Great video, honestly would've never guessed that storing around 40-60% is ideal with a few charge cycles during storage. 40 years of experience, this is a man we can trust lol!
Great tips! I also want to throw in a tip I got from another source. Like our Mavic drones, i have ebikes that also use lithium batteries. I learned recently, that part of the reason we experience a shorter range aside from natural battery degradation is that the cells inside the battery have become ‘unbalanced’. This can be remedied by charging the battery to full and then leave the charger plugged in for another few hours. For a big ebike battery, they recommend 8 hrs. Then use the battery as normal and repeat the process. This will serve to trickle charge the cells that may be lower than their neighbors.. these lower cells act as the weakest link in the chain. Hope this is helpful. Cheers!
Thanks helpful video, I didn't know that the balancing is done inside the lipo that makes swallowing the cost a bit easier! I also found the batt voltage meter is helpful to add to the screen when flying and try to land when cells are 3.85v each perfect for storing..
thats great really appreciate your video. I have learned that these batteries can be expensive, so treat them like gold. I have also learned that after flying i pull out the heated up battery out of the drone when im done flying (just good practice) and let the battery and drone componets inside cool down, and recharge it.
Hi, According to Mavic's user manual, the Intelligent Flight Battery after a pre-set period of time automatically discharges itself to a storage safe level (60%). Factory default time-frame is 10 days. Discharge can take up to 3 days. I hope it helps.
All what I say is that Mavic users shouldn't really worry about the battery until they fly once in every one or two months. A charged battery is ready to fly for 10 days, then it discharges itself, and safe to leave it as is.
Hi George & Marionville… so if i have a fully charged battery and I don’t used in more than 10 days it will discharge itself to a safe charge storage?… so i don’t have to worry about discharge it myself, its that correct ?…. thank you
An excellent video with some very useful information. I've had the Phantoms, 3 and 3 Pro, and now I'm the new (last four days) owner of a Mavic Pro and enjoying it immensely. I appreciate videos such as yours with correct information so thank you for taking the time to make these for us. I subscribed to your channel a while ago, so good luck with all your future videos.
Great Video, thank you for making the initial charging clear. Question, where I have 3 batteries, would it be better not to initially charge 1 battery and save it as a back up. I don't think I will ever need 3 batteries to be live all the time so if I keep one as I received it new, will it remain that way until I decide to activate it? Thank you!
Thanks for the vid. Im happy that dji made a smart battery. I'm so tired of using my balance charger for my bb2 batteries and can't wait till my mavic finally comes in. Thanks again you rock man
You talked about storage for quad batteries, what about the non-removable RC battery maintenance. Should one try to drain the RC batt to 50% for storage also?
Good video any ideas would be appreciated Just opened sealed mavic pro put controller and battery on charge and battery isn’t charging it just blinks 16 times on and off? I haven’t even put the mavic through the dji app like my other old drone
If you don’t get more that two light after charging then I would say it’s not right. You can check the battery health in the app by tapping the battery icon on the top right.
Many thanks , I was worried about my battery care but very clear advice. I have heard you should not run them too low when flying. I like to land with 20% at the lowest for safety but again for battery care is there a minimum level to take them too? Thanks Alan
Is it true these batteries (RC and Drone) can only be used upto half charge on remote and 2/3rds on drone? I'm told when I use a friend's that @ 50% the remote shouldn't be used anymore. And @ 35% the drone battery needs to be replaced with a 100% battery
I enjoyed making them but im not sure there will be any more. They are costing to much to make and the retail drone business isnt what it used to be. People no longer support smaller dealers any more.
Great video, thanks for sharing. Do you have any advice on iPhone battery draining when running the DJI App (30% drain after 5 mins) Thanks in advance.
Good video. Question - Can the controller be charged with any USB charger? (such as Apple's iPhone charger) or should you only use the DJI USB charger?
