    Lesson: Don't go just anywhere for a tattoo. Find an artist that fits what you want done, period. Do not go to an artist who CLEARLY doesn't do that work.

    One thing I have to say about stencils being approved, but then hating the resulting tattoo is that I consulted with an artist who drew up a design and when I said I wanted the lines bolder she said “they will be thicker than this, this is just my stencil” so I think she used a stencil with finer lines as a guide and then tattooed thicker lines over it. I don’t really agree with this method, but maybe this is where some of these tragedies stem from

    • @sackme4377
      @sackme4377 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It can result in some shitty linework sometimes, but the stencil isn't ever really as thick as the actual tattoo will be. Say script work for example, you don't lay down the whole script (if its bold betters), it's an outline you fill in. If it's a design, and you have a really thin stencil but intend on doing thicker lines, it depends how big the difference is. It can lead to needing to change parts down the line because the stencil just didn't hold up. If there's parts that are meant to be thin, you're also setting yourself up for failure there, cause it can be easy to just get in the zone too much and end up making thin lines thick on accident. All in all, the stencil should be true to the piece, esp if it's a design they drew, they have the means to just make it thicker.

    Regarding the "didnt they see the stencil??" question, the first professional tattoo i got when I was 18 turned out differently than I expected. It's pretty much American traditional style but there are some parts where the linework overlaps a bit or lines are a little crooked. It's a dagger and the center line showing the bevel of the blade doesn't line up with the point of the blade. Just little details that look more like mistakes rather than intentional stylistic choices. Most of these details were in the stencil. I got this tattoo with my sister as a matching tattoo and she did everything to negotiate the design and everything. She showed me the design and I said I like it but i don't really like how it looks a little sloppy. She told me what do you mean thats just his style and it'll look better as the actual tattoo. I trusted her when she said this since she just dismissed my hesitation because she already had quite a few tattoos at that point. I kind of just thought that he would fix the little mistakes in the final design. Yes, it was my fault for not standing my ground about what I didnt like about the design and it was my fault for not communicating with the artist but I was young and inexperienced and trusted the tattoo professional and my sister who had experience getting tattoos to guide me. Basically, it's not the tattoo artist's fault if they tattoo the stencil exactly and you don't like the design but I can understand how this sort of thing happens especially with people who don't have any/many tattoos or people who haven't been properly educated about what kind of communication should happen between the tattoo artist and the client

    • @DeathnoteBB
      @DeathnoteBB 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      ?? It’s not your fault at all, you warned her, it was her body and her tattoo. It wasn’t your job or responsibility to prevent her making a mistake

      My first tattoo was on my right ankle it also has some problem areas it's a spider and two of the legs didn't turn out how it looked on the stencil but I couldn't look at my leg while tattooing and even while standing at the mirror it was hard to see the tattoo it wasn't until i recored it than saw the mistakes I realized, I still love my tattoo it's only 1 year old and my artist was amazing so it is what it is .

    • @Blue-wz5um
      @Blue-wz5um 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@DeathnoteBB I think you misunderstood, it was my body and my tattoo. My sister and I got matching ones. She was happy with hers because she signed off on the design. I had hesitations about the design but went with it regardless because I didn't know how to speak up for myself at that time. I still love the tattoo because of what it means and that I share it with my sister, but if I did it again today knowing what I know now, I would have fought harder for a better design or gone to a different artist

