  • Build your own wind turbine and never pay for electricity again. Sounds too good to be true. Thats because it is. Watch me fail to test my wind turbine, because god turned off the wind for a few weeks.

Put it on a high pole and attach it to highest spot on your roof, and then wait for a windy day.
Instead of using a fan type windmill, you could try a drumbowl style windmill to better accomodate turbulent air flow.

Must build a tower, if your town allows such structure...

The tower for a wind turbine is half of the engineering challenge. I bought a 400 watt horizontal axis machine some years back for a cabin in the woods. Key word is 'woods'. Until it is above the trees and in clear air it can't fulfill its potential. It would work on a boat, or in a field, but thats not where I need it. Your blades look fantastic. Great use for hover board drives.

Greetings neighbour country :D Im from Czechia. Thank you so much for sharing. I always wanted to have a wind turbine but just like this video proves only big wind turbines are worth it.

Using modeling technic for lightweight and economical wings, perfect idea, thanks for that! Btw, which speadsheet you are using for calculating chord lenght and angle of attack values?

The area of disturbed air flow is usally much longer than the hight of the object. You had significant effects of the surrounding objects in all shown locations. I would really like to see results in better location. This project is really impressive.

You should try a VAWT, with the coils and magnets on the outer rim. I don't believe taking power from the shaft is the way to go in real world DIY builds.
If the rate of the changing magnetic field is one of the multipliers; then... think low torque, and high speed. Therefore, having the coils and magnets on the outer rim of a VAWT.

what if u use big gear to drive motor with small gear isnt it more efficient on low air speed?

This could be used to charge an (cargo) e bike. I tested a 100W flexible solar panel and it produced 70W in full sunshine. Looks very cool but not very practical since one small shadow will let the mppt charge controller start to ramp up from the beginning. So its only usefull if you take a break.
So anyways great project, thank you for sharing and I am curious to see how it will perform with 10m/s of wind. I think 750W should be possible but anything above 250W would be great :)

Can't you put it atop a 10 meter pole stabilized by guide wires?

5 blades will make the wind turbine turn at lower wind speeds, maybe that would help ?

4:05 It's probably a bad idea to use a torch here. The neodymium magnets inside this piece lose part of their strength if you go above 80°C.
