TRP. Great video and well spotted. (The comparison between HEG and Jakob's strategy.) Part of an Olympics is also the fact that the runner actually needs to get to the final! So, they will already have run a Heat and a Semi, before the final. This tends to sort out the "strength/stamina" versus the "kickers" and often means the field is stacked with the "sit and kick" types. Without pacemakers, the situation then tends towards having a slow race with a frenzy of a finish in the last 300m. So, Jacob has realised that he cannot just leave it to others to set the pace (because it will be slow) and must ensure that the entire last 800 or 600 must be steadily increasing in pace. The "increasing" pace is what makes it work, if the athlete is good enough. In Montreal 1976 Olympics John Walker faced the same situation. He was the world mile record holder and had expected to have Filbert Bayi, a noted front runner and 1500m WR holder, set the pace. But due to boycotts, Bayi was not there. Walker had been entered in the 800m as well but failed to qualify for the final. (not fast enough) But in the 1500m final the 2nd and 3rd placegetters of the 800 were there and also other top 800m runners. With no natural pacemakers, Walker knew he would not match their finishing speed so made sure he was in front with a lap to go and simply kept winding it up from there. The 800 guys had already raced H,S,F of the 800 plus H,S of the 1500 and their finishing kicks were blunted. Their speed just couldn't match the strength stamina of Walker in front winding things up from 400 to go and never managed to pass him. The actual race was one of the slowest 1500 Olympic Finals of all time (until Centrowitz's final LOL) but he got Gold when, by all accounts, the kickers should have won. El Gerrouj the greatest 1500m runner of all time????? There is another who won and then retained his 1500m Olympic title, the only man ever to do so, as well as winning two Olympic silvers in the 800m. He also broke 6 world records in the 1500m, mile and 800m. He was the first man to break 1:43 and then first to break 1:42 and, after 40 years, still third on the all-time fastest list over 800m. You know who I'm talking about. On a separate note, there is understandably lots of enthusiasm and excitement about Jakob in the 1500m this summer and many, including TRP it seems, are already hanging the Paris gold medal around his neck. The stats and other signs are that Jakob is in superb shape again but all this hype belies one important thing...the gap between Jakob and several of the others is simply not that much. Paris is going to be very tough and whoever wins will justifiably be able, fallen runners aside, to claim the title of the world no. 1 for 2024.
It was insane how he raced. When I saw the time as he finished I was gobsmacked at his pace over the last 600 and especially the last 200. If he can maintain this level I can't see anyone beating him come the Olympics. The man is machine.
It's not only a brutal finishing 2 laps and an overall fast 3:31. He literally gave odds to other runners at the start of the race, pretty much warming up for the first 100m
Great video! It’s interesting to hear you tell the 2004 story of slowly increasing speed lap over lap. Steve Prefontaine used the same strategy in the 70’s.
It's incredible how efficient he is, he runs World Record pace making it LOOK relatively easy. If people knew just how insane ~ 60 sec 400 meter laps were.. 99.999% would never approach (1) a single 400 meter lap in 60 seconds. A single 90 second ( 6:00 mile ) 400 meter would be REALLY pushing it for even people in decent condition actually.
Jakob has never been gone, he has been focusing on that last 2 laps of 1500, maybe not been training to win every title possible, the field is getting quicker and Jakob is one step ahead and went to training he saw the danger and is young and should train that deadly finnish.
Great video! I think Ingebrigtsen is going to peak at the right time and is on an upwards trajectory where Kerr perhaps peaked a year too early and hit a ceiling.
I think it might be a world record in the Olympics. There's just so many other runners capable of running with them until the very end, it's hard to imagine that the pace won't be spicy. It's really hard to know where Kerr and neguse are right now, but it still seems like, ingebretsohn has basically said "I'm in great shape, this is probably what I'm going to do and you're not going to be able to stop me."
It has to be a race strat like this to beat Kerr, It's rare that tactics will play such a profound role, but the margins of performance between the two of them is so small that it's down to the strat now I feel. We are in for a treat.
At last year's worlds 1500m finals, he was actually running with a fever, so I'd say coming in 2nd under these surcumstances, for then to win the 5K a day or two after says it all. And if that wasn't more than enough, the drama surrounding his- and his brothers' fall-out with their dad and former coach, -that went on to coach Narve G. Nordas, was taken to a whole new level during that championship.
