Can you connect multiple sets and run them individually or will the always run at the same time

With the standard Hornby trainset (non-DCC), if you put multiple locos on the same track, they will always run at the same time. If you want to build out the full Hornby trakmat, where you have an inside and an outside loop of track, then you can use a second power controller wired to the inside track. This will allow you to power each loop independently. You can use the points (set correctly) or for added protection use insulating fishplates on the points which connect the two loops together. If you want to move a train from one loop to the other, make ABSOLUTELY sure they are set to go in the same direction, and roughly the same speed, then switch the points. If you make a mistake and have them switched the wrong way, you will basically be connecting the positive to the negative outputs of the two controllers, and that is a recipe for a bad day! If you are just starting out with just a few locos, but plan just to run the a couple of sets tied together, you might be better off looking at something like HM7000 from Hornby or using DCC.
