You might have convinced me that using reeds in the manuals actually sounds good on this piece! I've always shied away from using reeds in the chorus registrations of the Bach free works, but it works here so well. Really completes that "French Overture" aura, along with your choices in ornamentation.

I must agree with you, the reed in the manuals adds a "snap" to the note which helps make the notes very discernable. I really like this young man's playing.

I love to see the passion which is evident in your phrasing and body language. I loved the attack on the opening phrase of the prelude! Also love the energy with which you bring to the piece. If anything I felt like some (but not all) of the articulation was slightly too detached and one registration change in the fugue felt too extreme. But wow, solid performance!!! Thank you for sharing, I loved it!!!!

ULF HAS COMPLETE CONTROL OVER THE BACH COMPOSITION AND THE ORGAN, HE IS SOMETIMES A LITTLE OVER ENTHUSIASTIC. BUT HE DOES HAVE ALOT OF ENERGY.

Opening registration is insiteful;reeds work well here cuz the acoustics and flue work blend ;this man is foremost a true MUSICIAN first, and then an organist and not a typist or mere technician; the reeds in the plenum used have a talkative quality that makes them add charm to the texture.

To post an organ video without giving the name of the maker of the organ, the date, the location should be a crime. Nevertheless, a wonderful performance with startling original registration. Thank you!

why is it called ST ANNe

    • @leonardeast3389

The fugue is nicknamed "St. Anne" because the first 7 notes of the subject (which are heard by themselves in the opening 2 measures) are exactly the same as the melody in the first phrase of the well-known hymn tune "ST ANNE." This is the hymn which begins with the words: "O God, our help in ages past," and is a paraphrase of Psalm 90.

This is a rhythmically propelled performance of the Prelude with a sure sense of architecture but there are a number of note errors, unless he is using a strange edition! I suspect that it was a case of nerves, as he settles down and focuses as the performance progresses. I take issue with the "sempre staccato" articulation of the semiquavers, which produce a somewhat mechanical effect in the texture. The Fugue starts with a very modest registration, not the "organo pleno" that Bach marks, and the middle section is unduly muted for the symbolic "Son": a more sparkling registration would be welcome. Nevertheless the three sections are cogently related in their tempi and the final section realises the glorious musical manifestation of the Holy Spirit.

Denis P. Meyer, belle performance, un peu petit regret, dans les "passages rapides, mains gauche/main droite une légère "respiration" serait bienvenue, la technique, oui, souplesse et musicalité encore davantage et ce, sans vous offenser

It might be a good idea to have all those “nervous ticks” checked out by a doctor.