    Stencil approval vs what I got
    MY FIRST TATTOO at 18 no less..... I went in for something specific and it was basically just a black and grey flower.. artist told me it was too much detail in a too small area so she'd have to make it bigger. I said that was fine. She then prints out this HUGE stencil (to go on my inner wrist, as my first ever tattoo) and I mean HUGE. I wanted like a 2 inch flower and she tried to make it my whole forearm. So I confess I'm not comfortable with the size and it needs to be scaled down. She makes it smaller but still quite large. She starts the tattoo meanwhile my boyfriend is next to me also getting a tattoo. She keeps saying how well I'm sitting and blah blah and at one point she deviates from the stencil ALOT and I froze with fear. All I could think is I'm fucked. She notices my reaction and says not to worry that it's fine. "I meant to do that" "there's nothing to worry about, it's gonna be great" . I get wiped down, she takes a few pictures and no gel or cream or even a solution for sterilization was put on me and I'm just sent off. I CRIED . cried the whole drive home to my boyfriend about how bad it looks . I don't post pictures of it or show it to people. I even hid it for a long time it was so bad. I've cried so many times over how bad it is. About a year later I went to a different shop looking to see if it could be fixed up ( cause it's basically an all black flower and huge so there is no covering it) and the guy told me that the artist should never of put something so bad on a child's arm and that it was one of the worst tattoos he's seen come through. He went over the whole thing trying to improve the shaky lines and patches and smooth things out and put in a lot of white ink to try and make the black blob on my arm resemble a flower.... It's much better now but I haven't looked at that arm in years. It still upsets me so much. It made me so afraid to get another tattoo.

    I know the stencil thing makes sense but if any of these ppl are like me and don’t wanna “bother” a tattoo artist they won’t speak up for themselves if something is wrong

    • @krisaissosmart
      @krisaissosmart 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anyone that isn't comfortable speaking up should bring a friend along that knows exactly what they are / aren't wanting. When the stencil is ready, that friend can say things like, "didn't you want it a bit smaller than this?" " i thought you were wanting this other font." "I think that's misspelled" etc. That way they have someone else that can bring it up and then all they have to do is agree or disagree.
      Aside from that, I would definitely stress to people that this will be on your body permanently. If you don't speak up beforehand, it's going to be more hassle to fix later. A good artist won't take offense if you need to adjust the design. They would rather spend 5 minutes tweaking it than see you ranting on social media about how much you hate your tattoo when you never brought up your concerns to them personally. As someone that has social anxiety and generally hates criticizing people, I know it's stressful. But at the same time, if you know it's not what you want, and you don't say anything right then, it kind of becomes your fault. If you tell them it's good to go, knowing it's not, you don't get to blame them later for not giving you what you wanted.
      Also, you are under no obligation to let that person tattoo you. If you aren't comfortable for any reason, you are perfectly in your right to stop the session and leave. You are paying them for a service. So, if they aren't able to do that service the way you expect, stop them, pay them for whatever services you HAVE received and walk away.

    You know, I was wondering if there is such a thing as a "whiteout tattoo", like a blackout tattoo, but with white ink, like what if you tattooed your whole entire arm white...? I tried to find photos but couldn't, does anyone know if that's a thing?

    Omg that poor lady!
    My tattoo artist told me right away she can't do a specific style I wanted for the sleeve (geometry with a lot of thin details), that she can try but can't promise it will be good. So for this one I just went to a different artist. And there were situations with other tattoos where she would tell me like "this will fall out" or "in a three years it will look blurred", so we could fix the sketch before the session or at least so I know the risk.

    The fact that the artist from the last lady was like "These are the places where you can get it covered/removed, but don't tell them it came from me" is so sketchy to me. Maybe I'm just cynical, but that makes it sound like this has happened to him before, and he's trying to cover his ass. I mean, also the whole unsending and denying what he literally just said thing, but still.

    Hi there, new subscriber currently binging all your content xD Because you asked about the centipede or millipede: It's a centipede. Rule of thumb: if it's kinda cute, can roll up and has short, band-like leggies, it's a millipede. If it looks dangerous, has huge pincers and nasty, hooky legs, it's a centipede. Which also sums up their personalities and "lifestyles" pretty well xD Millipedes usually eat fruit and veg and detritus and centipedes go out and hunt stuff with their venomous pincers and they are FAST. Hope that helped and didn't give you the worst nightmares :D

