Sadly I didn't follow step #1 and have been unable to train properly in the last half year! RESPECT STEP #1 boys: Do not get injured! 🙏
And girls 😁
Same here
@@lady0shady Of course, forgive me 😬
My first mistake in the gym 😅
Great video Jonne with many good takeaways! Sorry to hear about your knee not getting better being injured and not being able to do what you love is the worst so I feel your frustration and hope it will soon get better!
Seeing both of you in the comments of each other channels is like cherry on top after watching the video😌
Thanks Göran :) !
Wow that inspired me a lot. There are basically no limits if you have a consistent and healthy training. Thanks a lot
I'm so glad I discovered your channel this year. Keep going like that and I'm sure 2023 will be a great year for you and your channel. Looking forward to your next videos!
I think this is a perfect conclusion of a sustainable training journey!! Keep up the good work, and speedy recovery
Love this guy...... 2023 is gonna be a new year, new challenges..cant wait..❤️🇨🇦
What I learned in 2022 is that watching your TH-cam videos motivates me :)) Thank you for the content in 2022 !!! Looking forward to the next update about the swimming in cold water
I am always so blown away by the quality of your videos. Your filmmaking and editing (and writing, too) are always so wonderfully entertaining. I first marvel at how densely packed the video is, and then I get frustrated that you don’t have more views/subscribers (as well as that you don’t make more scenic or purely hiking videos lol), and then I try to absorb everything I just ‘learned’.
Cheers.
The art of resilience. Great freaking book and Ross is a BEAST.
Keep up the great work dude!
Hey, first of all: Congrats on all your progress this year and I hope you can push this channel more and more (and yourself). You are really inspiring to go further and further with training and to try out a lot of things. Keep going :)
To answer your question about what we are doing: I trained about 300 hours this year. I mainly lift weights in the gym (4-5 Times a week, 1 hour each). I progressed a lot in the 3 "main lifts" (Deadlift, Squat, Benchpress) and I am proud of what I was able to achieve. Definitely working on improving that next year. I also trained for a marathon at the start of the year but was not motivated enough to actually do it, running is not that fun for me so its always a mindgame to train hard. Did a halfmarathon and thats it. Maybe I will start running again, who knows. I hike a lot (austria so a lot of mountains) and want to improve in that sport aswell, as you said, maybe a 8000 meter peak is possible in the future if thats my goal. I did try climbing some weeks ago and it was fun, maybe I start that on the side just to hang out with friends. But I would need to invest in some proper gear, so still thinking about that (Would need 200-300€). I also started rowing at the gym, thats fun. Maybe I incorporate that into my power lifting as cardio sessions.
If you ever need motivation and discipline: Read "Cant hurt me" from david goggins. That man is a beast, and he shows that you can achieve everything if you set your mind to it.
Thanks for all the motivation and keep up the good work!
Maybe a competition like Hyrox could be something for you 😊 I‘m also training for that event next year
I'm very much a "want to do all" sports person. I'll keep it that way for 2023! Curious to add cross country skiing to the list so I will look for some guides tours :)
As always great and very inspiring video, Jonne💪I discovered your channel in 2022 and then binge watched all videos and some of them several times. And because of you, your incredible personality and you videos I started my running routine with goal to hit marathon in 2023😃So thank you a lot! Get recovered soon and keep your knees healthy♥️
Awesome! Thanks so much for your continued support :)
Greetings from Melbourne, Australia. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. Thanks for sharing.
Loved this video Jonne - thanks for reflecting back on your year and sharing your advice.
Wishing you well with your injuries - you will come back with knowledge and exercises to make you stronger 💪
Found your channel a few months back currently on my fitness journey in the last 1.5 years ive lost 117lbs and gained a lot of muscle. The biggest thing ive learned other than programming, diet, exercise selection etc. is knowing when to take it easy. I am super bad at it and always want to do more.