Jakob is the best 1500 - 5000 but he is not unbeatable and that is what makes this so exciting. This is a strange sport because I literally like all of the participants. Kerr tries to be the antagonist but I still like him lol.
i guess we all know the game plan now..2 laps to go is GO time !!🔥🔥 but there is still a month to go before the Olympics, can the other athletes prepare for this in training before the Olympics?
If he pulled a Allen Webb and threw a 53 and opened up some distance rlly quick (so long as it’s a little slower in the opening laps) I feel like he’s just fast enough that if he opens up some daylight and doesn’t let everyone else sit and kick they won’t be able to keep up. Besides Cheryot, he’s got almost 2 full seconds on everyone else
Where did you get the splits from ElG? I have the last 800m at: 14.4, 13.8, 13.4, 13.3, 12.9, 12.9, 12.7, 13.5 So he starts speeding up at 800m left and keeps it up till the last 100m when everyone breaks down, a bit different the Jakob.
They're creating buzz for the Olympics.. very smart.. maybe they get some sponsorships out of all this. In the end, sports is part of the entertainment business. Athletes that understand that get rich.
Important to note that he did this last 600 meters without much of a threat. While clearly the most talented 1,500m runner in the world. When challengers are dueling with him neck-and-neck he has given up at least twice. Will he outgrow this and/or tweak his mental preparation? If not then anyone who passes him in the last 200 meters can beat him. This is a mental lapse - he is the best runner.
I heard Jakob was injured and just recently making a come back. Being able to run and 1500 and 5000 sometimes double is not as common as people think so I gotta give him tremendous credit. Yes he is younger and has plenty of time to improve but if you look at Jim Ryan ran a mile in 3:51.3 aft 19 years old and on cinder tracks. His American record in the Jr 800 meters lasted 50 years and he ran an 8:25 two mile.
Yeah, Especially Ryan´s 2 miles time is really "impressive". Only 41 seconds behind Jakob´s WB! At age 17 Jakob ran 3:31.18 in the 1500m which time converts to 3:48 flat in the mile.
Don't say a copy, el garouj was doing it against the worlds best, Jacob was doing it against a feild he knew he could win against, the courage that is needed to do it against your real rivals is much more than when doing it against people you know you can beat, it is not the exact same and your to focused on numbers and what's written on paper than what is going through the runners mentally runnings production
Jakob will need to push the pace hard in Paris. If he runs tactically and doesn’t drop Kerr, Jakob has no chance to out kick Kerr. Jakob, Goose, Kerr and Cheriyot all have a chance at gold in the 1500m but I’m taking Kerr with his closing speed. Jakob’s best event is the 5K/10k.
Ingebritsen has a history of running amazing times in low pressure races and being out kicked in the high pressure races. He ran an amazing mile in 2022 only to be out kicked by Wightman in the WCs over 1500m. He set a massive WR in the two mile only to be out kicked by Kerr in the WCs over 1500m. Now he's run another fantastic time, he's put the pressure on himself to not let it happen for a third time in three years. However, lets be fair, he is a serial winner. It only seems to be at the WC finals he struggles over 1500m. I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes down. As a Brit, I'm rooting for Kerr but either way it will be entertaining to watch. Lets be honest, Nuguse is a 'best if the rest' kind of athlete. Don't get me wrong, he's fantastic. But he hasn't achieved the same level as Kerr and Ingebritsen, and has run an impressive but slower time than last year so that doesn't look like it's about to change.
Actually when he became nr 2 after Kerr at WC he was ill and had fever (they later found out it was covid i belive) and he still got second after Kerr.
@@jkdure Covid was in indoor WC 2022, when he came second after Tefera. He had a sore throat and small fever when beaten by Kerr, but not Covid. When Jake beat him, it was bad tactics (at least in his own opinion). Hopefully he'll stay healthy for the Olympics, and he learned in 2022 that he can't try to save energy during the 1500 final just because he is going to run the 5000 later.
@@nathanmitchell9695 Whether the national team's doctor makes up excuses for Jakob or not is of course hard to prove. But Covid in indoor WC 2022 would be shown from a test and a small fever in WC 2023 would be shown by a thermometer, so the doctor would have a bit more to go by than just Jakob complaining, and his complaining to the doctor in WC 2023 was before he lost the race to Kerr (or Jakob had to be very confident the doctor would back him up since he told the press right after the race).
Whytman and Kerr know how to beat Jakob. Jacob made the negative split run against weaker competition. The heat of an Olympic finals is a totally different ballgame. You don't win leading from gun to tape. You don't run those splits in Lane 2, either. Smart money favors the Brits for the 1,500. But REALLY, it's ANYONE's race. It will NOT be tactical. It will be beautifully competitive. ENJOY!!

