- Here's a scrapping video that actually shows a very healthy hourly rate if you can find some dead spilt systems to scrap out!! Warning - I start out a little grumpy about our split system that died just after the warranty ran out!!

I've taken to wearing thin (cheap) gardening gloves while I scrap, since I found I was cutting myself all the time. As I get older my skin gets thinner and easier to break. I winced while I watched you take apart the air conditioner, knowing I would have cut myself many times over :)
Yep fair point Dave - I do have some days where the hands suffer a bit, but generally not too bad.
That would have made an awesome Pc Tower. Especially with that giant fan to keep it cool 😬

Thank you for the great video, Mate! The technician just confirmed my barely 3-year-old Daikin Inverter 1.5 HP, in my wife's room, had developed a tiny leak at the condenser coil and nothing can be done about it! I have a 1 HP 20-year-old National (Japan-made) in my room, that is still running cool, just having to change the compressor capacitor a couple of times! They don't make Aicons like they used to! Now after watching your channel, I may be able to get some bucks back from my local recycler! If you just give them the whole unit, they may pay USD 2 for it! Feeling so heartbroken after spending about RM1800 (USD 400) on the Daikan! Maha from Malaysia. :(
It is depressing to have something breakdown so soon after spending decent money! I feel your pain! Hope you can get some money back from the scrap! 👍
You definitely got some great stuff out of that unit and it showed at the end. Sorry about it being the unit at your house. I just did a video the other day on processing a ACR without a sawzall. I'm going to have to order me a set of those snips you were using for the copper tubing. Definitely looked alot easier than using side cutters. Great video!!!

At least it gives some sense of reimbursement if you can scrap an owned item, Chris. No, I have not seen aluminium general-purpose wiring either; always copper. Sign of things to come perhaps. Keep up the good work!

I feel for ya..ours went at the start of the year. Daiken..7yo. Our guy recommended the Mitsubishi Industrial so I guess we wait and see..The fan went and takes out the board in the process. Board is apparently worth more than the fan. Really disappointed they cant be repaired, unlike my old HVAC system on the factory 1988 mod and still pumpin
There's something fundamentally wrong with the whole aircon situation these days - there is no reason why they cannot be repaired cheaply and easily but it seems the companies would rather keep selling new units! ☹
I had to remplace my unit after less than two years and it’s faulty again….good to know you can get some scrap value because it’s not a cheap repair….
They seem to be very unreliable appliances Retif which is not only disappointing due to how much we pay to have them, but also they generate so much waste!
Electrician down their end of my street. He has a caged trailer on the road but any aircons, water heater I even got large water pump the other day off his driveway. I've never taken a water heater I've had heard some of them are very good and others are crap. Scrap yard just takes the air con complete can't remember last time I got, but it was no where near 150 bucks. My local yard pays $3.20 for insulated wire. What the good part is you can leave the plugs on and they take Christmas lights. Processing so much easier. I went to another yard and they between one dollar and four dollars per kilo for different grades I asked them what the different grades were and they said two difficult to explain. But they weren't willing to walk out the air conditioning office to show me the different grades. But I do take my batteries there because they pay 64 cents a kilo instead of 32 cents at my local yard. I don't bother with scrap metal at seven cents a kilo it's a joke. Some yards won't pay u, unless you bring commercial quantities and then they're paying your 10 cents a kilo. Cheers Graham
Thanks for all that Graham - yep it pays to shop around with yard prices for different things, especially if the yards are reasonably local. I tend to take all mine to the one spot who are pretty good across the board as I have a long drive! Your shred price is awful though! It's currently about 35 cents down here!

Hope this isn't a common problem as my in-laws had a Mitsubishi unit installed a couple of years ago. US Midwest - very cold winters and hot summers...I will definitely be checking if it's a 'Heavy Industries' or 'Electric' next time I'm over there! Cheers Chris.

As a service tech id love to know what the fault code was.
Compressors these days are pretty bullet proof but not unheard of for them to fail after acouple years.
I'm not sure what the fault code was - there was a sequence of long flashes and some short ones I think. I probably should have recorded it!
Good teardown, but disappointing the machine failed.
Unless I'm mistaken, that was a dog toenail clipper you were using to cut ✂️ through the copper pipes.

Haha, slightly bigger than toenail clippers! They are sold as electrician cable shears and do an excellent job on copper pipes as you saw. Coco would happily share anyways! 😊👍

I’m with ya about talking bad about these companies but it’s hard they make such junk .. we have all Samsung appliances in our home and I dislike everyone of them they run like junk I’ll take a fridge from 1950 before these junk boxes .. and I know what you mean about the “it all adds up “ I find myself saying it 🤣.. great scrap out brother 👊🏻

Google tells me this, which confirms what the aircon service man said - Both MHI and ME are completely separate companies with different products, policies and services. Furthermore, they are direct competitors of each other as they both make air conditioning units targeting the same market, with similar price points with almost identical features.
@@TheUltimateRecycler I just think its crazy that A/Cs are not govt. mandated to be built to last for at leas 15 or 20 years considering how much pollution is created in its manufacturing and usage, especially the refrigerant which all will ultimately be released into the atmosphere
