I've had both the sedan (G37) and wagon (QX50) in this platform and really appreciate the steering, rwd biased handling and balance and the steering feel. James doesn't mention the reliability of this platform. This is a car that, aside from regular maintenance, may not see the dealer for over 50,000 miles. They are extremely robust. There aren't many competitors with that feature.

I was so in love with the G37/G370 coupe when they came out. In fact, it was the preceding G35 Coupe that caught my eye. Loved the not too shouty or obvious styling and the V6 rwd spec. They were and still are so rare in the UK. It’s up their on my list of JDM models I’d love to import with things like the 90’s Mazda/Eunos Cosmo coupe, 2000 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 saloon, Eclipse GSX (2G) and 90’s Lexus SC400 coupe. If you can your hands on any of those, that would make my day.

Great Cars to Modify, if you're into that sort of thing, which I am. I have owned a 2007 370gt SP, which has the earlier 5 speed auto trans, for around Ten Years now. Absolutely love it. I have Twin Turbo'd Mine & it puts down slightly more than 500hp at the wheels from the stock unopened engine. On a safe low boost (9.5psi) Tune. The Trans only has a Valve body shift kit & some tuning via the ecu, which allows you to fine tune the shift characteristics. Very Capable & Comfortable Vehicle at this power level.

My brand association with Nissan is strange. I'm from the states. I remember back in the 90's and early 2000's I would see so many actually awesome Nissans driving around often...240sx, fairlady z's, 300zx, 350/370z and my dad has had some sort of manual Infiniti sedan my whole life, starting with the 1st generation q45. But then something changed with their corporate strategy here and now when I think Nissan, I think clapped-out Altimas and Maximas driven by people who can't drive and don't care about their car or anyone else's because they got it from a no money down no credit necessary dealership

I have a 2007 370gt sp coupe with a five speed auto and like it a lot. I changed the nav unit to UK spec while maintaining the factory look. The engine in mine goes round to the redline very well and makes a good noise while doing it. The gearbox does not shift quickly but does hold the gears well in sport and manual modes and the paddles feel great. The four wheel steering takes some getting used to. Plenty of room in the back seat for a recaro child seat. The way that the instrument cluster moves with the electric steering wheel adjustment is also good.
It is a solid car that feels well built, the interior materials and design are good but not up to the normal German standard from the same year. It seems wide on UK B roads and at 1700kg is quite heavy. It fills the relaxed GT role very well but is not a sports car.

ive owned an infiniti g35 in the past and currently own a g37 coupe. it isnt a bad car, but it leaves a lot to be desired. the vq37vhr is a great engine (if your gallery gaskets dont blow) but in my experience thats really all its got going for it. the automatics shifts are terribly slow, and the manuals have horrible clutches that love to stop working unless you completely swap it out for an aftermarket one. not only that but they are super heavy and FEEL super heavy. the interior quality isnt bad, but it hasnt aged well either. and then theres the sensors that LOVE to stop working for no reason every other month. to get one of these to feel like a proper sports car, you have to throw at least the whole cars value into it and at that point it would be better to just outright buy a completely different car. aside from some of the issues i mentioned earlier, they are generally pretty reliable cars. mine has yet to leave me stranded, but i have had some troubles with it on the road. and i have to say, its a beautiful car and has lots of aftermarket support inside and out. but in all honesty if i had the opportunity to buy another one of these, i dont think i would. there is just SO much better out there for the money.

Fun cars to drive. I had a 6 speed 2003 G35 for years. They handle better than you think. I met a gentlemen at a Z Meet years ago who was the guest speaker and was responsible for convincing Nissan to bring the 350Z to the USA. He told me generally speaking, the G35 was just a tad bit faster than the 350Z around a road course (something I had read before meeting him) AND that the Infiniti G35 (Nissan 350GT) was indeed first thought up as the 2+2 version of the 350Z. They are both on the same chassis with the G being modified to lengthen it. Of course because of money, Nissan placed the G coupe series in the Skyline series so they could import as the Infiniti luxury brand.

I especially like the Skyline GTR R34 version but I can’t have one because there are not yet legal to be imported into America and I can’t afford it. 😂

You might want to disable/bypass the active pedestrian protect (bonnet popper) system. It is way more sensitive than you expected. The bonnet actuators are like airbags so they can't be reset and reused. The control module also needed to be replaced unless you disassemble the case and reprogram the chip. If you don't do all these after the system deployed the bonnet popper warning light will be always on.

There is a 6 speed manual model; not sure why one would go through the trouble to import an automatic. I think a lot of people leased these in Japan when they were new because they're really common to find used. The engine has always turned me off of buying one because of tax (probably over ¥100,000 per year.) I also think the HR VQ engines sound kind of unpleasant, like it's over-stressed, somehow? I love RBs, and think the VG, VR and first gen VQ sound pretty good, but the HR just constantly sounds like it's within an inch of its life all the time.

Tax is less than 100k for these (about 70k now when they are over 13 years old). Honestly, choosing car based on the tax is quite pointless (I see Japanese do this all the time). Would be better if they were fitted under 3500cc though for sure.

No difference my man just different brands. Their essentially the same car just named differently depending where you buy it in the world (buy in US it's g37 , buy in uk or Japan it's a skyline)

  • @justinclark5078
    @justinclark5078 2 ปีที่แล้ว

To clarify - did the UK get the Infiniti G37 coupe like we did in the USA? It seems there is no difference in the two models other than branding.
A few years ago, right after the replacement model Q50 came out here in the US, you were able to pick up off-lease G37s for well less than $20k. I looked at a couple and ultimately ended up going with a BMW, but the exhaust note is really nice on the G37.

Infiniti was released circa 2012 in TINY numbers, including this car badged as a G37. I have never seen one on UK roads as an Infiniti. Only ever seen 1 or 2 4X4s and the Q30 hatch. So rare. Seem to have disappeared now too.

I'm not sure if I understood correctly! Doesn't the UK get Infiniti? If so, why would the average driver go through the the hassle of importing one from Japan? 🤔
In the US, we got the Infiniti G37, cupé and sedan.
Finding one of those in a 6sp manual is like hitting the jackpot. If an owner decides to sell one, they would charge a hefty premium over an Automatic version.

They are really pretty great cars but I would pass on a 370GT and instead get a manual 370z, MUCH better car. Why not just get an east coast USDM G37? It'll be far cheaper to import I'd imagine
