      @ShePaints @joshthomson2579 (thank you Josh! SO MUCH! THANK YOU!!!) AS A Nurse Practitioner for 28 years I have said this one almost EVERY refinishing YT Channel and I can NOT express enough that you are literally KILLING YOURSELF SLOWLY and once your organs SHUT down, because it is NOT a matter of IF, it is a matter of WHEN, you will NOT be a candidate for a transplant because you will be considered somone that “Self Harmed” and by saying “I never use Gloves, I don’t know why, I just don’t”……..FOr the love of G-d, PLEASE PLEASE CHANGE THAT BAD HABIT!!!
      To give you an idea of the TOXINS that are absorbed through the LARGEST ORGAN ON YOUR BODY, you are “better off” and putting LESS TOXINS into your body of you smoked TEN PACKS OF CIGARETTES A DAY.
      The WORST PART IS that by NOT wearying gloves and a respirator and even a PPE due to the over splash, is that when your organs shut down, WHEN….you can NOT donate a SINGLE BIT OF YOUR BODY TO ANOTHER HUMAN WHO NEEDS it so that THEY CAN LIVE. WHAT you are DOING is telling alllll the people that follow you “it’s ok to not wear ANY PROTECTION, because I don’t”. WHY WOULD YOU BE SO CARELESS????? Now, the 100% SERIOUS PART…..GO SEE YOUR MD, your General Practitioner, your FAMILY DOC….go NOW and get your blood work done and screen for toxins. I will tell you WHY……I have just looked at several of your vids…..and your Sclera is NOT WHITE. It SHOULD BE WHITE. When we start to see it fading to an off white or grey or even yellow….THERE IS A PROBLEM. Now, if there is EVER a time that I want, WANT, PRAY that I AM WRONG, IT WOULD BE NOW in telling you this…..I do not think that I am. 3 Continents, 11 countries……I am not a baby to “Medicine” and my personal specialty is ER & Trauma as well as Disaster preparedness. Your Sclera are NOT white, not the white they SHOULD be. I am just begging you to see your Fam Doc for a Blood work up and screen for toxins. A LFT, TSH, T3-4 eGFR, Albumin etc etc…..they will know if you TELL THEM THE TRUTH as to why. Now. GET A SPONSOR for a respirator and 6mm (MINIMUM THICKNESS) rubber gloves. Get a PPE, disposable is preferable and contact your local Fire Dept to see if you can drop off your used PPE and filters from your Resp and gloves so they can dispose of them as Haz-mat. PLEASE. PLEASE. Do this for yourself and THEN for the people watching you. IF you choose NOT to listen and just ignore me, I understand. I do. You do not know me. The ONLY thing I can ask of you from here is to NEVER SAY “I don’t wear gloves, ever, I don’t know why, I just don’t”…..NEVER EVER AGAIN. Quite the OPPOSITE PLEASE🙏🏻🙏🏻…..TELL your followers that they MUST wear a respirator and 6mm MIN disposable gloves and a PPE of similar thickness. ANY Paint store that sells strippers of any kind will know what kind you NEED. They are NOT “Cheap” but neither is your LIFE. PLEASE. ❤❤❤❤❤ Be Healthy. Get Healthy, SHARE what HEALTHY MEANS in this line of work you are so good at. PLEASE.
      Just a final FYI…….ONE WHOLE BODY (HEALTHY) Donation can SAVE 8 (EIGHT) LIVES and ENHANCE 75 (SEVENTY FIVE) LIVES. By “enhance” I mean everything from bone marrow to corneas to skin grafts and much much more. I AM THE ONE THAT HAS TO SIT WITH A FAMILY AND EXPLAIN WHAT ORGAN/BODY DONATION CAN DO……. PLEASE at the VERY LEAST let your fans KNOW you are WRONG. At the most……I beg you to see your family Doc. If you can’t afford it, Josh…..would you be interested in starting a “go Fund me page?” I am not in North America right now so I can not do it, we need someone in NA. Just say the word because if Josh won’t or can not (and hey buddy, it is OK if u can’t as YOUR life comes FIRST and that is OK!!!) then I will reach out to colleagues in the US or Canada, wherever you are and ask them to start one by getting in touch with you. It kills me to see how MANY MANY MANY YOUNG PEOPLE we lose because people do NOT donate and IF they do, their body is far past the “sell by” date as we say. (Crass but it is how some of us survive. We find the darkest humor in order to not cry. If we start to cry, we usually won’t stop. At least not what we do. So forgive me but that is who we are. It keeps us as sane and stable and calm as possible for our patients as they come first.). So, please consider this request as one that is about YOU. I do not need to have any response unless u need my help in which case I would be happy to do whatever I can. Regardless, Godspeed and I will keep you in my prayers. I am not a super crazy religious person but I do believe that there is a reason and a cause and effect for everything so there must be a higher power. I have seen miracles that people would never believe if were not for my entire team being present. I would like to count you as one. If anything or nothing else…..prove me wrong. I beg of you. ❤🙏🏻❤

