  • It's time to put the Trangia Mini to the test and make my favourite outdoor brunch again. I keep fidling with diluting the methylated spirit and the simmer ring to get the perfect flame control.
    Recipe, 2 servings
    1 cup flour
    1 cup milk
    2 tablespoons sugar
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    ¼ teaspoon salt
    1 egg
    Butter for the pan

    Congratulations on receiving a payment from TH-cam! I am very happy about your success. Your "good enough" is alright by me. Your laid-back, no-nonsense style is what keeps me interested in what you might do next. Show us your mistakes and triumphs. They reflect the genuineness we look forward to. Perhaps someday you could talk your wife into sharing some outdoor enjoyment with you. Personally I think that would be fun and interesting. Great job as usual. God bless brother.

      Thank you so much! For the moment my wife is my largest supporter and harshest critic. I have tried to combine our outings with videomaking but I fall short on multitasking so neither my wife nor the filming gets the attention they deserve, but who knows what the future brings. Cheers!

    I’m impressed with the pancakes. I mostly use cast iron when doing pancakes on electric stove. A thin skillet and open flame is a challenge 👍

    • @RedswedeOutdoors
      @RedswedeOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cast iron is also my favourite choice, both home and outdoors, but the NS pan worked well enough. Just the bacon that left some residue in the pan.

    15:14 i think I've watched this particular video 3 times, yet only now feel i should let you know... i truly love your videos. I've purchased many trangia items after watching your cooking videos. You seem a truly nice guy and you inspire we novice outdoor chefs. I'm planning my own videos and reviews, as well as shared successes and failures upon your examples. Thank you for your efforts and your sharing.

      Thank you very much Bob! If I can be an inspiration both for getting outdoors and to cook outdoors then I'm meeting my goals. Cool that you're planning your own videos, please drop a note when you release one and don't repeat my mistake by overthinking it. It hasn't been my best choice... Cheers!

    Using the Trangia Mini is for me, always a good watch 😊.
    Pancakes and Bacon .. yummy. A dribble of honey / golden syrup over the bacon goes down well too.
    Thanks for sharing .. I have a Trangia Mini Brunch scheduled for later this morning .. after the Mutt 💕 has had her morning stroll.

      @@RedswedeOutdoors 👍.
      The usual .. Oats, with variations (I'm a creature of habit). Other can include, but not be restricted to, Apple, Plums, Mandarins .. Fruit 😏, Nut Mixes, Dried Fruit, Horlicks, Milo, Chopped up Mars Bars, Yogurt, etc, etc .. dictated solely by one's imagination and level of decadence 😁.
      Today's version .. Rolled Oats .. Salt .. Cinnamon .. Cayenne Pepper .. Powdered Milk .. Coco Powder .. Peanut Butter .. Oven Dehydrated Banana .. Honey .. Corn Flakes .. a 300ml Thermos Flask of (what was earlier) boiling water, kept in an insulating sleeve. Coffee.
      How? At home, fill the Thermos, chuck the Oats, Salt, Cinnamon, Cayenne Pepper, Powdered Milk, Coco Powder and Dehydrated Banana into two zip-loc plastic bags .. one inside the other (I take them home afterwards and re-use them .. they survive surprisingly many 'cycles'). The Honey and Peanut Butter has been mixed beforehand, put into a Tupperware container and into the freezer. Corn Flakes into a re-useable container. The Corn Flakes I use to 'thicken' the end product as preferred. Instant Coffee (two heaped T-Spoons and a pinch of Salt into a mini zip-loc bag (re-usable) .. I also do 'cowboy' coffee, but this requires a slightly different setup). I take my coffee sans milk or sugar.
      In the Field / Wherever ..
      Dump the Dry Mix into the Trangia Pot. Add the Hot Water from the Thermos (300ml). Mix thoroughly and set aside to allow the Oats to soften and get to know the other ingredients more intimately.
      Refill the Thermos and then pour that into the larger of my two accompanying 'Evernew' Camping Bowls. 300ml water is a good 'starter' for the Oats and also just the right amount for my insulated (vacuum) SS mug with drinking lid and folding handles. Bring to the boil on high Trangia heat and then transfer to the Thermos Flask, Flask into the Insulated Sleeve and depending on the ambient temperature, set aside or wrapped in something more insulating and into the pack to stay hot.
      Put Simmer Ring on, in the fully open position and then the Oats back onto the flame. Bring up to the boil, stirring continually. Adjust Simmer Ring to a reduced flame.
      Add the Peanut Butter and Honey. Allow to 'prut' for 3 to 5 minutes (depending on preference and ambient temp), adding water to suit and stirring as and when required.
      Lastly, add Corn Flakes to 'thicken' the Slop to the desired level of Glop.
      Enjoy 😋. It'll keep the internal fires burning and energy up until Supper's ready. The Coffee can be enjoyed later whenever as the Thermos and Sleeve will keep the water therein hot for an appreciable length of time. Anyway, Coffee, in my opinion, should never be made with boiling water. I do not make the Coffee earlier and store it in the Thermos as I may rather prefer later, a Fruit Tea. Then it's easy peas to bring the Thermos Water back up to a rolling boil (Tea must have a rolling boil to fully extract the flavour from the leaves).
      I always leave camp with a hot thermos. Later, if required, it quicker to bring the water back up to the required heat for coffee, noodles, cuppa soup, tea, etc. Even, when feeling chilled, just hot water from the flask, cooled to a drinkable level with cold water if necessary, is a nice and quick 'warmer upper' for the body core.
      Full English Breakfasts also done .. amongst other .. 😊.

