A jam session. Not meant to be released. I guess somewhere along the engineer decided to started recording it, that's why the song appears to not have a beginning. Once Elvis caught a groove, he kept going, as the 9 min release attest to. It never becomes boring though, due to Elvis' vocal gymnastics. Upbeat, I like it.

A jam session as others have commented, as apparently he needed a long time to get going in a record session. Good as it is, I have edited for my personal use the song to 3.20 with instrumental fade in and fade out with a shout from Elvis near the end 'go'. - makes more of a complete recording to my ears.

------- Studio just messing around. It's another song that was not intended to be released, just a jam session in between songs, yet RCA released it. I think if he knew they were going to do that, he would have polished this up a lot more. Listening to this song is like joining a conversation already in progress. Seems to be lacking proper intro & ending.

I've always liked this song a lot, although I'm not a huge Dylan fan (you either are or you aren't, I think). Love his songwriting ability, not so much his singing.
I don't think Elvis knew all the words and was just having a good time. And while I really like Waylon Jennings version, I wish Elvis had recorded the song for release with all the verses, because I love the bluesy spin he put on it.
Here are the full lyrics, if you're interested:
Ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
    Like you never did before
Ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
When the rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason why I'm traveling on
Don't think twice, it's all right
Walking down the long and lonesome road, gal
    Where I'm bound, I can't tell
Goodbye's too good a word, gal
So I'll just say "Fare thee well"
Well, I ain't saying you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just sort of wasted my precious time
Don't think twice, it's all right
Ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
    The light I never known
Ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was something you could do or say
To make me change my mind and stay
You never did too much talking anyway
Don't think twice, it's all right
Ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
    It don't matter anyhow
Ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don't know by now
I'm a-thinking and a-wondering on the way down the road
    I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I gave her my heart but she wanted my soul
Don't think twice, it's all right
