Such a beast of a mixer. Finally buying mine this week and I can’t WAIT to lose myself in learning how to use it.
1.3 firmware adds post fader software effects and now make this a beast of a mixer!
I'm still holding onto my money until the Xone:96 comes out, especially because it comes with a stock Innofader!
Mojaxx, you definitely gotta do a review on that mixer once you've had some time with it!
Choosing between this and the Reloop Elite. Would love to see you do a review on that.
Great review. This is a beast of a mixer. I love the feel of the s9 but this thing is next level
This is an old comment, but then along came the DJM-S11 to blow the Rane 72 out of the water. Better touchscreen, 4 deck access, familiar layout just like the S9, and with just enough features to keep you interested, but not overwhelm you. I love my S11 but I have a feeling it's not going to be the king of the hill very long. Soon Pioneer will release a Serato DVS battle mixer with Stems access inborn on the hardware. BTW as a tech tip for anyone readying, you don't have to give up a pad mode to use Serato Stems with your S11. I midi mapped it to the hot cue pad user mode and it works great. I keep to keep my Slicer and Loop Roll pad modes easy!
Nice review. I’m in the market for a new mixer. Might take a shot on this. I’m still using my djm 400!
All I have to say is I LOVE my 72 it is everything I needed from a dj mixer.
Great. So many moves are possible. Very nice dj mixer. 😻✨🎛️🎹🎶🪓
Proper review. Cheers. Maybe one day I’ll get to touch one!
Sheesh... Lots going on.
Such a nice looking mixer, so many options!
did they ever fix the dialing in the bpm to a specific value?
Thanks Chris!
Nice review and on point. Would have liked to hear your opinion regarding current s9 owners and if it’s worth upgrading to the 72.
I'm new to my seventy two, had it since Dec 2019, but just now having the chance to spend some time on it. My issue is with the serato echo out efx. Once I engage the efx, the tempo is off in the headphones. What's playing in the headphones is ahead of the main output timing. Also when I return to the available deck the headphones are ahead of the main output's timing. I haven't had this problem with any controller. Any advice? Is this whet you're referring to with the post-fader flaw?
Wanna say I appreciate what you’re doing for the Dj community.. I just got my 72 with Denon sc5000m, my issue is I’m not getting ANY sound not even in the headphones, I’ve installed the updates on All my equipment & still nothing. Any help is much appreciated 🙏🏾
I have to agree that the newer Rane mixers seems like the quality just isn't there. From the nobs to the fader itself. But I am comparing the 61,62 to the 56 and 57. And if you look up part numbers for the faders, the 57 fader is different from the 61 and 62. I had a Rane 61 and hated it, and I had the 56 and 57 in the past. Hopefully the 72 is made a but better, and the fader has a bit more sharper of a cut in it like the 57 did.
i hear you. 57 best fader i've ever touched. i would put inno-fader a close 2nd, then the s9 Magvel. thats my top 3!
Yeah the 57 fader is by far my favorite.
That’s because the 61 was garbage. The worst mixer rane ever made.
Indeed.
don't the rane 12's need to be used with a mixer that has a sound card?
Dope review! can you loop external audio through the mic inputs? like if I say something can I loop it and manipulate it with the pads?
What a deep controller!
No send and returns but could you cheat using one of the outputs or session in and/or the switchable mic/line inputs? Haven't seen anyone demo those features yet, using a drum machine or bass synth or looper/sampler could be cool if it works
If I wanted to start off learning on vinyl only without DVS,but eventually move to a DVS workflow, would this mixer be good for that?
How do you activate silent cue on the 72? please help if you can..Thank you.
Can you do tutorial how to cue point loop with one button like my Numark NS7-2?
