For the last 4 years I've been remodeling an 86 year old house that I love with all of my heart. If I white washed the oak floors and they turned out as beautiful as your did I don't know how I would be able to let it go. Every single day I work on this house the harder it is for me to believe that I'm really going to sell it. Thank you for sharing how you transformed your floors to something so beautiful.
For tough old stain/finish I’d use a 16/36 drum sander paper first then 50/80/100. Make sure you go slow first two cuts to remove all finish. Edger sander on perimeter. Instead of white washing with paint, just use country white stain by Duraseal. Much better. Good luck!
How many layers of sealant did you use? I love this SO much, it’s giving me all the motivation I need to tackle my old floors. Edit: Saw in a different comment she used 2 coats if anyone was wondering!! 👍🏻
I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to do with my 103 year old floors and this is exactly what I want!! Thank you sooooooo much for sharing this 🥰
Love this! Thank you for sharing your process with everyone. Our home was built in 1870 & the upstairs has all of the original wood flooring, baseboards, window trim & stair rails. I’ve been thinking of different ways to tackle the floors & thanks to you, I now have a plan. :)
Love this been searching for a video like this, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the detailed explanations! Loved how it turned out, such a beautiful home!!!!
Beautiful flors. Thank you for making this video. I had been contemplating on doing the same thing. Now I think I will go ahead whitewash my floors. Outstanding video!
Floors look good. Duraseal white stain and waterbase polyurethane would work better than paint. Bona also makes a whitewash. Bona natural and bona white and bona traffic HD but bona is expensive.
I was for sure thinking I wanted to white wash mine but then I saw how yours looked after you sanded them and love that look too! lol would I be able to sand to lighten them then just add a sealant ?
what are the steps to whitewashing your wood floors? do you think dark aged ash wood floors would do well being whitewashed? thanks! & what brush(s) did you use to paint?
i brown wash mine it looks like cedar and gonna use Minwax Ultimate Floor Finish satin for the poly man the Minwax Ultimate Floor Finish rocks no sent and dry very fast .and nice job on floor
Hey Lauren, I am wondering about all the dust from that sander. Did it go into the other rooms? Did you have to cover everything? Could you give me the exact name of the sealer, please?
Hi I’m considering white washing my floors but I have 2 dogs. 1 lap dog and 1 large dog. My large dog has scratched my hardwood floors bad. I’m afraid if I paint he will do it again. I see you have 2 dogs does the paint come off because of their claws?
Hi! I’ve had zero issues with the dogs and the floors at all. Mostly just living on a farm keeping light floors clean has been the challenge. But if you seal them 3 times you should be good!
Hello Lauren, we love your floors! we have just sanded them and we are about to apply the paint and sealant! is it water or oil based? how many layers of the sealant ? thanks a lot
Hey darling!!! Thank you for asking! Yes we absolutely love them still! They have held up through rainy season which means mud and lots of water ends up on them. Thank you so much for asking!
@@LaurenStewart Thankyou so much Lauren I live in Anglesey Wales U.K.in a small cottage we originally sanded and varnished the floors but I am in need of a change I am inspired to have a go.
@@LaurenStewart well ! It’s done my other half sanded and I have painted a watery coat of frenchic dazzle me alfresco paint tomorrow we seal with some satin floor varnish. It’s brightened up the room we have also painted the skirting boards that were natural pine and we are doing the door frames.
It’s Not for me. But it your home and you love it and that’s what counts. You was blessed to shared it for many others that may want to do that process. The reward is the hard work and love you and your mom put into it and you can cherish it with your family. I also found on youtube someone did a peroxide to remove pet stains. amazing results disappeared
Your intro is a little too long, very cute but TH-cam viewers like it very shirt and sweet. Anyway love your channel and hope you do new things very soon, hope all is well. Merry Christmas!
People watching this, don’t do this!! Don’t ruin the beautiful hardwood floor. After sanding just use “pickled oak” wood stain if you like whitewashed look.
The floors look good but you did it the hard way. Next time buy Sweet Pickens White Oil Wax. After sanding apply wax. It leaves a white wash and seals it all at the same time.
Are you serious? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 my husband is ALWAYS helping. He was replacing double french doors all around our new to us VERY old farmhouse the entire time. My dad is a contractor and I grew up watching BOTH my parents tackle projects and my kids will have the same. BOTH of us get things done. As you can imagine he was beyond impressed and so proud of me. And I was SO proud of his handy work on his projects during this same time frame.
Good thing you don’t have to live here. I LOVE it and I’m so happy we did it. Move along if you don’t like it. No need to be rude. My house doesn’t impact you.
@@LaurenStewartYou did an absolutely amazing job!! don't be disencouraged by some people's rude words! even they don't like it, they should still respect others' tastes and hard work, sadly not everyone knows that....

