumental in working out a permit system with the Park Service that allowed us to jump. For one summer the Park Service allowed 12 jumps each morning before 9 AM. I jump at about 2:30 on the vid, and was El Cap number 373. I'm sure Carl had a number less than 10.
Yes, 'regular skydive rigs' for in those days base rigs had yet to be invented, nor had personal computers, cell phones, or video camcorders! Most of the guys that jumped that day had round reserves! Those were the days!
My husband Royce Parker base jumped El Cap August 26th 1980. If anyone here knew him, he passed away last month from affects of Agent Orange from his Vietnam days. :( I would love whatever video you might have of his jump, I am putting together something for his kids who were all there to watch him come down in the field. thanks! Nanci Parker
I did a complete unintentional forward flip on my jump, 8/10/80. Rolled into a style tuck to straighten myself out, then tracked like hell. Had a perfect opening. EC 159.
