- This video includes 20+ minutes of incredible action at Lukla Tenzing Hillary Airport from a recent trip to Asia
Filmed freehand using a 4K Sony AX53 video camera
The airport is situated 9500ft above sea level in the Himalayas. With a very short runway in the mountainous terrain it makes for a very challenging arrival, pilots have to perfect this as there is no room for a go around, the angle of the runway provides a fun watch!
Lukla airport is the gateway for mountain hikers who begin their trek to Mount Everest, the tallest in the world so it attracts many visitors!
All flights in this video are to/from Kathmandu as it was the quiet season with only a few flights per day, I included my arrival and departure from onboard to show you how it looks from inside
Summit Air L410, Tara Air DHC-6 twin otter and Sita Dornier 228 and helicopters are the aircraft that come in and out of here constantly
I will try and come back here in the high season where there is up to 40 flights per day!
Luckily the weather was perfect and provides a stunning view but when the weather is poor or dark arrivals are not permitted as it’s just too dangerous
Not many titles so you can enjoy the fun arrivals and departures
Upcoming videos
- Phuket Airport 3 locations + highlights vid

This is easily the very best Lukla video I have seen. Well done. Well done.
Always a pleasure watching vids @ Lukla & St. Bartholomew
This is one of those airports where, when you land, the aircraft belt throws you one meter forward, but your soul is thrown about fifteen meters away...nice video!!
Wow! What you captured there was absolutely amazing. Great content and videos. I can’t wait for more.
One of the only airports in the world where i would consider it perfectly appropriate to clap after a normal landing...
Awesome planespotting at most dangerous airport in the world!! ❤❤
Wonderful capturing ❤
Such a beautiful place and a pleasure to watch. DHC-6 is an absolute beast up there!🤙
Such nice compilation! Must´ve been a lot of fun for an avgeek. In case of engine failure during T/O, there´s plenty of altitude to bury the plane "safely" onto those valleys down there. The engine failure during landing is a no no... no room for a go around and that threshold looks hard as a rock! Cheers from Brazil
The take off video from inside the plane is breathtaking. I would love to experience that plane ride. I bet it’s an amazing and exciting feeling. Awesome video.
De très belles observations aériennes 🙂👍
That’s a huge PASS from me !
Awesome! Bet that was a ton of fun!
Amazing plane spotting location
Thank you for your Awesome video.
I'd love to fly in and straight out again just for that exhilarating experience!
영상 잘보고 갑니다

Perfect
Love it!
Very nice
This video is awsome you did a wonderful job spotting 😁👍
Terrifyingly beautiful!
Nice to see my twotter making hay I used to work for Viking Air did the final inspection on that airplane when it left final completion man they make it work love it.
Wow
Excellent video! Thank You! In Lukla there are no go arounds, you either land correctly or die. Also, in case of an engine failure, a fatal accident is also guaranteed. That is why is considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world.
One of the most dengerous airport in the world where pilots are operating their aircraft like toys, amaging skils!!!
Looks like the Lukla airport has improved very much in the past few years.
✈🛩🛫🛬
Didn’t even realize you went to Luka until now I would be a little scared to land there because of the history anyway nice video as always Cal!
Very good
Сууупппееерр💯💯💯💯💯 прелесть💯💯💯💯 шикарно❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks!
Lovely way of thanking. Thanks!
10 of 10 to sita air 9N-AHR for touch down right at runway number while landing. ❤
Đẹp quá ♥️
I have worked in aerospace all my life...I would be applauding as well, after that landing. That is dangerous terrain.
Пожалуй, полетаю сегодня в vr на daher вокруг эвереста.
That slope! I do wonder how much it saves on landings and take off... 50m? 100 meters? Some of these aircrafts could probably take of from a large aircraft carrier without the launch hook...
Xin chào anh chị ngày mới giao lưu cùng kênh vui vẻ ✌️
am i see it wrong or has lukla airport got a new fresh layer of asphalt and stripes looks fresh
Weird theory but: due to the skill of the pilots landing there and (probably) different safety measures, it actually is a pretty safe airport
Single engine helis, are they safe enough to fly around these mountains like that ? Most planes that land there are twins. Its also interesting that most shut down the engines almost immediately after turning off the runway, not much of a cooling period for the turbines ?
They're pulling quite a hole shot off the line almost ramping the crest of the hill
😀👍
When do they have time to service these planes they’re non stop
Why is the sound of turboprops so intoxicating? Or maybe it's just me.
That Twin Otter beats em all.
Looks like no go arounds on a botched approach...only one way in I'm guessing..
Do they have aviation fuel at this airport? If they do how is it brought in? Thank you for the video...
They have enough to do the return journey and reserves for holding but I would assume there’s some spare up there
Jeez! Until seeing that Turbolet, I thought that the ugliest bird in the flock was the Metroliner.
It's like jet launching on aircraft carrier but this without catapult....?