The only sensible comment in this section 🤣
How many coats of that stain and what type of sealant?
@@noelleoberg8032that would depend on your room size and the product you use

Thanks so much for sharing what didn't work. I would have bought an oil based sealer for sure. This will help with my project. Looks gorgeous.
How long did you wait in between the white wash and sealant coat? Where can i find the brush?
Was the successful sealant the minwax poly for floors? It is not oil based?
wow well done. thanks for sharing. Did you find the polyurethane gave off a yellow tinge?
Love how your Mother always has Great Idea's 👍🏻👌 ❤️

Hello, I’m seriously thinking about whitewashing my floors using your method and curious how your floors holding up since it’s been 3 -4 yrs now?
Did your top coat yellow? I have redone this twice and my poly coat keeps yellowing when it dries!!!
You did a great job
We're doing this but with the product Bona - Nordic.

Hi did you use white dove by benjamin moore floor paint ? And i know you placed two coats of a sealer. Was it matte ?
Hi yes that is the pain I used! Let me check the sealer.
Yes matte!!!!!
I thought NO don’t do it, love hard wood. But I am impressed. I would just stain them but looks great.
Thank you so so much!!!!!!!!!
This is so beautiful!! Love it! Thank you for sharing!!
Can you tell me how you whitewashed your floors? I can’t get you video to play.
My wife and I love the look. We just bought a house that needs all the floors redone. How long did this take you in total all steps for all the rooms?
Love the antique piece.
Thank you so so much!!!
It looks so nice! What did it mean to plane the wood floor? What tool do you use? Tia
Would i still need to do this if I want to paint my floors from the color you originally had to almost a black / dark grey?
Thank you for sharing your hard work so my work can be easier!
Thanks for the video. Doing this today!
Very nice!!! I'm impressed!!!
Thank you so so much!!!
They are beautiful! It's a lot of work but it sure paid off.
Thank you so much!!!!!!!

I tried the sealant that you used and it immediately yellowed as I applied it. 😫😫😫 Idk what else to try at this point! I need them sealed 😞

I need to know this too.
Always use water base otherwise it will yellow
Good Job! What are you mixing the paint with?
Water! We did a white wash
Watching again to give you that view, like, and comment!! ❤❤
I so so appreciate you darling!!!!!
Looks amazing Lauren
Thank you so much!!!!!
Lauren did you just use one "coat" of paint?
Yes I did!!!!!! Just one paint but two coats of sealer!
That was amaaazing
Can I ask your floors look beautiful just the look I would go for but how do they stand up to wear and tear? Down the line do they still look so good?
Hey darling!!! Thank you for asking! Yes we absolutely love them still! They have held up through rainy season which means mud and lots of water ends up on them. Thank you so much for asking!

is it a 50/50 mix of water and paint?
It’s about 1.5 cups of water to one cup of paint!
What color wash did you use?
I love this 💕💕💕

What did you do a 1:1 ratio of? Stain and paint?
Water and paint!
LOVE THIS!!! I can’t wait to try it!!! What was your 50/50 paint ratio with besides just the paint?
Water mixed with paint!
That's what I was wondering. Why not say what you're mixing lol
How long do you wait for your white paints to dry before you put the sealer on?
Only 6 hours!
Hello, great job, what is your light wall paint color ?
In the fireplace room it’s called Pale Oak and then the rest of the house is white dove
Do you mind posting a numbered step by step?
Looks amazing
Thank you!!!!!
The floors looked 10x better before the white wash haha
Your boy got a good name
Love it!
Ratio 1-1 of what?
Do you have a price breakdown?
Sorry! It’s been almost two years I really don’t.
Thank you for the video. Please consider using much softer or no music. It is very distracting.
My floor looks just like this from pet urine and this is the exact video I needed
The before photos???
did you sand after you put the sealer on the wood? please and thank you
I did not sand again after it was sealed
Thank you!
Of course!
How long did it take you to sand just the first room?
Mmm a couple of hours? But then adding the edging it took a bit longer

The floors look good but you did it the hard way. Next time buy Sweet Pickens White Oil Wax. After sanding apply wax. It leaves a white wash and seals it all at the same time.
Great tip! Thanks! I did it this way to make sure I had more control of the color. I was not going to seal it until it looked exactly how I wanted.
Its pronounced Foy-ay not for-yer. Its a french word not an English word.