    Acetone! What a great idea! I have a rental where I want to strip the PAINT. off the cabinets and return them to their natural color so they will match the railings and stairs with spindles that are close by in the dining area. Ok, a long time tenant asked if she could paint the house to "make it her own" after living there a few years, Knowing she would do a good work I gave her permission. Who'd a thought she'd paint the kitchen cabinets!! Lesson learned. There's a point in your video (2:22) when you say that you need to return moisture to the wood before you seal it in order to protect it.. My question is how do you put moisture back into the wood before the polyurethane? Because of all the mess with stripping and sanding indoors, I thought I'd have to leave the cabinets painted. Thank you so much for a great video and your sparkling personality!

    • @ShePaints
      @ShePaints  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for telling me about your project!
      I’m sorry if I was unclear, but what I meant was that when you seal it, that DOES add moisture to the wood, which in the case of that red (orange) oak, makes it look more orange unlike when it’s in a dry state, and is lighter and more neutral, does that make sense?
      That’s why we have to apply something to it rather than just sanding then sealing, if you don’t want it to be an orange tone.

    • @ShePaints
      @ShePaints  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you Maria for your kind words. The paint and topcoats are completely safe for indoors and puppies, 😃 BUT the acetone is another story!! It IS a harsh product... it has a very strong odor and probably most people wear gloves! But it lasts for only a minute or so and it dries immediately, so it's only dangerous for a minute lol. Definitely do not let your puppies near acetone while you're working with it - and you can use a stripper like Citristrip if you prefer. and if you're painting your project a solid instead of this natural wood look, you don't even have to strip if you're using chalk type paints!

  • @48bjthomas66

      Excellent question and I'm sorry if i didn't mention that in the video! Yes you definitely need to wait for the first coat to dry, if you're going to do two coats, but not overnight or anything. Assuming you're using water based paint, (chalk paint is best but latex might work if it's watered down enough - not sure) we're talking an hour or two at most before you'd brush or wipe on another coat. Yes I have; all kinds of surfaces. It will work just fine on oak veneer (skip the acetone for sure!) For legs, it will be a tiny bit tricky, since you don't want to go over and over the surface as you try to go around (and around). If you'll use a small brush (i mean anything around two inches wide or smaller?) it will help so you're not overlapping with each stroke. It WILL work though; you'll just need to go lightly and maybe do 3 coats with each coat drying in between.

    • @ShePaints
      @ShePaints  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. That is one way to get rid of the orange oak color, but it’s a heck of a huge time commitment!
      If you use a chalk type paint, it will go straight over the top of the current finish and bond to it so you don’t have to add primer. Primer is unnecessary & will cover up the grain . You would “wash” with a neutral but cooler tone of paint like what I used in the video (a beige or khaki tone) which will gradually change the orange and still allow a little wood grain to show through, like a traditional whitewash would.
      I would seal it with one coat of water based topcoat when you get the tone you like, and then go back with a whiter paint wash to create a more whitewashed look over the new wood color. Does that make sense?

    • @vm6011
      @vm6011 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ShePaints I also have the orange honey oak kitchen cabinets. I do not want to "paint" them as I prefer a wood toned cabinet - I just need to neutralize the tone. Would this taupe wash you show in this video give me a wood toned cabinet - just less orange? I don't think I want a white washed look - just less orange. Also you mentioned to use a chalk paint directly over the current finish and one coat sealer. How many years of use do you think I could get out of that before chipping occurred? Or does a wash of paint not chip?

If you're willing to sand or strip it to remove the yellow/orange tones, (and you can even bleach it after that if you want to lighten it .. i have a video tutorial doing that as well!) you can try a very light stain like Minwax weathered wood stain or "sunbleached" stain, which is supposed to give you that lighter, cooler look...

    • @ShePaints
      @ShePaints  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No dumb questions! There are so many methods and products and variables with these diy things!
      The moisture goes back when you seal/protect it with either a water based poly or wax. Even though of course those aren’t the same as water, they do have moisture, which eventually cures and then will protect the surface forever.
      But if the sealer is applied over raw wood, the color of the wood is what you get, and with orange oak, I don’t want it to be that color!
      So I washed the wood with paint that changes the tone of the wood, and THEN seal it.

It's a clay based paint, so mixing a little bit of water with it causes it to bond when dry, and it's smooooth, and also allows the wood grain to show through; the paint actually soaks into the grain like a stain.