It is advisable to charge batteries to 50 % when leaving stored for weeks or months. When using the hub charger is it recommended to physically pull battery off charge hub when approx 50% and the 240 volt power socket is on , or turn the 240 volt power socket switch off and leave battery connected to charge hub when 50 % reached? then remove battery. IE - one way removes battery while still being charged, and the other turns 240 volt power off , wait a short time then remove battery from charge hub. Just wondering what is the correct way to avoid charger /battery terminal damage.
Can you get a hobby grade charger like a b6 imax balance charger with red and black leads made fit for the Mavic pro battery and set it for 3 cell lipo and store it 50 percent?
I have looked after my battery and never dropped it or crashed the Mavic Pro drone. I did the dreaded update which killed my battery and now the middle 2 lights are lit up. It won't even trun on the drone so what could I do in this instance? Thanks
thanks for this video.....i just have the Mavic Pro now for one day....really nice flying and excellent camera....what will i do now with my 6x home made Drones ? :) but what a bad way to charge the controller !! everytime you have to remove the cable from the Smartphone to the controller mini USB port ( wel its not really mini ) and put the other cable in it to charge....its just waiting after some time that that port will break... :( .....why not use the other USB normal bigger port to charge the controller ! or is it possible ?
I've been using LiPo's and various other rechargeables since my days as a wedding photographer fifty years ago. Obviously, technology has changed many times over from those original NiCads and wet cells. My question is, that even rather recently, it has been suggested that new LiPo batteries be fully charged and discharged at least once. I realize that 30% is the default for DJI low battery warning and that you don't want to completely drain the battery (below 10%). At any rate, does any of this apply to the DJI batteries, or is this not necessary? Thanks as always for your great vids!
@Marionville Multirotors I had purchased a Mavic Pro and two extra batteries about a year and a half ago. I had not opened them at all and have been sitting in a very good dry and out of sunlight storage space for that time. I didn't get time to use it at all no thanks to a number of pretty critical and/or unfortunate circumstances including work, travel, and family. But I'm now in the position to try it out now. However, all three batteries do not power on nor do they charge. And warranty is obviously out the window. What options do I have to fix these 'dead' batteries?
Jacky Fan the voltage in the battery may have dropped to low unfortunately. You may find if you leave them in the charger for a period of time they may kick in.
@@MarionvillemodelsMultirotors One of them had lit up last night so I kept it on the DJI charger. But it now doesn't light up at all on one click. I'll keep them on charge and see if I get anywhere. The adaptor should be working because it charged the remote via the included USB cable. Thanks for the help! Fingers crossed I can get them to come back to life!
my battery is new and the led lights light up then the center two stay dim... is this a issue? is there anyway to rest the firmware to the battery if there is? any input would be greatly appreciated.
Great video mate, very informative. Does anyone know what length of time is considered as storage? I fly at least once a month, so would 3 weeks be considered as storage?
Question for you , do camera settings load in camera or app, meaning when I fly while using my phone, then switch to ipad, will mavic use settings ( record video) from iphone or ipad ( if they are different..?)..Thanx
OK, Now confused, TVS Pro Replied to me says " I believe the settings are per portable device, not copter. Simply because each device can be logged into a different DJI account." guess I'll have to do my own testing, Great Videos MM.
I have a magic air 2 that I have never taken out of the box yet for about 6 months now meaning the batteries are still in hibernation mode. Is this bad?😳
It charges them one after the other, so one will be fully charged and ready to fly in a short period of time, and you are free to fly while the rest is still charging.
Hi ChainsawDude I think if you have a full night to charge your batteries it doesn't make any difference if the hub charges them simultaneously, or one after the other, the total charging time will be the same, and all will be fully charged in the morning both ways. Charging them one after the other really counts when you need more batteries to be charged, _and_ you would like to get back in the sky as soon as possible. This way you just wait for the first one, and while you use it the second (and the rest) will start charging. Clever idea!
