Gleyber had so much promise when he came up in 2018 and carried it over in 2019. I don’t know what happened since then. He doesn’t play with any kind if urgency and always makes mistakes on routine plays. It’s kinda sad he’s fallen this far.
Remember Martin vs Jackson almost brawl in the dugout when he didn't hustle in the outfield and Timu Perez getting thrown out by Jeter in the 2000 WS. Reggie made up for it in the end and another of many highlights from Jeter's career.
Gleyber embarrassed himself more than a benching by pleading his case in the dugout. He should have sat down then gone to Boone’s office post game and apologized.
Anybody notice on the play at the plate how he shielded himself from the thrown ball? He was more concerned with getting hit by the ball than making it into home plate. Unreal......
I'm happy Boone finally grew a pair of balls, an experienced manager would've done so long ago, and possibly fixed this problem before becoming an issue. Reply
Exactly what I have been saying about Torres. He, like Sanchez has great talent but is to lazy, stupid or both to play the game to his ability. Its shameful that he is wasting his baseball career.
Boone is always blowing sunshine up their butt and is not disciplinary. Happy to FINALLY see Boone do something. Torres has been setting a bad example for two years. He should have benched him immediately and not let him go out and play defense and then doing it. A prime example of Boone being to lenient for to long.
Good move. But if managers benched all showing-off non-hustling players these days, there'd be about four players on the field on any given day. MLB has become Watch Me Dog It & Pimp It.
Gleyber Torres is a talented but baffling player who is regressing steadily. He also seems to feel that he is entitled to play 2nd base for the Yankees, in spite of the fact that his play undermines the entire team. We have reached the point where he needs to go.
Between his sloppy fielding and base running, I sincerely think that Gleyber plays baseball stoned. That said, I’d really like to see this be the beginning of a motivation/redemption arc for him. But tomorrow, he better be on the bench. Start Jazz at 2B and let Gleyber get hungry and realize that playing time is not a given.
Everything happens, then Gleyber is allowed to go out and play defense for a half inning before getting benched. Like everything else since late May, it just doesn't add up. It sounds like Boone got a call from Cashman's people telling him to bench Gleyber, and to hash it out in the dugout. They even put CashBoone double-speak in the post-game show script. Notice how Jack Curry said "here's the evidence of Aaron Boone holding court with Gleyber." Then Curry said "The rest of the season, it's really all right there in front of Gleyber." So, the clubhouse reporters tried to grill Boone on the situation. Angry that he was being put on the spot (and without the ability to ask Cashman's office what to say,) Boone refused to comment further. Instead, he retreated back to the "Gleyber plays as hard as anyone shtick." Personally, I haven't felt this much distrust towards the management and front office since '89/'90 when George was out of control. I didn't mind '14 (when they prioritized Jeter's retirement over fighting for the last wildcard spot, but refused to admit it.) It was the retirement of a generational icon, I understand that. 2024 is a different story
Gleyber is shooting himself in the foot and has cost the Yankees several games this year in big spots. It’s really sad. He has so much talent to be super good.
Every year it's the same story with the Yankees and fans With Gleyber Torres not playing very good and making terrible plays. I don't understand why they keep him.
I don't know man, he blatantly says he refuses to move positions and then dogs it on the basepath after his own hit and gets thrown out at the plate due to bad baserunning. Along with all his terrible playing. He's starting to smell like a clubhouse cancer.
Leones Del Caracas has won the Venezuelan league recently. Maybe Gleyber would get some 💔 there. Home town, maybe he followed them as a boy. Thats a win, win situation. Everybodys happy then.
Nobody wants him He is a cancer Another Sanchez Has talent but refuses to do the work He feels entitled to He doesn’t have to work hard or hustle Let the other players do that.
Both can be true. And he was absolutely standing there watching what he thought was a home run - call it what you want, but the ball didn’t go out of the ballpark. Not acceptable.
Commentator makes a good point. Aaron Boone has never done this before. Torres needs to go !! He might play hard tomorrow, but he will lapse back into the same behavior.
I 1000% agree with you guys. Even Verdugo needs to go, Wells can't hit, Cabrera is who? The Yankees need to overhaul that lineup. We also need pitching, giving up that many runs early is crazy.
Wells CAN hit just give him a shot and he is and is raking and should BE the starting catcher and NOT play half and half with Trevino. Cabrera cannot be blamed for anything since he is JUST a bench player and that is all we have. But yes I totally agree with Torres and verdugo that they should have been traded since I think they are both cancers to the team. More Torres than verdugo but both are that
@@shinyhuntaa Really, hold on a second let me look that up, okay he's only been in the league 2 years so okay will see what happens the rest of the season.
It’s one thing if a dude makes a mistake once in a while but his just always seem SO costly either in the field or on the basepaths. He has literally cost this team games. And his bat, which was his saving grace, is freaking awful and has been all season. He has regressed and honestly Boone and cashman are to partially blame for this. He should’ve been held far more accountable. Maybe gleyber would’ve tried to tighten this shit up. But now it’s too late and these habits are hard to break. It’s crazy to think a guy who had so much potential has shown such a low baseball IQ and such a massive regression as an overall player. He’s pulled a Javy Baez and benching him now is almost silly because he’s almost certainly gone after the season
Yes Torres is a garbage right now ..that'why boone put it in bench . Torres are horrible last night ..I was mad at last night yankees loss but I'm ok .tonight we going to win let's go yankees
Boone finally holding someone accountable is a joke. Torres should’ve been moved at the trade deadline. Just another Cashman failure on full display and claiming and now dfa’ing Davis is more proof that there needs to be changes made in both the front office and manager after this season. One more thing , Stroman has had one quality start out of ten in the last two months ……. another bad signing.

Ur acting like he’s that bad. He single handedly carried the 2023 yankees as their only offensive hitter without judge, stanton
Baseball is just a job to some of these players. Gleyber is one of those guys.
He plays like he doesn’t give a shit anymore.

Great move by Boone!

Even when he makes a nice diving play… like last night behind 2nd base, the ball rolls off his glove. It seems his glove is made of cement.
😂😂😂😂
Release him already or DFA already
About time bro
Boone finally made a move I actually applauded.
Pretty cool you got young Mike Piazza on the podcast
They probably couldn't get anything for him before the trading deadline. How come? EVERY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE KNOWS HE'S A STIFF!
It's been years with this guy. He's a losing ball player. He doesn't have a championship pedigree.
Yeah, Gleyber is a grown man....with frosted tips.
Gleyber is not professional. He acts like a disinterested employee!