El Guerrouj is absolutely a legend. But it is worth noting that he got pacemaking help from fellow countrymen in three of his big finals. Adil Kaouch in Seville 1999 and Edmonton 2001, and Youssef Baba in Sydney 2000 (a final where El Guerrouj got beaten). They both sacrificed themselves in order to increase El Guerrouj's winning chances. Jakob has never gotten that.
Yeah it’s always irked me to no end. I think it’s okay for a runner to be fantastic but also have a weak spot . Eg bolt doesn’t run well if it’s not for glory. If you’re going to beat him, you’re going to do it at a diamond league meet. Much like Guerrouj, he had the pace to win but mentally for whatever reason it wasn’t always what he was capable of. And EL was afraid of the Kenyans in Edmonton specially . Seville imo he absolutely didn’t need a pace - he never “needed” one but he took over early. I know they went 58 seconds on lap 2 which got in his head a bit with laget behind considering what happened in Sydney. The simple fact this man would reverse split the back 800m in 106 seconds boggles my mind. But yeah I agree with you. I can’t let Sydney go. The moment he had that 60 second 2nd lap, he was cooked. He could not handle the race tactics without help and struggled with pacing - atleast when he had the young superstar Ngeny on his heels. That guy made NO sense given he only started racing a couple years prior. But you could say Lagat was getting help in 2001 Brussels too. The initial “pacer” brought them through flawlessly and lelei pushed them through 1200m 2:46. My dark horse for 2024 gold is Nordas. He’s pacing himself incredibly well thus far.
How about the 17 year old Ethiopian who ran 26:37:93 and placed 4th in the Ethiopian 10k trials, thats crazy. i believe they went through the 5k mark in 13:17.

@@aagsgfd6846 it was meant to be 2024. Ingebrigtsen wasn’t running in 2004.
How do u know
@@styx85 Ingebrigtsen ran in 2024, which is what he is talking about. He made a typo saying 2004.
@@rophopkop Maybe he ran in 2004 too, its possible. Great talent
Awesome video and breakdown!! Ingebrigtsen is a 🌟!!!
Jakob even said he was very satisfied with winning the double without specific speed training. That is what he’ll be doing the coming weeks…
Cannot wait to see his fitness in the heats. Basically it will come down to the tactics of the final regardless
I bet Jakob will make the podium this year at the Olympics!
Silver or bronze as long as he doesn't get injured lol. What's with all this glazing here?
No shit
@@mattsavage9960 gold u mean jakob shit on kerr when he is 100%
😭😭😭
This was a pretty interesting video. I just wish these guys would race more often - maybe after the Olympics?
He basically just has to do two things: 1) not be out of shape, 2) make sure the last 600m is fast.
Guess what? Whatever he does in the Olympics, he is great and deserves our respect, as do all world-class athletes, not just gold medal winners.
Gold medal winners deserve more respect tho… why do people try to discredit winning when that’s the whole point of racing?
How can you respect.. DISRESPECT ...I ask you!..I will pay dinner for NASCAR HOCKER anytime.. and let Jakob watch us enjoy by the sharing..
Jakob has never been gone, he has been focusing on that last 2 laps of 1500, maybe not been training to win every title possible, the field is getting quicker and Jakob is one step ahead and went to training he saw the danger and is young and should train that deadly finnish.
He definitely gives the "most muscular" pose a unique slant.
omg LOL
Finally a person to pronounce Budapest as BudapeSHt as it's pronounced in Hungarian
The best cliffhanger! 👍
Great video! I think Ingebrigtsen is going to peak at the right time and is on an upwards trajectory where Kerr perhaps peaked a year too early and hit a ceiling.
You are a great analizer❤
Never doubted Jacob. Brilliant - nearly there
I never doubted in my king
I think it might be a world record in the Olympics. There's just so many other runners capable of running with them until the very end, it's hard to imagine that the pace won't be spicy. It's really hard to know where Kerr and neguse are right now, but it still seems like, ingebretsohn has basically said "I'm in great shape, this is probably what I'm going to do and you're not going to be able to stop me."
It has to be a race strat like this to beat Kerr, It's rare that tactics will play such a profound role, but the margins of performance between the two of them is so small that it's down to the strat now I feel. We are in for a treat.
This is one race I'll sure to watch live, even with a bad time difference
Great analysis
As fans we are lucky to see 2 great athletes in absolute top fitness going head to head.
Brilliant!!!! Lets B Real! Paris Gold falls to Jakob!!!