Thanks so much for ALL your Mavic video's. As a newbie, your video's are easy to follow and understand, making it so much easier to learn. I still can't believe the crappy instruction manuel you get in the box ! In another video (not yours) the guy said that he keeps his batteries in the fridge ?????? Whats your thoughts on that ? Cheers from Sweden
What do you recommend for setting the default battery discharge time to. It's ten days from the factory but wouldn't 5 or 4 days be better for keeping them longer?
Marionville Multirotors Thanks bro, that's what I went with. I had it set to 2 days but that's way to soon. They hit really warm in the bag really quickly. At 5 days that's not happening.
You know its all well and good saying what percentage to store battery's like these but are we really supposed to charge full, put it in the mavic, fly it for 20 mins then charge it again but only to 50% or whatever but hang on? How do I know? I have to keep unplugging it and putting it in the quad to find out? And what if I've put too much in like 70% I've then got to fly it some more to drain some power. THEN! I have 3 more battery's to do that to. I'd have to take a day off work just to put my battery's in storage mode???
ksrnate best practice is to fully charge it after you use it and it will auto discharge to storage charge it's self. You can set the delay in the battery settings.
Marionville Multirotors That's actually the reason why I watched this video, I thought there maybe more info on that. I've set all 4 of mine to discharge in 3 days. 5th day now and they are all still fully charged?
Hi guys, l have 4 Mavic Pro batteries that have not been used for over a year and are obviously not charging 😢 can you guys fix them and if so how much will it cost me? Cheers Dave...
Unfortunately you can’t brake the Mavic packs open to get to the cells to manually boost them back up. The Inspire 1 was the last battery you could do this on.
@@MarionvillemodelsMultirotors cheers for the quick reply, it was after watching another video that the guy connected the battery to a small circuit board then via software managed to get the battery charging again. As it is beyond my technical 😜 skills I thought of you guys 😉
lol if u'd just got me a couple of hours ago I just ordered a shitload of gear off ebay - i'll be getting the mavic soon when the goggles come back in stock ,i'll look ya up
I've had a look - the price on your fly more pack for the mavic is a bit steep ,mate but it shows the goggles! u got the dji goggles in stock?maybe after the import tax from the other sellers the price might go up enough to make your fly more pack price competitive ,I dunno ,if so i'll be back(example =ordered p3 standard from amazon 500 euros and then they added 170 tax to deliver to Ireland) - I might be making the mavic purchase as early as tomorrow - i'm really tempted to get the goggles too even tho I can't really afford them right now lol -anyway I suppose main question = u got the dji goggles in stock right now?
My price is the RRP and as i pay VAT and duty and shipping when i receive my stock it leaves me with very little as the exchange rate for the pound is very poor against the dollar. The goggles are still pre order as i dont expect them till the end of the month.
MsLostboysforever it will tell you in the battery menu. If I remember right it’s in the top right hand corner of the app where the battery icon/voltage is.
Hi.. I noticed that my Mavic Remote Controller is charging up my phone battery. Is there any fix or settings that i can change to prevent this from happening? It's just draining my RC battery.. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance.
Marionville Multirotors no I was being serious.. just picked up a mavic and 3 extra batteries. I want to make them last as long as possible.. edit: thinking about your reply.. now I'm thinking you meant fully discharged when you said "flat"...🤔
what about that battery charger that you can buy separately for about 50 some dollars and charges all three batteries at once and the controller. Do you think that would harm the batteries in any way if used properly? I'm thinking of purchasing one.
Yes but as its not made by DJI if it were to damage your batteries you wont be covered by warranty. These unknown Chinese companies mass produce these chargers with little quality control.
I bought 2 extra batteries from banggood...took like 4 months to get here...when I try charging them 1 led keeps flashing over and over then stops and starts flashing again
Jun Gulgar first never buy your batteries from places Like Bangood as Lipo batteries are difficult to ship back if you have issues. It sounds like there are cell errors and you need to return them. DJI batteries only have a 6 month shelf life, if a dealer has them on their shelf for longer they need to charge them to stop the voltage dropping off and causing a charging error.
