His predatory instincts were instrumental in the Reds dominating the game for most of the 1980s. He was loved at Anfield, feared at every opposition ground and renowned throughout Europe. .
Often described by his teammates as Liverpool's first line of defence, the Wales international was not just a goalscorer but a hard-working, selfless runner who never gave up the chase.

Ian Rush was my favorite striker when I was a kid. He is one of the reasons why I became a Liverpool fan for life.

The skill is not in putting the ball in the net, but being in the right place at the right time, ALL the time. Rush was immense, a true legend of Anfield and the beautiful game.

Ian Rush scored at will and was a terror to defenders. He was lethal with both the right and left foot, and had pace. One of the best strikers football has seen.

He scored all sorts of goals and my God did Everton suffer at the hands of Ian Rush a truly great goalscorer. At times he was unplayable, he had pace and once near the penalty area he seemed to change gears simply electric, one of the best strikers to ever play the game.
He was a goal machine, never let the club down.

Liverpool was my childhood memory and favorite team. China broadcasted then premium league. Liverpool is best known city to me because of Liverpool FC. Ian rush, Beardsley, Barnes, Aldridge, McManaman and Dalglish are some well known and talented players I still remembered today.
He KNEW how to find the net with such accuracy and skill. Can't fault the legend.👍

Rush was outstanding, the best natural goalscorer I have ever seen after Jimmy Greaves. But there was so much more to his game than sticking the ball in the back of the net; he was a great creator of chances and his work rate off the ball was second to none.

I recall reading the back pages of the Mirror one day in the summer he left for Juventus. As a very young Liverpool fan I was gutted. He was talking about how he hoped to bring cans of baked beans with him to Italy. Then Aldridge came along and all was forgotten.

4:47 The goal against City was typical of Rush and an example I always highlight. He's making tackles back outside his own penalty box, but not stopping to smell the roses, bombing forward and then getting a goal at the end. He created that goal, so why not finish it off yourself? :)
Young Haaland reminds me of Rush (on Hulk Hogan Vitamins), Great finisher, always in the right place. Unlike Ronaldo who played differently and would run at defenders. Shearer some where in between. Batastuta somewhere inbetween Shearer and Ronaldo.

When rush returned from juventus he was interviewed on north west news about why he returned , he replied that he couldn’t settle in Italy as it felt like being in a foreign country 😂