After using this mixer for a couple of months, the X-Fader seemed to get “stiffer” over time. I loosened the screw completely and the fader still felt “heavy”. Ultimately, I swapped one of the up faders to resolve the issue. Still not real happy about doing it because now, 1 of my up faders feels “funny”. It’s feels as if the rails are “dry” b.u.t. I’ve been told not to oil them. It’s only a big deal if you’re into scratching (which I am) and very frustrating to drop $2000.00 on a mixer that is otherwise great in every aspect.
Can you do the loop Roll Effect with this mixer by turning the filter knob
Hello Mojaxx, what do DJs use the session I/O and auxillary inputs for? Could you use it like an effects loop? or with a sampler like the Pioneer DJS1000?
Kinda disappointed for getting this and try to replace my NS7-2 it just doesn’t have the functionality of the cue options of the NS7-2. Hitting that cue point on the fly to make it loop at the same time is a big deal Rane needs to fix this or can you tell me if there’s a hot key in the keyboard to do this?
I got two mates who bought this mixer and they both are in the shop getting fixed trying to find faults
what can the mixer do straight of the box without a computer. can it store loops/samples? how many? what can the performance pads do without a computer?
I don't use Serato but this is a small very interesting mixer. I sometimes forget that there is also a lot of great stuff beside the Pioneer equipment. Btw...thanks for the good videos. You guys make a great job.
So the RANE 72 is an updated version of the " PIONEER DJM 909" 😅
MJ is the don!
I find the possibilities on the 72 way to overwhelming from a first impression standpoint. The new 70 seems to be shrunken down at the right places. Somehow the Reloop Elite speaks more to me. What do you guys think?!
Hello,
Is it possible to connect the Rane Twelve to the new XDJ-XZ controller?
I searched a lot for the reponce but I can't find it on the internet.
thanks in advance
It should be if the 12’s have rca outputs. I checked some pictures on google but couldn’t find any showing the back of the unit.
Hello, could I use this mixer with the denon sc5000m's usb plugged into the rane usb hub, would that transfer the bpm information to the mixer?
Thanx
No I don’t think so .
I believe in my heart and soul that Pioneer DJ will come out with a DEDICATED battle mixer for Rekordbox that will compete with the Rane Seventy-Two...
The 72 doesnt need returns. Between the DJ software efx and on board mixer efx you dont need external processing. Why are you complicating djing?
Damn...those plastic pots killed it for me. Already got one mixer with plastic pots, traktor Z2, don't want another one. Looks like I'll be going after the S9.
Mehhh my Pioneer DJM S9 does the job...I feel like I need a Masters in mechanical engineering just looking at the 72
Yagga Radio Agreed. When I look at it, I see it as a 2 channel club mixer as opposed to a battle mixer. A true battle mixer needs to have simple layout that's not to intimidating, in my opinion...
Lol
The lack of audio based beat detection seems like a seriously glaring omission.
I realize I am kind of off topic but does anybody know a good website to watch new series online ?
@Giovanni Ryder try Flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Giovanni Ryder i use FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
@Giovanni Ryder i watch on Flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
Still no post fader foot switch echo. Love this mixer but the foot switch was my main draw to this unit
TRAVIS HICKOK You can use the footswitch to turn on the Flex FX, which are post fader. It works fine, was the first thing I tried with the footswitch.
Great mixer, but two dj's and two laptops and a smooth swap over is just a pipe dream. Either i am not doing it correctly or it does not work!
Yup, You're doing it wrong
Or when the screen freezes 100x a night
the they the display crashed..youre fucked up !!
.
The screen is too ridiculously small, we are in 21th century! Look at this big ugly black frame around it... it’s iPhone3 screen generation here... komaaan and latency...
1080p ;-)
The S9 has a great layout but the builtin sound card sounds like crap compared to the DJM900 NXS2! In fact it's sound output is absolute garbage. This however won't be noticed for people connecting the DJM-S9 to there richer sounds Hi-Fi setup! Who remembers the DJM-600? it sounds like that! I don't understand the reason behind putting a crap SC in a otherwise great battle mixer?
