    The song is about a friend of his that dies and brantley watched his friends girl in so much pain so he wrote this to help her...and portrayed as his friend being in heaven watching his love die inside over his death and him asking god to help her cope.....brantley is an Amazing song writer and singer and I've been following him since before he was big time...almost alllll his songs are real life stories...not one bad brantley gilbert song yet

    from an interview he did
    Who’s Amy? (One of the more emotional songs on 'Halfway to Heaven' is called 'Saving Amy.')
    I actually wrote that song - this is a crazy story -that song took me longer to write than any song I’ve ever written. I wrote it about a friend of mine from high school. Her name was not Amy, but her boyfriend had proposed to her and actually got in a car accident and died on the way home that night. And then about six months later I was still working on it, but I changed the title to ‘Saving Amy,’ I didn’t want to put her name in it, and I played it for my cousin who had just come back from Iraq and he started tearing up, and I was like "Dude, what is it?" He said, "Number one, that’s a sad song, but I’ve been waiting for somebody to write a song about Joseph for a long time." And it clicked. I didn’t know it, but a friend of mine, Joseph Hensley ... proposed to a girl named Amy one night, and on his way home he was actually hit by a train and the only thing that was untouched in the whole entire accident was his Bible. So it turned out to be a pretty strong song, and I felt like I had a little bit of help writing that one

    Hey Billy he's singing from the perspective of a man who has died, he proposed to his girlfriend but died the same night. She was "lost" after that and that's where the "Save Amy" part comes from.

    I've never heard this song until today and it strikes me in a different way because I knew a woman named Amy who I've known for 23 years Not only was she a a friend to me and my entire family but she was also my stepsons biological mother I watched her have to bury her eleven-year-old son on her other son's 6th birthday and 5 years ago I tried to help her get off of drugs and for a whole year she did good she was clean and one day the memories of her son got too much for her and she got high again and she overdosed and 4 years ago today was her funeral so this song really struck me in a different way but I want to thank you for showing the song because I believe that God saved her from the pain that she was going through because it is a pain no mother should ever have to endure

  • @crystalsmith4919
    @crystalsmith4919 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok I have never heard this song but what I got from it is that the guy proposed to the girl then took her home, then something happened to him later that night and he died. He then has been watching over her from heaven, begging God to heal her so she could move on, because she is so broken from the ordeal of losing him.

  • @Kelly-cz7wt
    @Kelly-cz7wt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Theres a part in the beginning of the song that says "I never made it home that night" so the way I've always took it is that he died on his way home after he proposed to her and he was watching over her after his death.

    The song is all about a good friend of Brantleys, as mentioned in the song, the guy died the night of the proposal, i have a strong feeling this event is also the event from B.G's song halfway to heaven, cause in the song B.G mentions "they say i took a swing at my best friend for tryin to take my keys, next thing i knew i was upside down, thinkin this is it for me" maybe the guys death was at that moment, maybe thats why Brantley was tryin to flip his truck somehow😂😢if that was the case, he is way more lucky than i originaly thought he was

    You missed the line of lyrics that said “But I never made it home that night” - presumably, he died in a car accident and Amy almost “lost her mind” as she was in so much pain from losing him. She moved on later but he was always there watching over her.

    He died... After giving her his ring. He didn't make it home, on his drive.
    All his songs are about real things that have happened to him..
    He's very open about it in interviews and his concerts.
    He wrapped his truck around a tree, drunk off his ass, once.... Never made it home. And his girl left him for it. It hurt her too much to stay with him, worrying all the time...
    But in better spirits.... He is sober, after about half his life battling his alcoholism. Ten some-odd years later, they got back together.. Married.. Children..
    He's doing good now, man..
    God is good. Everyday, all the time.

One of my favorite ones that wasn't a single of Brantley's, he shows how much he cares about Amy and how god saved her life. Like that it tells an actual story and it's a great one, even if it's sad. It SHOULD'VE been a single.

    So it’s about a guy who’s proposed to a girl to promise to spend his entire life with her, however as the line says “I Never made it home that night” he died before he reached home. His friend died in a car accident is the meaning of the song. So it’s about her living with that and the songs perspective is from him watching over her all of these years. Asking God to make sure she’s all right to save her and hopefully bring her back to him. “As I walk her through these gates” she’s found her way back to him and he’s thanking God for saving Amy.

  • @michaelevans1193

    Here is the sequence of events: boy proposes, girl says yes, boy takes her home, boy dies on way home, girl gives up on life and faith, boy watches over her from heaven, girl finally gets her life and faith back on track, boy looks forward to meeting her at the Pearly Gates when it is her time because her faith will lead her there.
    This is one of those songs where you have to remember that Country came out of a mix of gospel and the blues. The theme was a little abstract, but once you get used to some of these themes, it is a little easier to pick up on them.
    Two songs about faith that you should react to are both by Reba: Pray for Peace and Back to God. Pray for Peace would be a good one to teach your daughter as it is simple and her official video gives hand gestures for the song.

    Pretty sure a) singer/guy was killed in crash bringing her home after proposing. b) She survived, but was overwhelmed by her loss (him). A decent guy who went to heaven, all he could do is look down. c) Amy got her shit together and lived her life well, and was indeed saved. He was there to meet her at the Pearly Gates. So Amy was saved, but she also croaked.
    BTW, think the lyrics screwed up a key phrase. He had his twang, but pretty sure he was saying "God I know I can't." He just didn't sing it very well.

    Never heard this before. Now I'm sitting here making my Save the Dates and Bawling my eyes out. The idea of losing my fiance before we could get married (or after)... I'd be completely devastatedand lost.

    He died the night he proposed and he is watching over her and wishing he could fix her heart and her not hurt and stop her hurting in general but thanks God he saved her faith so they could be together and he could make up for the time apart and never see her hurt again and fix any hurt that was left when apart upon reconciliation and be in love and happy forever together