Jun Gulgar if you fit the battery to the drone and go to the battery menus in the top left of the app you can check the cell condition and see if there are any issues.
The battery will discharge on its own to safe levels. What we need to worry about is putting them into storage with low charge. It can drain itself, not charge itself.
Ordered mine I September from drones direct I was told I would have it by end of October then end of November now mid December it's a joke I thinking refund as mid 2017 mavic pro 2 might be releases
Curious and something NO ONE MENTIONS! Everyone talks about the charge state and care for storage of the Mavic batteries. I've seen many videos discussing this. NO ONE talks about the controller. Is the controller lithium Ion also. Should it be treated the same or differently? If so then differently in what way? A Clip in clip out Mavic battery's life shortened by lack of care is expensive and a pain. But the internal battery of the controller is a far more serious problem. It either has to go back to DJI or be brought to an electronic repair. During the time it's being shipped and repaired all you'll have is your phone to fly the drone and I'd bet that a controller battery and labor and shipping would cost more than a Mavic clip in. Someone out there doing these maintenance videos should address controller maintenance care because few have the knowledge, skill or availability of parts to work internally on their own controller. I've thought about buying a Mavic since it came out. I just ordered a platinum a week ago. I have watched hundreds of videos on every subject from unboxing to year reviews and have yet to see a single video that even mentions the controller's internal battery care.
Hundreds of charges! Wow, thats great. One of my "smart mavic pro batteries" cells took a dump after just 12 charges, confirmed by dji. Hopefully it was just a fluke battery, otherwise keeping my mavic pro in the air will ne expensive.
Sorry but you've made a little mistake.manual Samsung you must charge batteries and controller (bitter, transmitter stuff) one Art a time,as the percent of voltage should decalibrate batteries
Hmm...you called it a charger and charging hub!! You had already told us that the battery has the charger inside! If the charger is in the battery the "charger " is only a power supply.
robert ramsey yes its only a power supply but viewers tent to understand better when it's referred to as the charger as smart batteries with built in chargers are not common place.
Where you get that 6 months sitting in shelf in storage mode are not good for the battery? Dude.... you really spreading wrong knowledge In that 6 month period in Shelf, the battery wont damage at all, it will enter sleep mode And after that you can wake the battery with 2-5 cycle, just use it like usual Dont know where you got that asumption?
These batteries are so poorly designed it's embarrassing that you have to do all these tricks to maintain them it's just such high maintenance for a 1k product
It’s the hi performance nature of the Lithium Polymer batterie. To get the performance they require extra attention. Lithium ion batteries are more reliable but they don’t give the same performance.

Great tips! I also want to throw in a tip I got from another source. Like our Mavic drones, i have ebikes that also use lithium batteries. Hope this is helpful. Cheers!
Thanks helpful video, I didn't know that the balancing is done inside the lipo that makes swallowing the cost a bit easier!

You talked about storage for quad batteries, what about the non-removable RC battery maintenance. Should one try to drain the RC batt to 50% for storage also?
It would be a good idea as well as the rc battery isn't replaceable.
What about the remote battery? How should we treat it, in case we won't fly the Mavc for apporx. 1-2 months?
neighborsgoat it's not as critical as the demand on the battery is not as high but still store around 50%.

Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the great review. Do you know the reasons behinds 'bloated' batteries?
Tony Malferrari If a battery voltage has gone to low they tend to bloat. They usually don’t work well after that and there no way to fix it.
Is it true these batteries (RC and Drone) can only be used upto half charge on remote and 2/3rds on drone?
I'm told when I use a friend's that @ 50% the remote shouldn't be used anymore. And @ 35% the drone battery needs to be replaced with a 100% battery
All very good info ….and useful additional to the guidelines provided by DJI with the Mavic.