Jakob is the best 1500 - 5000 but he is not unbeatable and that is what makes this so exciting. This is a strange sport because I literally like all of the participants. Kerr tries to be the antagonist but I still like him lol.
This is bouta be a wild race
Without That Red Arrow to point out where Jakob was in the picture, id never know where hed be!!
Thanks for the red arrow Andrew 🎉🎉
i guess we all know the game plan now..2 laps to go is GO time !!🔥🔥 but there is still a month to go before the Olympics, can the other athletes prepare for this in training before the Olympics?
If he pulled a Allen Webb and threw a 53 and opened up some distance rlly quick (so long as it’s a little slower in the opening laps) I feel like he’s just fast enough that if he opens up some daylight and doesn’t let everyone else sit and kick they won’t be able to keep up. Besides Cheryot, he’s got almost 2 full seconds on everyone else
I’m even looking forward to the trash-talking in Paris. Go Ingebretson! Btw, still hoping for a Beatrice Chebet video.
I wonder if Kerr is aware of this strategy
Jakob is bouta start cookin'
Where did you get the splits from ElG? I have the last 800m at:
14.4, 13.8, 13.4, 13.3, 12.9, 12.9, 12.7, 13.5
So he starts speeding up at 800m left and keeps it up till the last 100m when everyone breaks down, a bit different the Jakob.
Where do you get the exact splits from for each 100m? Thanks.
I was wondering when you were going to upload a video about his 2024 euro 1500m race. He ran the last 700m or so ahead of WR pace
it was quite literally him just time trialing his ability to kick or run faster near the last 2 laps, it was awesome to see him "practicing".
Maybe his injury was due to adding more sprints to his training. Something he needed 😅 This might also increase risk of injury before Olympics
They trash talked him and he woke up , I think Kerr is in trouble and could have to eat his own words.
They're creating buzz for the Olympics.. very smart.. maybe they get some sponsorships out of all this. In the end, sports is part of the entertainment business. Athletes that understand that get rich.
Little typo at 5:55; I think it's 2024. Right? Or am I now much younger than I thought?
Nice video. The bullheads in my area taste really good.
Crazy
At age 17 Jakob ran 3:31.18 in the 1500m which time converts to 3:48 flat in the mile.
................31 seconds...........
Where's that JoKerr at?
hes scared
In a race slower than 3:30 I think Kerr or Whightman take it. Jakob should look to do a 3:27-3:28. 3:29 he has proven he can’t win in.
he can win 3.30 if hes 100%
He should have waited to unveil the strategy till the Olympics. It’s going to be awesome!
I don’t think he has peaked! I think he could be hard to beat!
@jkdure did he though? Or did he just say that to the press to save face? Idk man.
Goat fr
I couldn't run 50 yards at that pace..,..
ENJOY!!
Jacob by a mile😊
Can’t wait to see him race in Paris
How did he do that???
Will we get an Olympic lineup at Monaco 1500?
Fans are in for a treat, whoever wins.
If Kerr wins, I am not in for a treat. I really hate that guy. Just by looking at him.
🙂😎🥳🥸I'm excited for Jakob Ingebrightsen and I'm also excited about future track stars such as Camden Capehart, Dylan Randall, and Cole Beck🙂😎🥳 Look these guys up
His European Championships win was impressive, but it was two seconds slower that the races he lost against the two British athletes.
Josh Kerr, did what he said he was going to do a year ago!
how hes not won olimpic gold
It will be two competing tactics but given Kerr 2 Mile time I think he has the strength to stay with Jacob it will be close!
I'm looking forward to Monoco , how fast will Jacob run ?? .... I'm saying he will break 3:27 and set a new European Record .
I believe Jacob will Win the 1500 and 5000 Olympic Titles ... under 3:28 for the Olympic Final
What was Jakobs last 800m?
Can’t tell from this data. Last 600m seems to be 1:21.4 though.
@@cyrilandersongotcha, yeah he was 1:36.05 through 700 which is 1:49.8 pace so impressive but not unbelievable for him
I wish asbel kiprop is running,I still believe he is the goat of 1500m
All defeats are behind you
How about the 17 year old Ethiopian who ran 26:37:93 and placed 4th in the Ethiopian 10k trials, thats crazy. i believe they went through the 5k mark in 13:17.
That’s a final 400m in around 53.3! That’s impressive without his progression.
When I first saw him as a 16 year old, I thought: "Geez, I hope he doesn't burn out." Kind of a wonder, he is.