      Thomas, I must say that you have plenty of material for making your own videos on the matter if you should so desire. I've seen a lot of channels that post videos, with a lot of views, that has but a fraction of the substance your comments show. You Sir, are a rich well of knowledge and I am thankful that you share it. All the best!

    • @thomasmusso1147
      @thomasmusso1147 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RedswedeOutdoors Thank You, Sir, for your kind words 🤗.
      'Well of Knowledge'? 🤔 .. any knowledge gained is that gleaned from others. A Story if I may please..
      Many years back, before the Internet and You Tube / Equivalents really took off, I saw an advertisement in my coastal village weekly newspaper .. a free giveaway set of DIY books, 15 volumes in all .. and very comprehensive they were as I found out later. An old couple (late 70's / early 80's?) had sold their seafront property and were moving into a retirement complex, inter alia, to be closer to family, especially the grand and great grandchildren. I was first on the scene and after a nice chat, the old guy presented me with the set of books with the words (to this effect), "Young man (I was in my mid-forties at the time, but then, age is relative 😏), if one can read and has patience, one can learn to do anything." As a keen DIY'er, that book set was an absolute fountain of knowledge which served me well for many years thenceforward. I have since donated the set to the village library. Yes, the ability to read 'with patience' .. and to add, being able to watch (and again patiently and learn by) others going something exceptionally well is a habit well worth cultivating.
      Me a You Tuber? Respectfully, naaah 😁. Although my career past has encompassed giving formal presentations (many) .. and the training therein / transfer of learning (much of), that is now past. I shall now be content throwing down, at my pleasure, comments and suggestions (good or bad, aka 'Useless Information' .. once again, all relative) from the Peanut Gallery, with popcorn in hand and comfortable in the knowledge that it is free .. can be ignored or hopefully used productively by others.
      Keep them coming please and take care .. Tommy

    So I got a silicone muffin pan and I used it in the trangia 25. Used the bowl and frypan to make an oven. Used a small heat diffuser under the bowl. Bing bang boom….worked like a champ. Think I’ll make chili and cornbread when the weather cools a bit.

      That's truly a challenge, I'll be hard pressed to find most of the ingredients here... but I guess "swedish style" gives me a lot of leeway to choose seafood that is avalible here. I have fond memories from NOLA, both the city, the people and the food. To date the only time I had aligator for dinner. ;) Cheers!

I'll be needing it October 12-15, so please make sure to mail it with plenty of time to arrive by my scheduled time 😂 haha seriously, though, congrats on the first check! I can't say there's an abundance of flat rocks over here either, so if I find one I stick to it. In a pich I use my cutting board and a cork coaster to get a flat surface. More junk, but I tend to bring it anyway. Cheers!

    Hello! We had the same experience as you today making pancakes on our new Trangia: The simmering lid takes away too much heat. So do you ever use the simmering lid? What is it good for?

    • @RedswedeOutdoors
      @RedswedeOutdoors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      O yes Ane, I'm using the simmer ring quite a lot, and not just for putting out the burner. The main problem is that the potstand in the Mini restricts the usefulness of it, I've been toying around with the thought to make some cut-outs to give more room for different settings of the simmer ring but isn't sure yet if it's a good or a bad idea. Cheers!