Is it advisable or good for the batteries wellbeing to leave them in the hub, when they are fully charged?
Deff not, ive had a customer who ruined all three of his batteries leaving them on the hub in storage mode.
Wait, so the charging HUB only charges 1 battery at a time? Does that mean it would take about three hours to charge them all up?
Chad Littlefield yes

I have 3 more battery's to do that to. I'd have to take a day off work just to put my battery's in storage mode???
ksrnate best practice is to fully charge it after you use it and it will auto discharge to storage charge it's self. You can set the delay in the battery settings.
Marionville Multirotors
That's actually the reason why I watched this video, I thought there maybe more info on that. I've set all 4 of mine to discharge in 3 days. 5th day now and they are all still fully charged?
Nice job
Thanks Ricc,
Another helpfull video.
Sandy
Cheers. Although now that I've done it I keep thinking of other things to include.
Is there a way to charge the mavic pro directly without taking out the battery?
Steve Sanchez not that I’m aware of.
Wow, great video. Thank you!
hey man , ever think of delivering to Ireland? It's very costly for us to get them from America and the drone market is about to explode here
Yes i do deliver to Ireland.
lol if u'd just got me a couple of hours ago I just ordered a shitload of gear off ebay - i'll be getting the mavic soon when the goggles come back in stock ,i'll look ya up
That will be great.
Okay flew it today took it out @ 23% prolly wont fly it for a minute what are you suggesting
Brilliant info thanks
How many days to self discharge is best? I currently have mine set to 5 days.
N'th DEGREE DRONE that's fine.
How do you know how many times your battery has been charged (mavic mini)
MsLostboysforever it will tell you in the battery menu. If I remember right it’s in the top right hand corner of the app where the battery icon/voltage is.
@@MarionvillemodelsMultirotors thank you :)
Hi.. I noticed that my Mavic Remote Controller is charging up my phone battery. Is there any fix or settings that i can change to prevent this from happening? It's just draining my RC battery.. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance.
The only thing that I know of is rooting an android phone and disabling the charging by USB.
HI is it okay to charge the mavic remote to a battery bank like Anker Powercore 20100, Input: 5V 2A Output: 5V 4.8A ? thank you !
Glen Espinosa I'm not sure.
can the mavic air controller be charged using a phone charger?
Good tips. Tks.
Hi. You say don't store it flat. Should I store it standing up?
Ill be honest, im not sure if your kidding or not.
Marionville Multirotors no I was being serious.. just picked up a mavic and 3 extra batteries. I want to make them last as long as possible.. edit: thinking about your reply.. now I'm thinking you meant fully discharged when you said "flat"...🤔
Yes thats correct, flat meaning with no charge.
Marionville Multirotors thanks. Very helpful👍
The battery will take an hour to charge but if you forgot it charging and it crossed the hour will it over charge and harm the battery?
Yarniek Ali No. The battery will stop charging when it’s fully charged.
So how would we know when the battery is at 60% and take it off the charger?
TeamPreach your battery will automatically discharge to 50% after a few days.
i have a battery which 4 pin are out or not there anymore, can it be repaired?
roxedan120362 I wouldn’t think so. I don’t think there is a way to get into the connector.
if I'm going to store the battery for three or four weeks how do I determine what is 60%?
Third light flashing on the battery would be about right.
So everytime click on the "click.dji.com ..." you get a bit of commission from dji ?
If so, let me know i'll click more.
Very informative... thank you.
Thank you.
how do you discharge the battery and how low should you discharge?
Speedy2246 the craft batteries will discharge them selves. The controller battery isn't as critical.
Is it safe to keep the battery's fully charged and stored up to a month ?
