  • I'm re-building my two personal PCs, and it's going to be a multi-part process...
    ⇨ Sponsor: MSI Vigor GK50 | Buy: bit.ly/PH-GK50 | info: bit.ly/MSIGK50
    Today, I'm starting by building the fastest PC I can as a main editing rig, with a Threadripper 3970X and an RTX 3090. Things did not go smoothly though...
    Edit: many thanks to everyone who pointed out my other big fail in this video -- the fan bracket that would have blocked the HDD cages on the Corsair 5000X is removable, which is shown in multiple reviews. The problems with this build were TOTALLY my fault. I'll discuss in the next video on my personal builds!

      @iamadedgi5541 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That's funny to hear. My first build I just did used the 5000D case and I had it all together in around 3 hours. Although I did research extensively for the compatibility of every part to work as a whole. I guess it worked.

      Oh the feels. On my 3rd build in the last year and although with a lil research all problems get solved...there is always a prob or 2 lmao

    • @carpey750
      @carpey750 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The first build is usually the easiest BECAUSE you do all the research. After that, you get distracted and have time constraints. You don't do the research and start scrapping together parts that you have to "finish out the build". It's the "using what you have" that leads to the problems. 20 years of building computers and I have lots of spare parts but never the part that I need.

    I loved this video....it's "real" (I mean, you have a 3090 while I'm rocking my 356mb amd), it's down to earth like real pc building is, with obstacles and issues, the aio is a great example of something that can and will happen to anyone and in the middle of the build you have to adapt.
    Last year I built a pc to donate to a friend (got a sweet deal on a quadro and later my 1080 went caput. Anyway...) And I had fitting issues with the cooler, it wasy first mini it's built and in the end had to improvise with zip ties to fit a second fan and get a push and pull to keep the 2700x cool.
    Awesome video !

    "Having an add-on PCI-e drive like this in one of the lower it really helps fill the build up and make it look like there's not just empty space there."
    Me with my empty PCI-e slots from no GPU: "Am I a joke to you?"

    Last year I bought a white Corsair 780T, dismantled it and sprayed all of the black metal chassis white. Its smaller than the 1000D, is easier to carry and it has lots of room and plenty of front panel drive bays. It is, in my opinion anyway, one of the most versatile cases still available if you are building a Threadripper system (which I hope to do one day!).

    Loved the Riptide build series. Shame it didn’t quite function for you. Looking forward to more in this new series. That aio cooler seems to cause lots of frustration.

    Good job Paul. I feel your frustration.
    A gigantic case like that really should be able to accommodate a couple of hard drives and a big power supply.
    Is there no way to attach them to the back panel where those three SSD mounts are?
    Or maybe a way to swivel the drive cage 90 degrees, so they would slide in towards the front of the case? Not sure if that would give enough room, but it might.

    I was thinking of getting the Corsair 5000X as well. If you want a case recommendation may I point you to the Phanteks Eclipse P500A (PH-EC500ATG_DBK01) high Airflow Full-Metal mesh Design? Steve Burke has recommended it for noise normalized thermals and the case is aesthetically pleasing. The modular design should make it easier to tailor the case configuration to your specific use case. If you do go with it, I would buy/use three more case fans with the case for the level of hardware you're planning to use.

    First of all, great channel. I appreciate your time and knowledge and enjoy watching your videos. I'm needing to build a new PC soon. I'm a professional photographer, not a gamer and shoot medium format and shoot a ton each week, so need the best set up for Photoshop as that's open all day every day. Built my last PC last year and used a AMD Ryzen 9 3950X w 128Gig of RAM. It still struggles a bit, so want my next build to be more set up for Photoshop. Thinking I definitely want 256RAM this time, but want to do this one right and not have any regrets when I get done. Anything you can recommend on the best CPU as of July 2021? AMD Thread ripper?, Intel?

    Really happy you went with a cooler with an appropriate cold plate size :D (also not an AIO, I've had several leak or had pumps die). I think a black fan in the back behind the CPU cooler would fit in nicely as the motherboard and cooler is black too.

    Some white sleeve cables and adding that cover back to hide the front panel and fan cables would sure improve this build a lot.
    Also adding another fan in the back to complete the look.

    Yesterday my ryzen 7 3800x was running hot like almost 80 degrees while playing some games, I just built my pc 2 months ago so took off the cpu amd wraith cooler cleaned the old thermal paste off and reapplied more thermal paste cuz the first time I did it I did a small pea size and don't think it was enough, so applied a bigger pea sized and now it dropped 10-15 degrees feels so much better now not having to worry about temps while gaming.

    The white panel that sits behind the motherboard has screw mounts for 3.5" drives. Where the mounts for the fan controllers are. I just got the 5000d Airflow and I used 3 3.5s and 3 2.5s and two m.2 on the mb itself. It took me a few hours to get that set up. And I also tried to remove the side panel that the fans screw into, even after removing the 3 screws on the left hand side (towards the front of the case) I could not figure out how to remove it without using an insane amount of force, so I did not remove it. Hopefully that helps.
