You should make an app for the block schedule system! Hire a software engineer to program it where the customizable block templates can sync with set alarms. I’d be interested!

Jordan Page, FunCheapOrFree it would be cost effective if you made it a competition through your local college. The prize for the best app design could be a 1000.00 scholarship split between two semesters. I work in a college as an advisor and send these types of competitions to my students all the time.

I have my block schedule set up right in google calendar. You can color code everything, you can leave notes and you can use emojis in the titles so if I complete everything in block I can put a check mark at the start of the title and get the satisfaction of checking it off my list. I used to waist so much time using traditional planners but switched to google cal after watching Jordan’s videos and it have been life changing!

When I’m feeling unproductive I play the “commercial game”
I lazily watch my show until the commercials come on and I jump up and get as much done as I can for those few minutes! Hubby calls me once the show is back on and pauses it if I’m finishing up a task.
I work full time so some nights I’m so exhausted that this is how I trick myself into accomplishing things

    1. Use a paper “To do list” for tasks and google/online calendar for events
    2. Use “The Block System” to plan the day
    3. Use “The Microwave System” and do whatever you can in less than 5 minutes
Thank you Jordan! I used the block system in high school and college but I think it will be just as helpful incorporated into my home life as a mom. Thumbs up to you!

my grandma did a thing where she was swearing on the habit of no idle hands. she said if im going somewhere take something with me. like if you go outside take out the trash on your way. if you are watching tv do embroidery (we hungarians do a lot of embroidery) or if you are drinking /eating in other parts of the house than your kitchen on your way to the kitchen pick up a mug or bottle or plate or empty bag and throw it out / into the sink. if your family leaves clothes around just pick them up and put them in place as you are going ( the only setback for me that sometimes i forget why i went into the room itself for...)

I find that I get the best "work/life" balance when I use a planner. I make sure I schedule "me time" into my schedule so I make sure i get it done!
Also whenever I get a new task, or I remember something I had forgotten to do, I hurry up and "catch" it by adding it as an event in my calendar for that evening. Then every evening I make sure I go through the things I "caught" that day and schedule it in for whenever I am able to do it.
That makes me so much more productive.

holy crap your block system just blew my mind and i am so implementing it at the office. block for placing orders, block for designing day-to-day flyers, block for whatever big project is on my plate. i've been focusing on the big projects and stopping repeatedly for the random daily things when they pop up and it's great for the daily things but making the big project take so much longer!!

I like using small blocks of time to get things done. Today when I was putting my clothes away into my closet, that had dried on hangers in the laundry area, I switched the way I had them organized in the closet and it only took me 5 minutes. I can only work in about 15 minute segments because if I stand longer than that my back hurts. So I work for 15 minutes and then sit down. The next time I get up I do something else for 15 minutes. Eventually things get done.

I love your "block schedule"; It is very flexible, including the budget portion you did on another video. The concepts are very adaptable for ANYONE. I work nights for a hospital(No, not a nurse or doctor-- I am an accountant), So I arranged it to were I have basically your schedule but flipped. It's not really overwhelming... it's more so being blind to the answer-- everyone is wearing those rose-glasses!

Hi Jordan!!! This is a great video. I am a stay at home mom to one preteen child so I am home alone all day, but I feel like I am constantly disappointed in myself because I didn’t get all of my to do’s done. I am definitely going to try this block system!!!
I love what you said about your garage. I felt the need to comment because I apply the “always leave a place better than you found it” principle. To me, that means when I’m walking to another room, I grab something that goes in that room and put it away, or I pick up one thing every time I get up off of the couch, or make sure I put away the toothpaste when I’m done brushing my teeth, etc... This helps me keep my house picked up or at least makes me feel like I’m accomplishing a little bit here and there.
Love your channel and love you, you are such a breath of fresh air!

Love this! You truly give the best advice, I’ve always felt like I needed long chunks of time to get things done, but no not true as you say. Another related productivity tip I read recently is, if you see a task around the home that takes 60 seconds or less to complete, do it then and there! For at work or bigger tasks, if it comes across your desk and takes 2 min or less respond/ tackle the task then and there. I think we all need to get off social media and use those 60-90 second windows to our advantage 💕🌻🌷🌺

Ok, I've watched this video maybe 4 times and I'm not sure why but it JUST NOW CLICKED that I need to implement your garage cleaning suggestion. You're so right. I keep saying I need a weekend to clean the garage, knowing dang well If I have a free weekend ---I'm not cleaning SH*T! But, if I just pick up and do a little bit each day, it will get done sooner than me trying to find that one weekend (that doesn't exist). Also, as you were talking I saw my son on his tablet watching kids playing video games on TH-cam *wonder where he got that TH-cam binge-watching from?* HA - I told him to pick 10 toys to donate and put them in the donation bin for $1. He damn near knocked me over to get out there. Thanks for the tips.

Amazing tips! Especially love the block system! I think having longer block lengths (like 3-hour chunks) is key when having an infant/younger kids you're taking care of so you can pause to do necessary diaper changes and things while still working on the tasks you want to do in that block. Thank you so much for sharing!!

(Carpool in calendar) "...I have forgotten to pick up kids before." Lol Jordan, thanks for the brutal honesty and making me realize, despite what my boss may think, it's not just me that's not perfect. We're all human here! Love this!

Another helpful thing that can be added to the to do binder is making a done list. Others have done this and I have done it many times over the last few years and it immensly helps me track everything I have gotten done and helps me feel WAY more productive!

The microwave principal has been great for me. Trying it has made me realize I can do little things that will add up to bigger things in just a short amount of time. Same with having my older children help me. They often want to help and I need to just let them!

Okay! I'm trying it! I'm a SAHM with really "fun" MS and we home school our awesome kiddos, and I think this would be really awesome for me/us! My husband works second shift and it really messes me up, but this might be a way to figure out how to overcome it. Everyone just needs to stop getting sick now. SO over this season. Thanks for the tips! I'll be watching some more videos on it....right after I get the table cleaned off and reading done! LoL

The freezer bun tip for school sandwich or the snack boxes are helpful.

My husband and i have a shared google calendar which eliminates the need to invite each other all the time, it's just there for both of us to see if it's added to that calendar. i have my own personal calendar which i add things he doesn't need to see, and i also have a shared kids calendar with my ex so we can keep track of their activities / moving around between the two houses etc. just make sure you load each thing into the correct calendar (!) and you're good to go. it's a godsend!

I love the block schedule because you feel less pressured. I have used it for my off days. It goes like this 7-9 morning block, 9-12 block - this is when I start getting priorities done, 12-3 block which includes lunch, 3-5 block, 5-8 family time block which includes dinner, 8-12 block which includes evening cleaning, personal time, and time with my husband. Once it become a routine to work in blocks it becomes second nature.

Awesome tips-block scheduling rocks and while water for tea heats up I finish getting ready for work oh and I’ve started my cold car so when I’m dressed I can just leave the house: so much more sleep time
