    Hi Jordan!
    When you said that your kids start sorting laundry at 3 and doing their own laundry at 8, it got me thinking: can you do a video about what chores you get your kids to do and at what ages? For instance, what kind of things do your kids do for themselves at 3 and so on.
    So many parents do everything for their kids (i.e. laundry, cleaning up their toys, and making their beds etc...) because "it's faster", but I think it's best to teach your kids to do it themselves so that they have the skills as adults (plus ain't nobody got time for that).
    I think that many parents would find it interesting just how much their children can actually do.

      I so agree with you . Also kids learn anything as long as if you have time and patience for it . For example my 3 yr old can pick up his toys, wipe up spills put his leftovers in the trash and his plate in the sink , dress himself up and put his shoes on I am so proud of him and I let him know it.

    Sock Hack- have everyone put their socks in a mesh zipper laundry bag during the week and then throw their whole bag in the washing machine/dryer. They all stay together and each person's socks stay together. You're welcome!

      She tends to buy way more clothes than I would but I like to get what options I can that can go for either a boy or a girl. Not all of there wardrobe. But I have simplified wardrobe anyway. I only need up with two kids a boy and a girl 21 months apart. I receive plenty for my girl who is 4 almost five but very little for my boy who is 3 they have a uniform for preschool that's a t shirt and I layer a long sleeve shirt underneath in the winter and pass down anything that will work with just the sleeves showing. When I would buy for my daughter I made sure to include some plain black or grey leggings or sweets simple jeggings and simpler shoes that have a more nutrual tone. Between newborn, 0 to 3 , 3 to 6 6 to 9 12 and 18 months which my kids wore by a year that is six full wardrobe changes in a year. I was not going to store two sets of really big wardrobes times 6 sizes. They absolutely needed newborn clothes but for a week two max. I had a small handful of girly clothes like 3 or 4 with in the year. Having 1 week or so of clothes depending on your wash cycle. 10 to 12 outfits when they needed changed more often. Obviously if you have back to back of the same gender that's not the same issue.

      Susana Sunshine Yeah but if you’ve ever been pregnant you know how extremely exhausting it can be. That on top of the morning sickness, which for a LOT of women is all day, and then add all the other things one must do in a day plus feeling like your body is not yours anymore makes getting all dolled up just not in the cards very often. I mean, not all pregnancies are the same and everyone’s experience is different but there are a great many women who just need to put there head back and feet up and use that time for getting some much needed rest. If you are one of those women who cruised through pregnancy without a symptom to hold you back then the rest of us are 100 percent envious.

Ever since I’ve adopted your laundry hacks....laundry is an absolute breeze. Especially since I’ve started making the kids fold their own clothes. They’re aged 10-16 so they should definitely be helping out. Thanks so much Jordan. I absolutely LOVE your videos!!!

    My Mom taught me to give the clothes a good shaking out when transferring from washer to dryer. I have always hated doing that - and now I make my kids do it. The clothes dry faster and are less wrinkled!

    For those who line dry clothes but also have a dryer this is a tip to save time: first load is a load I would put in the dryer, second load is one I would hang on the line. This is because the dryer usually takes longer than the washer. So I can wash two loads while just one of those is in the dryer. That way when the first dryer load is done, I'm putting the THIRD washer load in. Hope this makes sense. :-)

    • @Mashooqa
      @Mashooqa 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I learned that the hard way, after wasting almost an entire day on waiting for the dryer, because I washed all my other clothes first, that was going to line dry.
      I was used to using heavy industrial machines, that would dry a heavy load on cold air within 30-40minutes, but then I moved and had to re-learn how to do laundry. Now I separate everything based on weight, go with smaller batches and wash/dry them in the right order.

    My mother in law has 8 kids (2 are grown) and she asigns the kids their own personal laundry day so monday it is the 2 youngest and Tuesday the next kid etc..
    The best part of this system is that if one of the kids does not do their laundry on that day then they have to do the next siblings laundry the following day.

  • @aimeeontheharp
    @aimeeontheharp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I don't have to sort my kids' clothes anymore because I wash it all in mesh laundry bags! Each bag has a different color zipper. No missing clothes, no sorting, no matching, and I can just give them the bag and tell them to put it all away! :D I am really proud of this idea of mine!

    • @barekettz
      @barekettz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      if you use laundry bags, you lain more on the detergent to do the all job.
      In order for the fabric to come out clean, it needs its ability to wobble against the drum.

    When it comes to laundry with 3 girls (2,3, and 4), myself, and my husband's clothes, my hacks for a stress-free laundry experience are:
    -Everyone has their own basket and mesh bag to use.
    -Since there are 5 of us, we do laundry during the week so the weekends are family time. With that schedule, my oldest helps do ALL of her laundry on Monday (Wash, dry, fold, hang up, etc). Tuesday is for my Middle daughter. Wednesday is my youngest daughter. Thursday is for my Husband's clothes. Friday are my clothes. I have it that way so we don't spend an entire day washing everyone's clothes when we can focus on one at a time, it means more family time.

