I was a lifeguard at Cermak Pool in the 1980s. I am familiar with Stella's batting cages and the ice cream shop next to it. The Army Corps of Engineers tore the dam down at Des Plaines river in front of the tower. Logs used to jam up and toss around in front of that dam. The noise disturbed the rich Riverside residents and they brought about the removal of the dam.
The "Swinging Bridge" is nearby too, a cable suspended bridge over the river near the tower. Millbridge roller rink was a favorite hangout in the 1950s, it remained open until 1985, it was right there on Ogden Ave.

Another thought that benefits having a drone. Flying from the ground up about 10 feet away from the building . As if you're going up an elevator on the outside of the building it gives incredible views of the details of the building and the close-up view as you slowly climb is dramatic. perhaps practice flying around the building at the top all the while pointing toward the flagpole. It would be great to see more footage during the summer.

Thank you! I have enjoyed the tower for over 50 years but have never been able to go up into it. So I was hoping someone would record quality drone footage of the building . what a beautiful old historic structure.

Glad you enjoyed it. These were early attempts. I have better drones and more skills. Yes, I'll be flying more this summer.

Do you remember anything else inside the tower? My dad told me there was a post office inside and a museum on ground floor

@highoctanegames yes the original post office and the historical society was in there. Also there was a small mini tower across the street which had Hoffmanns office in it. He built a brewery where stellas batting cage is currently

Better With A Drone if you happen to find yourself downtown, stop by old town. We can fly our drones.

This flight was done with the advanced controller. I wouldn't have done it with the WiFi app. I'm still practicing with the app and hope to use the waypoints, but so far it's still iffy. I have a fenced-in ball park where I practice. This was my first safari to a site. Thanks for your comments
