I saw this video and had to watch it several times more in succession to confirm what I was seeing. Yes...this is my bike, I owned it through the 1980's, restored it back to showroom condition and sold it the following year in '88 for reasons of necessity. I have regretted that decision ever since...most fun bike that I owned.
+Ken Jarabek No way, What makes you think it was yours? Its certainly possible. It had no registration when I bought it so I don't know where it came from. Do tell, you have my attention :)
I bought one one of these new in 1977..It was my second full size bike. The thing was a beast with an excellent suspensionThe sales material And magazines claimed it would do a 12.8quarter mile, box stock.Inever toolkit to a strip, but it was wicked fast.I rode that thing for two years as my only transportation. It was fairly comfortable and completely reliable. My first wife made me sell,itI still regret it.
+Scott Gibson I still have it, I've put an original seat on it, and new set of rust free pipes, side covers, and a set of period vedder hard bags. I'll have to do an update soon. I love it
...cont. I lived in Prince George, B.C. Canada when I owned it during the time period of 1986 and sold it in Victoria, B.C. Canada in 1988. This bit of info may help in your history search of the bike...
+Ken Jarabek Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you, life got very busy for a while and I just finally found time to go into the garage and have a peak at the bike. I couldn't see any evidence of a dent on the airbox, however the right side foot peg did look a little out of whack as you suggested it might. The seat pan was rusted beyond use when I got it, and I didn't care for the look so I turfed it after I bought the bike. The chain guide and side covers were missing. I've been riding it for a couple years now and love it, however one thing that still doesn't add up. When I was getting papers for it ICBC had no record of it ever having been registered in BC before. If you owned it, and had in insured in BC it should have shown up in their records. Next time I have a chance I'll do an update video so you can see how it looks now that its mostly all fixed up.
That is extremely strange that no previous registration shows up especially with the info that I have given you about when and where I owned it and sold it, wonder if it was victim to theft at one time and re-registered with a slight number modification? That is correct about the seat pan being rotten...friend of mine repaired it with what was there. From the detail that I can make out in the video after watching it multiple, multiple times, I know that was my bike as I did a rebuild on it shortly after I purchased it. Original paint was more red with factory strip theme on the tank and tail piece. Would be interested to know what part of the country you are located in. You can contact me directly by the email address that I provided in previous correspondence...
Man I have a 82 seca xj750r when I got it I pulled the carbs and bench synced them. That's been over a year ago. Now my bike keeps fouling spark plugs. Just eating them.. I'm thinking the idle screws may have moved from vibration. Can't really think of anything else. Haven't pulled them yet.
Jrpg1038922Is it using oil? Bench syncing is usually just to get it running. You should really sync them properly with a carb sync tool to get it running right. Also, confirm that the plugs you are using are the correct ones for the bike. If its running so rich that your eating plugs the way you suggest I would pay close attention to the float levels, and the condition of the needle valve and seat.
Its not losing or burning any oil that i have noticed. Im using NGK bp7es plugs. Just the cheap ones there like 1.99 each. Im just not sure whats going on because after setting everything when i first got it it ran great and didnt go through plugs. Im pretty sure i used your tutorial that you made when you were working on your seca to set my carbs. Not really sure. the floats i set by holding the carbs upside down and making them all level with the lip of the bowl if that makes any sense lol hard to explain. Didnt use any special tool.
I'm not sure off hand if those are the correct plugs or not. Might be worth a phone call to the dealer to double check. If a float is sticking or a needle and seat are shot it would cause an overly rich condition. Are all the plugs fouling evenly?
JustFixIt99 They are correct I checked. The first time it was just one ( I noticed only three of the four pipes were getting warm) the second time it seemed like they were all firing but misfiring randomly. I think I'll pull the carbs and see what I find.
Contact me: kenjarabek@shaw.ca. Let's start with the face of right hand side air box...in the two o'clock position there is a mark which was a slight dent and the right foot peg should be a little out of alignment...that happened on the day that I sold it. The seat was cut to my specs by a friend of mine who owned a upholstery shop, the seat pan had to be repaired from excessive rust and another friend of mine who is one of the best body/paint guys I know did the repaint on it, I didn't have time to get the factory pin strip kit for the tank and tail piece, the muffler set was starting to pinhole rust at the bottom side middle and I was having trouble to find another replacement set...the chrome chain guard and small engine guards are missing, but when I was rebuilding it, I concentrated on making sure the engine and running gear were perfect as body parts were a little more difficult to readily find. I loved riding this bike and made sure that it got the TLC while in my possession.

Just a shot of carb spray

Check the air filter too if you haven't already. If its not the carbs, the next stop would be the ignition system....
Great video. Do you have any suggestions on how to remove a stuck brake pedal rod? I have a 1977 Suzuki GS750E.
thanks
How is it stuck?

I'm looking for the exact same carburetors, any idea where to fid them?
+xxchangobryanxx A bike wreckers or eBay is probably your best bet
+JustFixIt99 did you get it running?
+xxchangobryanxx Yup, been riding it for ~2 years now
Or part number at least?