    NO ONE is going to sort by texture thats just crazy first of all I would need a whole education on texture sorting LOL!! Maybe jeans YES and obviously towels and bedding, darks, lights, but texture thats so confusing JUST SAYING!! (sheets, comforters etc.)
    THE BEST WAY TO SORT is keep each persons clothes in there own load never mix laundry it makes for more sorting after they been washed and dried. I do my sons clothes on one day, my daughters on another day and separate days for me and my husband. ***Having clothes be right side out is good I always make sure my childrens clothes go into the hamper right side out to begin with HINT HINT!!!
    ***I NEVER do ALL the laundry in the whole house in one day that would take forever!!! and leave no time for anything else like cooking watching your young children or especially a nursing mom!!!
    ***Also use olive oil type bottles with a spout it eliminates a cup to wash in your load and fish out later and no pouring into a cup no spills etc.
    There are some GREAT hacks in this video, and in the comments I have 2 children so its hones5not to difficult to keep track of there laundry!

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like your tip on the olive oil tip thing.. I'm currently re-using an old Starbucks water bottle, but it's been annoying as it has 2 openings, so when you tighten it, there's another section 2/3 of the way up where it starts to unscrew and starts to leak if you've filled it up to the top. I mean, come on Starbucks!!! Apparently all their water bottles and flasks are like this!

    We avoid sorting different family members clothes altogether by putting a laundry basket in each person's closet (my husband keeps his by his dresser, as I take the closet).
    Good rule of thumb is by the time the basket is full, it's time to wash.
    We keep a basket in the laundry room for whites. They get done on the weekend. Towels all go in one hamper, and we wash that twice a week

    • @lindenpeters2601
      @lindenpeters2601 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Me, too. No point in sorting everything twice. The loads I do are: my and hubs' lights, our darks, first child's clothes, second child's clothes, sheets, towels. I wash everything on cool and gentle to make clothes last longer, unless something is really dirty.

    My kids actually had the idea that they help w all the clothes. Instead of each child doing their own laundry they are assigned a day to do a couple of loads start to finish. The only thing they don’t have to do is moms bras and underwear.
    It allows them the ability to jump in to the laundry process. And if they didn’t do laundry on their day they just jump in on the next day. Love it!!!!

    OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover should not be mixed with Chlorine bleach or household chemicals other than in the wash with your regular laundry detergent. To fully optimize the stain removing abilities of OxiClean™ we recommend adding to the wash water in the drum not the bleach dispenser.

    Hello Jordon and freebies.
    Very strange I was doing my washing (laundry) earlier this evening and I was adding white vinegar to my loads. Its brilliant for removing odours from clothing such as gym clothes. My laundry day is typically sunday the day I change my bedding. I am a widow with no children so live alone. Although I have a dryer it is for emergency only. I do my best to air dry everything if I can. I do have a slight hack tho. When purchasing washing machines / dishwashers I try my best to get ones with timer delays. This way I delay the program to start part way through the night as the usage of electricity is lower. Then when I get up put it on a spin cycle then hang it out. I just have to remember to allow enough time in the morning before I go to work to hang the washing out or the whole thing has been a waste of effort / time and money as I'll have to wash it again. I always do an extra spin to get rid of extra water before I have it out. It's amazing how much it helps.
    Just wondering if anyone else regularly uses any washing machine / dishwasher cleaners to remove line scale etc. I know there is also white vinegar hacks options too. Myself and my mum use the 1st of every month to run our machines on a clean cycle with these products.
    Also Jordon I would love to have your tips for keeping whites white.
    P.s. you are looking amazing! Love to you and your amazing family ❤

Cut in half some dish sponges(without the scrubber part) or rags and keep them in the jar. I'll throw one...or a few depending on size of load in the dryer and there ya go. No static, extra soft, and extra smell good!!

      @@mj482 I have had that problem before. I now only use either downy or gain softener, only squeeze out a tad bit just so it's not dripping and also use a cooler dry. The hotter the air in the dryer, the more it seems to take out the smell and like shes said it's better for the clothes anyway. I will only use the hottest dry setting on towels maybe every 3 washed and then bc the smell is so diminished, I have a spray bottle I keep where I put about a half cup of downy unstoppable and fill with hot water. Shake till dissolves and voila a DIY febreeze. Anyway I'll spray things that I want to keep smell

    Hi Jordan! Love your videos! We are a family of 6, 4 kids. Each person has their own basket and each person (mostly) does their own laundry. This eliminates the need for sorting each person’s stuff and the teens fighting over who took whose shirt. I’ve also started to eliminate all the pastel and cute towels so each person has only 1-2 towels (mostly navy) and get washed with the jeans and stretch pants. I have a few crisp towels that come out for guests that I keep in the back of the closet and ONLY I wash them (like the bright whites in bleach etc) and we’ve also adopted the all white sock method as well. Most times TWO loads of WASH can fit in ONE LOAD of dryer. Hope it helps! -Michelle (special needs #22q mom)