Also started climbing in 2022, one of the most enjoyable sports I’ve done. The feeling of accomplishment is so satisfying. 😂🎉 i would probably go back to running and swimming in 2023!
sports physiotherapist concurs! hear hear! consistency is king, consistency trough years is caesar.
yesterday broke 600ah (annual hours) for this calendar year. according to strava. Had to take extra time to recover from ironman as my body went to almost full tilt seizure after 2 weeks almmost complitely off after ironman. too drastic drop in physical load and chronic sleep depravation during the peak training phase.... bad combination, but now is very awarding to see 10% progression weekly on aaerobic efficiency in indoor cycling... hope it transfers to runniing too as i get to run more in controleld enviroments (3mths treadmill season ahead)... but at the moment i will continue base training (+85% @ way below ventilatory/lactate truningpoint 1) and then longer threshold sesions or high torque and power production work at the gym...
Great video, so many points I can identify with. For me especially the notion of not getting injured / doing too much has proved to be so important. Some of my running goals i could not achieve since I did too much in February and it took many months to get back to fitness.
The specific lesson of 2022 is to not go ski touring the day after a 30km run... rest and recovery is important.
Thanks for sharing! Sorry to hear your injury is still giving you a hard time. I'd love to see some climbing videos in 2023 :) Wishing you the best in 2023
Noe Joke, you are one of the best people I've met on the internet so far ! Ty for being such a great gift to me and the world you Unlazy freaker - hahaha ! Wish you continued joy and success Jonne ❤!
I learned to appreciate the process. In 2022 I was so into the 20:00 5k run, and I started very well, with 20:55 in April. But the entire year on was a journey from that goal, rather than towards that goal. So the most of the year I was frustrated, plus I got an injury in July, so it was the year of frustration. I had to learn to just enjoy the running itself rather than the numbers, because I couldn't even run for few months because of the injury. And I realized that I can't control the numbers and trying to do so gives me is a frustration instead of joy of doing something good to my body. As you said, there are so many variables, it really feels like having no control at all on the result of the race.
Been with you a while now, Joanne, and I'm so stoked to see these sponsors!!! You deserve it and your videos are some of my favorites on TH-cam
Jonne, this is one of my favorite channels. The content is great and the humor you add makes it excellent. Keep it up! You are killing it.
Loved this one, mate! Looking forward to 2023!
Wisdom is simple, and so is the best advice. Thank you for your honest suggestions and annual review of your training!
Congrats on everything you’ve achieved and everything you’ve failed at! Because that just shows that you’ve experimented beyond your boundaries of comfort or ability. Personally, I wanted to do several trail races this year and just didn’t. But now I’m training very consistently for a marathon next year. And my goal is not to finish the marathon, but rather to become a runner. Someone who goes out and actually runs for fun. Thank you for all your insight and motivation! It really helps!
Not getting injured and focusing on the basics where the big two this year for me. It is incredible what one can achieve with consistency while avoiding injury. Building a strong foundation at the moment to do some races beginning of 2023!
I see so much of myself in you. I also would like to do everything but settled for triathlon and 3 sports. Consistency is really the key and what I struggle with most while having little children and work and stuff. But with the right goal and motivation everything is doable. I like that you always try yourself and see what happens after. That is a very good trait to have. Cheers Mate looking forward to 2023
I learned a heard lesson that all those "boring" deep muscle exercises like eg pilates are fundamental for the training and avoiding them = injuries (back, knee etc).
Learning point #1... I've been there too many times and every single time it has been because of learning point #2. You're spot on!
In 2022 I learned I need more of your videos, it doesn’t matter if there less high quality, I just need to see your content more frequently 😂
Step 1 is huge!! The biggest risk factor for injury as well is being previously injured in the past year! Love your insights as always 👏🏼
I love the honesty in this video and I can see your frustration when you talk about your injury, I feel you. A hip injury kept me out of training in April and May this year, and I learned the importance of resting. Now I still deal with hip pain when I run, I believe this pain will never go away.
I am glad I discovered your channel, your videos are honest and reliable, and you are very creative.
Your eye for editing and storytelling keeps getting better and better, i loved this video. That shot right at the end with the "damn.." was suuuper nicely executed 🤩 Bring on 2023
Sorry to hear about your injury. I'm just coming back from 4 months out after suffering a stress fracture. It's horrible being out but makes you appreciate training when you get back and there's always a good lesson there to avoid getting injured again. Good luck with the recovery and great video as always.
