- Alan Shearer-one of English football's most legendary.
After starting out at Southampton, Shearer went on to represent Blackburn Rovers and boyhood club Newcastle United, as well as England 63 times. He scored 30 goals for his country and captained them for the final four years of his international career.
Shearer was quite simply a 1990s and early noughties football superstar, and here are some of his finest moments.

If Shearer had played for a giant like Real Madrid, Milan or Bayern, he would be considered as an even bigger legend. But his loyalty to Newcastle was amazing. I enjoyed watching the Premier League summaries here in Spain mainly because of him and Le Tissier. What an era. What a player.
Alan Shearer was and still is the best English footballer. Even now in 2022 Shearer, in his prime, would get in any side in the world.
Strong enough to bully centre backs, fast enough to run away from them, as good as anyone I've seen in the air including Cristiano Ronaldo and a cannon of a shot that was as accurate as it was powerful. Wasn't flamboyant and chose to become a legend at his hometown club instead of chasing trophies which is why he's not as highly regarded as he deserves to be. Best number 9 of the Premier League era.
Not to mention what a great role model he was.
@@waynem4791 He was just all around no nonsense wasn't he? The only time you saw him in the papers was for football related matters. No outlandish lifestyle, no major controversy, no wife trying to get famous off his back, just boring but in a really good way.
Nah, only 1 bit wrong there. Not as good as ronaldo in the air, nor as good as sir les in the air either. But lethal nonetheless

@TACMAL Rooney was great all around, more versatile that any of these others but maybe not quite as good of a finisher. Harry Kane may be the best English finisher if he keeps it up.
@@jtaco4101 kane needs a lot more chances to score, he's not as clinical. Shearer saved Newcastle from relegation time and time again with 1 or 2 chances a game

I'm a Newcastle Utd supporter & Alan Shearer was my hero when I was a kid & he's STILL TO THIS DAY the only player to score 260 premiership goals & he's been retired about 15 years he's a LEGEND!!!
and how many in the top flight before it became the Premiership. you can add enough 43 on for the old 1st division when he played for Southampton and no one will ever get close to his final tally. btw same as you Black and White though my viens.

But now he lives in darras Hall Northumberland 70-80 mile or so away

This man scored Goals wen defense was full of Tony Adam's, Jaap stams, Martin keolin, mays, palesters.. He was constant each season with all types of injuries.. No one EVER BETTER IN THE AIR THAN HIM.. A TRUE NUMBER 9!
So true about "in the air"! The only other player to score more headers in the Premier League is Crouch, and at his ridiculous height of course he was!
In his earlier career he wasn't known as a target man, but an explosive goal scorer; like an Inzaghi. As he got older he changed the way he played to be the target man who could play the ball forward to other players. He used his strength and power to assist others, like a Drogba. Not many forwards are able to change/adapt their game like he did and remain at the top of the game; most get relegated to a midfield/defensive role.

Best English player I've ever watched, and there were quite a few throughout the last four decades. His pace, power, technique and striking were fantastic and his consistency was unbelievable, he ALWAYS scored, especially in big matches, which is something only greatest players do. Not to mention that 90% of his goals were pure screamers.
God, I miss the nineties, Shearer, Batistuta, Bergkamp, Del Piero, Inzaghi, Rivaldo, Cantona, Zidane, Raul, Ronaldo, Fowler, Šuker, Baggio, Klinsmann, Weah ... it seems that every serious club had at least one superstar and that talent was much more evenly distributed than today.

He is simply the greatest no.9 the English game has ever seen. No flash or gimmicks. Just simple, no-nonsense attacking football with one hell of a powerful right foot. 5:59 That volley from outside the box vs Everton is Shearer at his lethal best.
Exactly. He goes to show that you don't need flash to be a great forward. Brilliant in the box, he could score from almost any position but could also hit powerfully from range. He was a goal scoring machine, few were as consistent and ruthless in the final third.
Henry was 5 times better and he played at a time when there was 22 teams.

I can remember on 6 english world class scorers ; Keagan, Lineker, Shearer, Owen, Rooney and Kane. Shearer was the most completed of all them. Canonball in the right foot. He could choose the club in Europe where he wanted to play but he choosed Newcastle, to became a legend.