Your battery will automatically discharge after 10days so it shouldn't be an issue. www.patreon.com/marionvillemultirotors
Do they have to be in the drone to do that and thanks for your reply much appreciated
my mavic is about two month old, when plugged the remote controller says charging but actually it doesnt gain any charge :/
viajes80 is this the controller.
very useful info, not only for mavic but for any dji product...thanks for sharing...
Rob Simpson yes applicable to all smart batteries.
what about that battery charger that you can buy separately for about 50 some dollars and charges all three batteries at once and the controller. Do you think that would harm the batteries in any way if used properly? I'm thinking of purchasing one.
It shouldn't but be very carefull when using non branded chargers as they could end up damaging your battereis.
Marionville Multirotors it says it's specifically for the mavic
Yes but as its not made by DJI if it were to damage your batteries you wont be covered by warranty. These unknown Chinese companies mass produce these chargers with little quality control.
I bought 2 extra batteries from banggood...took like 4 months to get here...when I try charging them 1 led keeps flashing over and over then stops and starts flashing again
how do I fix this problem?
are these batteries in hibernation...how to I activate them
Jun Gulgar first never buy your batteries from places
Like Bangood as Lipo batteries are difficult to ship back if you have issues.
@@MarionvillemodelsMultirotors I tried it yesterday but the batteries cannot even power on the drone on
The battery will discharge on its own to safe levels. What we need to worry about is putting them into storage with low charge. It can drain itself, not charge itself.
ToxicityAssured yes they will discharge to storage levels if they are fully charged.
Never mind DJI warranty, we have Sale of Goods legislation, take it up with the retailer. Good information here though.
Ordered mine I September from drones direct I was told I would have it by end of October then end of November now mid December it's a joke I thinking refund as mid 2017 mavic pro 2 might be releases
Hank The Tank Trueman delivery on Mavic's have been a complete joke. My deliveries have been dribbling in.
Is it better to totally discharge it or its okie to charge it even its like 60 to 90 percent, this is to make sure i have 100% when i go out
Dont run it right down, i wouldn't go lower than say 10% but 20% would be better. You can charge from any percentage.
Mike Comeau you can be unlucky but I have seen batteries with low cycles fail if their a fair age.
Wow I've gotten 235 flights out of 1 of my batteries. Lvl 27 1.5m ft flown😎
Is that a New York accent? 2:14 Whoops
purge98 it shouldn't be. I'm Scottish.
i left mine fully charged for 2 weeks and it went down to 73%
Sorry but you've made a little mistake.manual Samsung you must charge batteries and controller (bitter, transmitter stuff) one Art a time,as the percent of voltage should decalibrate batteries
Ive always charged them together but yes DJI say to do them one at a time.
Enjoyed thank you
PS It is D J I not DGI lol :)
I know. It's the way I pronounce it.
I have 140 charges on my Mavic batteries. No problem.
Alabama Thorne of looked after you can have many more. I have customers with over 400 charges on a battery.
Hi can I get 1 the phantom 4or3
Pls pls pls
Because I don't have drone :(((( pls pls pls
Hmm...you called it a charger and charging hub!! You had already told us that the battery has the charger inside! If the charger is in the battery the "charger " is only a power supply.
robert ramsey yes its only a power supply but viewers tent to understand better when it's referred to as the charger as smart batteries with built in chargers are not common place.
it's good to educate the viewers! :)
Where you get that 6 months sitting in shelf in storage mode are not good for the battery?
Dude.... you really spreading wrong knowledge
In that 6 month period in Shelf, the battery wont damage at all, it will enter sleep mode
And after that you can wake the battery with 2-5 cycle, just use it like usual
Dont know where you got that asumption?
j3fron I get it from my 30 years in the RC industry and dealing with DJI products since 2012. If it doesn’t work for you then try another channel.
0:11 "RC Specialist for over 40 years"
You must mean the company has over 40 years experience, because you don't look a day over 35. (No Homo)
MarcAntony yes you are correct. The business is now 45 years old. And thank you for the age complement but I’m 50 years old.