  • @emsuroo
    @emsuroo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The straight line quote reminded me of my one word tattoo. It's a simple word in my native language, the tattoo artist did the stencil on whatever program she used and it looked good. But somehow the end result is that the couple last letters get a little bigger? A little stretched like it has some perspective stuff going on and the last letters are "closer to the camera" in a way. It's not even unevenly stretched etc, it's very subtle and I've had people tell me they thought it was intentional. I've never figured out what happened there. 👀
    It was my first tattoo so I was just so excited to have an important thing tattooed on me that I didn't even notice the "font change" until way later when I was nowhere near the studio anymore and I was too socially awkward and anxious to ever message her about it. I was also unsure if as a first timer I'd done something, like moved in a weird way, for it to happen? But it just looks way too consistently and neatly done I feel it wouldn't make any sense. 🤔 It doesn't necessarily bother me a lot, just confuses mostly. Some day I'll probably get it covered with something nice and have another artist do the word on me and make it look better, but I'm not in a hurry luckily.

    My friend went to a tattoo shop w/ a inspo pic for a memorial tattoo. The guy legit copied the inspo pic n tattooed it on her the only small modification was my friends signature at the bottom n it was bigger in size. N it was a "reputable" shop in our small town! She loves it n stuff so i havent told her that a good tattoo artiet would have made it more personal n idk different? It gave me overall sketch vibes tht tjr artist would blatantly copy the inspo art work to a TEA. Its a nice looking tattoo (thank god) but the fact that its a 98% copy makes me iffy of getting work done there n i wouldnt reccomend the shop but my friend wants more ink and wants to go there n it makes me slightly annoyed because there are so many shops that are only 1-3 hours away that do AMAZING work but she settled for a mediocre (and questionable) shop which makes me sad because ive seen the artist portafplios and there average to some looking pretty bad (by their seasoned workers too!) Its also a all male run shop w/iffy vibes, esp when we went w/another friend who got piercings there. Luckily i live a few hours from better tattoo shops that are legacies shops in trad tattoos!(my preferred style)

    Last tattoo I got was last year and it was on my hand. Next day my hand was so swollen and hugeeeeèe. On the third day I very lightly with no soap ran water on it and the ink was just running down the drain!!!! It didnt stop. Mind you this was my 6th tattoo so I knew how to take proper care of them while healing. It healed horribly and slowly. Within 5 months the my tattoo looked extremely faded as if I got it when I was 12 and I'm 90 now. I paid almost 400 to my friend who has done great ink to many people over the years. He's worked in shops etc. Me saying g that is to show like I didn't just pick anyone out there but I guess it didn't matter. He then proceeded to blame me for that saying I never put cream on it!!! Ugh the anger that I had and have is unmeasurable.
    EDIT: For reference. . .The tattoo wasn't a light style. The lines were nice and thick etc. Nothing that would have faded fast etc. It was one of those "jewelry style" tattoos but there was nothing delicate about it lol

      @1FUCANR3ADTH1SURC00L 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a person who feels like I'd want a copied tattoo I'll share my perspective.
      I've never gotten a tattoo but I've thought of it. I'm a perfectionist and I can get very particular and picky when making serious or permanent decisions like a tattoo. When I was getting inspiration, after scrolling through tons of photos, I found an image of a tattoo that was exactly what I wanted. So for me, it's hard not to fixate on it and think of changing something to make it unique when that's exactly what I was looking for. The look is my priority, not uniquness--if thousands of people had the same tattoo I wouldn't care. So initally, I couldn't see the point in the argument about changing something so it's not exactly the same as someone else's.
      Now that I've been educated about the ethicality of it and realize the negativty that goes along with copying tattoos or not getting permission, I get it. Still bugs me though. I don't totally agree with the territoriality of art and I still think the argument is somewhat flawed...what if I came up with the exact same design on my own without knowing? Then would it be fine? Is it my own fault for not being artistic enough to design it on my own? Irs annoying even to me that I'm so particular but it's just the way my brain works, I can't help it.
      I've put off getting one partly for this reason.

    I'm still conflicted on that last tattoo because just like every other person who got something way different than what they wanted, she would have seen the stencil, right? Yes, the artist should have communicated with her better, yes the artist is still in the wrong, but how do you not realize the stencil is 10 times the size of the reference photo? I also think the tattoo she ended up with was cuter than her reference photo, but that's neither here nor there-if she's not happy with it that's all that matters.