Love your vids man! Keep up the amazing work
Lovely video. Being injured is definetly the worst that can happen to one, but when you're ready to get back you'll notice throughout years how you suddenly think "man, i'm so glad that i'm able to do this again". So take your time to heal up properly and then get back to do what you love!
Thank you for the consistent and high quality videos, always a pleasure to watch. For myself, I did my first two half and one full marathon. The 42 km gave me a knee injury (2 months ago now), but that is also what pushed me into the gym. Anyway, have a goal of doing another one in 2023, this time without getting injured :)
Awesome video and agree about the adaptability, how about some video's about the adaptiveness of our body to the stresses/training we put it through?
Like what it does to basic functions in our body. Heart, lung, blood, muscles, ligaments, joints, etc.
It really resonates with me. Also some things that I learned this year in sports:
1. Some are just gifted. They can start running after they turn 30 y.o and push it hard. No injuries after all. Good genes. Rest of us need to adapt slowly, or should I say, with patience. We should rest after hard workouts until we recover trully. And then Yes, we can achive big goals.
2. Small things matter. Yoga, flexibility, core workouts.. when aded to another sport, they make you less prone to injuries.
3. Knowing your flaws, things that limits you. Improve it, but don't overdo it.
Great video. I suppose you feel like a Husky that is not allowed to run for a long time and you kinda 'die inside'. Im also injured so i feel you. Hope you'll be better soon!
I learned I will continue to watch you in 2023. Great content.
Love what you do and your attitude to life. Thank you. 💪🙏🏽
absolute great video! It took me a long way but I totally agree to your conclusions
Great Video. Super inspiring!
In 2022 I started training jiu jitsu which was something completely different and it's been incredibly rewarding. I also started to play tennis again after 5 years. I used to play between the ages of 6 and 17 but stopped and picking it up again at 22 has also been super fun.
I would love to try climbing and trail running. I live in South Africa and I'm sure there are some great places to do those sports.
Not sure where you live but the winter.trails. around saariselka are great.
They have tracks for fat bikes and you can't imagine how much fun fatbiking is on tracks made for it!
This will probably make me go back there!
I learned that without an end goal, I have a very hard time training. I ran my first half marathon and training prior to the race was great! After, it all went away. My plan for 2023 is to sign up for a few more events spread out throughout the year to keep me motivated to train.
You’re an inspiration!
Awesome to hear that, thanks :) !
Another excellent video. Love love love!
Heya, yet another great vid !
Can you make another video about books that you've read that you consider influential to your understanding of training?
I injured my knee years ago and while it slowly healed it would become inflamed after running and wasn't very comfortable squatting but a few sessions with a tens machine transformed it for me, no more inflammation, rarely sore any more. Heartily recommend if you have niggles that aren't clearing as it's difficult to do any additional damage with a tens.
Thank you for your video, you are a great inspiration! Keep up the good work!
You're very inspiring. I love every video you make. Please keep up the good work!
Don't stop if you're injured. Just change volume, intensity or modality if you can. If you stop, your muscle resilience goes down meaning you can't stress the muscle that much as you used to, and you get injured again. It's a cycle.
And what a great evidence and science based video! No bullshit magic things that are the best... Keep it simple.
what I learned in 2022: Ottilie rocks!!! :) (and so do u)
crocodile rock!!
Love the content! Keep it up!
Appreciate it!
In 2022 I managed to keep up with my mental health and since a month and a half I've started lifting weights again after a loooooong stop. This is definitely the form of sport I love the most, it's fun for me. But I also enjoyed playing basketball a lot and as soon as the winter is passing away I'm planning on getting back on the court. (I can only play outside and also I have to manage my time because of university)
Something I learned. When in sports something seems difficult at first (let's say your first 10k run or maybe swimming for a longer time). Just see how far you get and keep on going. It is all possible
Great points and I agree on all of them.
I learned in 2023 that with high goals even if you miss you have make it far higher than most will ever get.
Same I was injured as well cause I jumped up with my weekly milage. Now I Had my First painfree session in over 2 months. I'll train smarter now lol
this is great advice. needed this
i've learned in 2022 that the most important thing i need to throw down a cliff and than burry alive is my ego. Doing the most runs easy is boring BUT it's the only way to progress healthy.