Can someone please tell me in the event of an engine failure on take off there is no room to shut down what happens ?
dead bro lol
@@flyingaesthetics2
That’s what I was thinking 😂
There's plenty of room below to gain airspeed 😁
You probably ain’t gonna make it back unharmed
☠️
Base Camp is the maximum altitude the helicopter can safely reach.
What if pilot is unable to take off at the last moment? Plane may fall down?
There is a cliff edge at the end of the runway so that is entirely likely
Isn’t this the James Bond airport from golden eye ?
Similar but I believe that one is courchevel
"One of the world's most challenging airports" Old St Barts hands: "Tchah. Hold my daiquiri"
So it isnt?
Approaches are fun at both of them, but at St Barts you do at least have the option of a go-around if you mess up. Here you don't have to nose-dive down a hill to get onto the runway, but you're going to go 💥 into the mountain if you don't brake quickly enough. At least the uphill runway should help to slow you down 🤦
*pressure altitude enters the chat*
@@AndreiTupolevI’ve done both now and I can’t decide which one was more fun. However Lukla feels like more of a once in a lifetime kind to go to
في اي بلد هذا المطار؟؟؟
Nepal
The runway is only about 550mtrs long
Asmr
You know its dangerous when people clap when you land safely
India,guj.rajkot
Only airport where it's okay to clap after landing.
Europeans clap after landing safely I have found.
Clapping on landing before the MF has got it stopped. You know contact with the ground ain’t the main bit there, right?!
Wasn’t me!
Of the three things that are useless to a pilot 1) fuel left at the FBO, 2) the altitude above you, and this one 3) the runway behind you is the most importing thing to have when taking off at this airport. Use every inch available.
Why is the place so busy if it's tiny? all tourists?
It’s the airport that people fly to to start the trek to Mount Everest base camp
@@Calsaviation yeah but I thought it was only a handful of fools per year :)
0:57 can’t park there mate double yellows
Хлопающие в салоне бараны видимо никогда не переведутся. Что мешает после полета поблагодарить пилота лично?
как маршрутки , только водилы ключи не крутят
I live in London england , i will never ever be travelling anywhere near the himalayas . What for ?
People travel here to start hikes to Mount Everest base camp
저런 비양구들이 바닥에서 회전같은걸 어떻게 하느거임?
회전할때 보니 꼬리날개가 움직이는것도 아닌데..
One of the deadliest Airport in the world. hundreds of people lost their life in this Airport.
Lies. Only bout 50 deaths so far.
I recognise the Dornier and Twin Otter, what was the other ugly type.
It's not a difficult airport, it's just committal. You don't have great options for aborting a take off. If your plane doesn't work, you have a problem.
19:39 the aircraft is a Czech Let L-410 Turbolet
The Let L-410 Turbolet has experienced 118 accidents out of a total production and export of 1,200 units. The design of the aircraft has less influence on its safety record than the operational practices that some customers and regulators have opted to use.

I read all of the bad things about this aircraft, it actually made me want to fly on it more! I felt completely safe onboard, had some fun turbulence weaving through the hilltops. Plenty of screams from passengers
been to Nepal 18 times. All aviation is dangerous in Nepal cause the pilots are potato farmers. Almost zero training. Very dangerous. Don't fly in Nepal.
Your comment is deep, has many layers to it and I think I know what you are trying to do.🙂