    I only have two kids, 11 and 14. We’re at the point that the only thing I have to do is remind them to put their washing on/hang out/bring in. So good. I do wash theirs during the week to keep them in uniforms, but they’re responsible for their other clothes on the weekend.
    -We rarely use the dryer, in fact it’s disconnected for summer.
    -Things like school uniforms that crease easily, get hung on coat hangers straight from the machine. They dry almost crease free and take mere seconds to put away. I actually hang all of my shirts and dresses like this to save time. If it’s windy, I add a peg to the coat hanger to keep it on the line.
    - the dot system is coming in handy lately, since both my girls have very similar socks/bras/underwear (we don’t pass these down but it helps us all immensely when sorting). I miss the cute patterns 😂
    - I’ve printed and framed a quick cheat sheet for washing settings so my girls don’t have to keep asking me (seriously, it’s the same setting most times, how can you keep forgetting?)

I then forget about that load for three days and even more laundry piles up in the basket. I repeat the process, only to finally open up the machine to be slapped in the face with the mouldy stench of the first load. I cry again. Redo the first load and force myself to do the second. Then I forget both loads in the dryer.

    Here are my hacks: I use hand washing powder in my washing machine. Half the price and you use half as much as you would normally because it foams much beter, it also cleans more efficiently.
    I also do two loads a day, one is dirty clothes and the other is a load of bedding or curtains. Bedding and curtains aren't a hassle for folding so it doesn't take up time you would be for folding clothes.
    Though it helps that we almost only wear cotton, very warm climate where we live. And I refuse to buy anything white, specifically because I dont want to sort and I dont have to worry about stains as much. But if something is stained I just soak it the night before and maybe give it a few scrubs with a brush on the stain itself and dump it in the soak bucket.

    Also a no! Wash most of your clothes inside out! Especially fleece and brushed fuzzy fabrics. Expensive jeggings and shirts with printed designs. If you wash them inside out they will collect less lint on them, the lint that will collect will be on the inside and won't be visible when you wear them. Especially if you're not sorting colors as strictly like she says. (Although I still do color sort strictly because I hate when I have a black pair of leggings with light colored pilling on them from the other clothing in the load.) But additionally, the shirts with prints can often crumble, melt or shred in the dryer when rubbing against all the different other fabrics. Drying them inside out helps the print last longer. So at least flip them before you dry them. Really I suppose you could wash everything rightside out and flip it for the dryer but who's gonna put that extra effort in.
    I agree with mostly everything else though 👍

    We wash either by 40°C or 60°C
    (sorry, don't know the US units.. 40° is like fever, 60° a bit more than half way to boiling (100°C)).
    But since the washing mashine *rinses* thoroughly with cold water first (and also you can use *stain spray* in addition, if you want/need), no stains get "burned in"..
    Therefor the textiles that need extra *hygiene* get really clean (hygienic).

    Maybe that's why you don't need to sort by colour. In cold water colours don't bleed out that easily.
    I seperate by "colour-types": red, blue, black, white. Red contains orange pink and yellow aswell, blue contains green, purple etc..
    All four by temperature then, 40° or 60° (extra hygiene needed or not).
    Jeans (and thick fabric like that) go seperate, same as wool. It goes by 30° only..

    Na-na-na-na-NOOOOOO ONE has ever made laundry for a family seem glamorous. Then there was you. Mwaaaaaah on the cheek. Thank you.
    White socks is also our policy. For our son no folding only hanging; cuts the job in half or maybe less. Boy goes to school not wrinkled too. I don’t fold anything of mine that doesn’t go on a hanger. My hubby likes to fold his clothes and watch his shows.

    Just a note for people, when choosing you laundry detergent check with the brand manufacturer, of your washing machine because they will have a brand, of laundry detergent that works the best with their machines that the make. It’s the same with dishwashers. ❤️🇬🇧

    I wash my clothes according to room of the house. When it's done drying, I hand it to the person who occupys the room and they put it away. Oh and each room has there own hamper and is expected to load the washer and dryer.

      I do something similar. We have 3 kids that are 6, 10 and 15. I wash each child's hamper separately (my 15 year old does his own), pulling out delicates, and then when they are done in the dryer give it to that child and they are responsible for putting it away. Then I keep towels separate and mine and my husband's together. This has helped with not having to sort which person belongs to each clean item and really stopped the headache of trying to match socks with a mountain of socks coming out of the dryer.

    My brother in law repairs washing machines. He says don’t ever put oxy clean in your machine. It works so good it strips the oils off of the parts machine (especially true of old machines!) and you will shorten the life of the machine or spend $$$ fixing it. The remedy is to soak in oxyclean separately and rinse them clean as usual.