I use heart rate zones for working out nowdays and i can recommend it to everybody - to either check if you run in the right intensities OR to learn doing so. (i myself am still in the learning group, but maybe one day i'll lvl up to those who only check after training if everything went well ;) )
I ran a 50 mile trail run this weekend... My bib number was 532!
Always enjoy your videos, looking forward to more in the new year :))
I ran my first trail 100k this year :)
[and you kinda helped with the motivation for that btw, so thanks]
Amazing video!! Hope you recover soon from the injure. Be patient with yourself, and engage in other ways of sports that help you to explore your body in other ways (such flexibility, stretching, and other challenges such as getting a skill or even, how to recover better!)
Have a great new year! :D
So true, and respect for those hours. What did I learn? Well, I am Lazy, the older you are the harder its to get back, and I do miss box training. Good thing is: my wife and i got Mountainbikes and are going to do a bit more of cycling, look forward what you are going to be up to 2023. thanks for the content, keep up the great work, cheers and happy holidays.
You are literally the best in all of youtube
Consistent work, nice 👌👌
Thank you 🙌
Smooth sponsorship transition. I like how you implemented that :)
Thanks for the content!
My pleasure! :)
I learned I was more cold tolerant as well. Froze my ass off last winter working in 4 ft of snow and rain. Ordered a bib to deal with it, now I haven't worn it yet this winter because it's too warm.
Can u make a video about ur rehab and your injury? I am struggling with a knee Injury since... a long time. Haven't been running since 1 1/2 years.
Totally agree with the idea of opportunity cost per sport. I’ve been doing 2 workouts a day, 6 days a week, for the past 7 months. It wasn’t until I cut out the 4th sport that I saw real gains in the other disciplines.
I love your videos!!!
In 2022 I learned #1 big time: don’t get injured. Would love to see some videos focused on injuries in endurance sports, and how to avoid them.
Guy from the future here - learnt in 2023 that Unlazy Way will reach 1 milllion subscribers 💥
Doc Brown helped me to come back and watch some of this boomer fitness philosophies =)
Fantastic video
Every time I get injured it seems to take 3 month off my training but once the pain is gone I can catch up pretty quick.
Great piece of content
First of all i learned about this awesome channel and this awesome dude Jonne! Absolutly my favorit site of all!
2022 was my year to try endurance sport. Did my first marathon (3:15) my first triatlon olympic (3:58) and my first ultra 50k (4:05) and I just want more!
Thank you for the greatest content.
Jonas Thomsen from Denmark
Great video!
I have learned that your body needs a lot of time to restore, having gone through a stomach surgery i see now that i was way too optimistic about training again and running a marathon which was my goal for 2022, i will be giving it more time and slowly start building up to reach my goal instead.
In 2022 i learned to watch ur videos and it's awesome
I am following step 1 religiously as a returner to sport after 10 or so years. Man it’s slow progress and I get frustrated with it, but 10 years ago I stopped because of keeping injuring myself. So not this time!
You should try a cryo chamber as a recovery sometime
My number #1 problem in life is I don't have enough time to master all the sports I want to do. Such a relatable problem! Thanks for the video man, great content
keep it up!
Meditation is the way to go for me. Helping me be disciplined and happy in my whole life
I learned fun and get better healthy are most important things motivating do sports!
Emotions are also connected to injury. Look into those feelings which are unexpressed, allow them to flow and the injury might go away sooner then you think
Interesting take
@@Dinckelburg Every tension, blocked energy in the body has to do with mental blockages/emotional patterns. The body stores and is an immediate mirror of your past
You should start getting more into xc skiing at this point, the training you're doing is basically the same as for skiing
Dude, I am dying to know what the thing you have for Rubik's cubes is all about?
You should try martial arts like judo or jiu-jitsu 😁
I am a simple man. I see a sponsor over here I put a like! :D
like watching the vlog, this one reminds much of Peter McKinnon though :D
I messed up rule one and have been off for 5 months 😑
Ah… love this 👍
I learned how to damage my knee this year. ;) good luck with your knees
