I was overweight, I had never trained in my life but a year ago a good friend of mine sent me this video and it motivated me to start swimming, now I've lost 45 pounds and today I swam 5 Km in 2 hours 30 minutes.

That moment he described at 2:00 just happend to me after 3 months of struggling with swimming, struggling with my breathing and hardly making 10 laps. in one of the sessions, suddenly, it 'clicked'. just like that. In the middle of a stroke i suddenly felt completely relaxed, i was floating on top of the water. And i swam 10,15,20 laps, by that point i stopped counting and just swam. The pool felt so short all of a sudden. It was one of the best moments I've ever had in sports.
if you're a beginner swimmer and you're struggling with swimming as well, just KEEP AT IT. Just keep going, even if you feel like you're declining (the workout before that one was my worst ever, i stopped it in the middle). It will click for you.

I started swimming last year. I'm moving around a lot and not always had pool access so it's not been steady progress. you have different videos explaining the breathing to you on here but one really clicked, and after a frustrating few swims recently (stopping after two laps nearly every time, struggling with breathing, exhausted so quickly) it kinda clicked and felt so smooth and easy with front crawl/freestyle. I basically couldn't nail down exhaling every time my head went into the water, no matter the stroke. Great feeling uh!

Yes same for me!!! I once watched a utube vid and someone said, “you can walk for miles and not get out of breath?” Well swimming is the same. You just have to relax and then you can go and go and go. This revelation helped me so much and I went from 100-200m to 1000m/1200m

I'm not experienced in thriatlon, but I'm a swimmer, and if I could give you any advice it would be to focus on your technique.
I've seen a lot of people preparing for thriatlons or open water swims who learn a bit of technique and then go into practicing resistance, doing long ass workouts, etc, thinking that is the most important thing. But it is actually the opposite, because if you are preparing for an ironman you ALREADY HAVE the resistance to swim thousands of meters, you just gotta learn how. Learn a proper freestyle technique that empowers your efficiency and glide, and get rid of any major mistakes, like a straight arm out of the water, a sloppy kick or catch up, breathing with your head up, etc, because these things are not only going to make it harder for you but also slow you down. Yeah you can get used to it, a lot of people do, but it is holding them back, they could swim faster and easier at the same time without improving their conditioning even a little bit.
When you have a good technique, now start climbing up with the distance and you will be surprised, you'll end your practice and be like "was that really 6400m? It didn't feel like much! ".
This said, I have mad respect for anyone who dares challenge an Iron Man, because I don't think I would :). Good luck man, I'm sure you'll crush it!!!

The only thing that discourage me from doing a triathlon is swimming in open waters, I have a huge fear. In the pool, I was able to work myself up to 4 miles but definitely would be only able to do like 100m in open water and then I'd panic XD

Impressive how you corrected your technique that well without a coach. In the beginning I saw your body was moving sideways too much, but in the end it looked pretty damn good! I am saying this as an old competitive swimmer

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Do you know where can I learn something similiar about running technique? That would help to analyze what you're doing good/wrong and what should be improved?

First and last time I put one on (kindly loaned to me) no one told me the suit zipped at the back. I came out walking like Mr. Staypufft from Ghostbusters! Didn't have time to fight with it again so just said bollx, it'll have to do.

Omg this video is so relatable for me haha I've been preparing for swimming the solent! I also had to start practicing in the cold open water due to lockdowns and your first struggle with wrangling yourself into a wet suit was the same for me 😂 Even that first realisation that you float so easily too 🤣😂

You have great potential too and discipline is a habit, start simple, go for a little run, little swim and don’t put pressure on you, enjoy the process and you will find freedom in discipline. Wish you all the best :)

This is hilarious, .. I appreciate the video style. Also kind of reminds me of my experimental self. I also have a tendency to overdue and get overtrained. Nursing some tendinitis form rock climbing at the moment. Amped on building up my trail running and considering building swimming as well. I think this video has motivated me to hit some open lake water for the rest of the summer.

Please use less effects that just reduce the resolution, I much rather prefer watching 1080p Vids :)
