- The flight takes place in the mountains East of Wamena. The village is called Salema. The Runway is 210m "short" and very steep at the top. It has a bump in the first third and we aim to land on that transition.

The sad thing is the fact that Pilatus quit building our beloved PC-6, a true delight to fly. Always made me proud to be Swiss, flying a Swiss plane into places no one else would dare. ;)
Indeed it's sad no more Pilatus Porter are being made. It's an incredible machine that does the job extremely well.

We used to jump one of these in both Spain and the UK.. That vertical beta mode decent (sometimes with a skydiver holding the wingtip) was amazing!..:)

Had the honor of talking to a a Porter pilot with over a thousand jungle landings. He said the Porter was designed to be a plane for the pilot that could do anything. The abilities of pilot and plane complimented each other.

Great video, amazing pilot and fantastic Porter. I flew the Porter several years as a skydiverpilot in Germany. But landscape and airfields are definitely not comparable.

Brilliant and fond memories of flying in these aircraft in PNG in the 1970's whilst serving with the Australian SAS Regiment on training exercises, so compact, so versatile. What a fantastic tool it was. Even recall a Pilatus landing on and taking off from the football oval at the back of our barracks at Swanboursne Western Australia. I did notice though the huge improvements in the avionics from the 1970's !!

So love what you do for the people. I enjoy the happy faces and the anticipation of when they first hear your engine. Do you do flyover to notify your about to land? How do the people know when your arriving ? Did I hear a stall warning just as your touching down?
Thanks for your kind message, Bruce! Yeah, I usually overhead unless I have established radio coms with the village. In that case, and if they know I’m coming I’ll just go straight in to final.
I guess if there are no radios then the ppl will only know the plane is coming when they hear it 😂

In the late 70s early 80s the Pilatus Porter was in service in the Australian Army, and I had a bit of experience with the aircraft. Remarkable aircraft, so capable and versatile. I enjoyed those days.
