I would say that learning neutral should come first, and then you learn how to do your most damaging combos. No point in learning those crazy combos if you can’t put yourself in situations where you actually use them
@@NotJohnnyKim I think for me neutral is just harder to grasp than big combo's and pressure. Honestly I had this whole answer typed in about learning neutral not giving rewards without knowing big combo's either untill I realised that I actually don't really know how neutral gives you (big) opportunities. I try to play safe and push my opponent to the corner, that in itself helps a lot but in the corner I only feel a slight advantage and no clear openings. Maybe it's the shimmy's? I'm someone that only play this game casually and stuck at Super Bronze for life, but I really enjoyed this video how you explain this very clearly. Thanks
I'm SupPlat Ryu only player. The update was a welcomed fix to a lot of his shortcomings. I have a love hate relationship with this game. I'm currently sitting on a 17 game winstreak. 1300lp from Diamond. I go months without playing it. Or I just play pure casuals.
I made it to gold but I'm still bad at not using the resources when I have them (V-trigger and meter). I'm the kind of player that waits for the 'hang themselves' moment then applies pressure. I also need to learn what moves each character has that is actually unsafe as opposed to 'looks safe'.
Those tips were completely Bogus. Online Ken is the reason why I'm stuck in Gold. jk. Great Vid. I'll try to develop a better offensive gameplan for my characters :).
I think the problem I run into is not really knowing who my character is. I have a few that I am decent with, but I can never stay on 1 character too long.
For Gold you basically just have to learn how to punish all the moves. Frame data etc to get out of dumb situations. Platinum and up is all mind games really.
in silver you can just meaty your combo string or your throw, it's not hard to get a first knockdown on them and then you just loop em since they don't late tech anything, at least that's the pretty much the only "significant" improvement I made to get out of it
jump forward and neutral jump will get u over fireballs but will leave u vulnerable in the air if your opponent sees it coming and pretty much every character has at least one move that gets them around fireballs so jus try to use these in a way your opponent wont see coming and if your character has a fireball you can use that too. i would say the most important thing is to not be predictable and trying to find their timing
Biggest tip for anything above gold in my Opinion is learn your individual matchups . Learn when your opponent is minus and when you can press a button or go neutral . Stop putting up with fake pressure !
I actually just got into silver and almost at 3000 lp. I still don't use vshift or reversal at all and I still got a ton to learn. Think my problem is characters because I play ed cus my inputs aren't accurate so he's just been easy to play. I'd like to pick up a better character once I get a hitbox or fightstick
I stuck to silver from super silver, before the covid situation they had the game playing online in 4 line selection on the bars really good! But after that they had some really serious lag issues and now if i choose to put it in the online search on 4 i don't see that many ppl popping out like it used to in the request! Only in any now can have those challenges and it is in 3 lines most of the times instead 4-5! I say they messed up their online pretty good, and i was going for the gold league for my trophy as well! Yeah you will say not to play only for the wins but this was showing i was going great and the capcom BOOM ruined all the fun somehow! I am from europe as a region if worth mentioning at all!
Know when to call it a night and play consistently. It would also help if you actually like the game to. I hated the vanilla version of SFV so I took a few years off after the patches. It's way better now except poor (claw)Vega
I'm stuck in Silver, and V-Trigger usage is weird to me because, I play Mika. I know I have a 50/50 setup or a conversion with it but I'm never in the situation I want when I activate it. Like for example, if I sweep and V-trigger, is this the moment to call Nadesko or hold it? If I on, dashing is risky so I do nothing and give up pressure. If I just call her I have to do it now and usually they are blocking. I never seem to know when and what to even though I have labbed some situations. Like is this the time to use THIS setupr or the OTHER setup?
That is something you'll have to either lab out or ask other mika mains who know more on what to do. If you want to investigate it for yourself, I would suggest looking at two things: the frame data and the spacing. Frame data shows you what moves/options you can do before your opponent can try to challenge you. Spacing shows you which of those options will actually work.
Glad I finally found this. I've been at super/ultra silver for about four years, trying to reach gold. Made sure to get Birdie VT activation down years ago thanks to VT vids & my character Discord, but can lose to better players. I study replays, do training, watch vids for matchups, and stop after 1-2 losses in ranked, but haven't found a way to gold. Wish it were easy, or at least moderately tough, but seems extremely difficult. Maybe takes 100s or 1000s of matches, depending.

This is why i still dont use the more complicated Gill combos. You need to learn setups and matchups. Opponents from Bronze to Silver is massive leap in difficulty for me. Well anyways, i just need to see enough of their shenanigans to parry their faces. Silvers i think are starting to have faint idea of frame datas. I dont think they necessarily know the numbers or theyd be way above the ranks. They just know the kit of their characters. Even if they are minus on block, they will use something like an ex shoryuken or Akuma's ki charge to bait you.
i bought the game finally and had fun playing a couple ranked games but then i realized im pure trash and dont play it since it feels like even if i learn all there moves i dont know combos. i wanted to be better oof. One day ill give it a go again.
I made it to Ultra Silver and lost a few matches and already back to normal Silver but a high Silver not only that you lose so many points and half of the time when I do an V Trigger half of the time they don't do it an don't get me started with the lagg an I can admit that I have beaten some Gold Players on Super Silver crazy but True literally with Ryu.
Medium kicks are hard because they reach a good distance away, can usually lead to good damage, and are very hard to whiff punish. The way I like to deal with it is by pre-emptively throwing out a far reaching, heavy normal that crush-counters to try to catch them in the startup of the medium kick, but this is risky if they whiff-punish you. The other way is by whiff-punishing, which is, again, hard. There's a reason people spam medium kicks, even as you get to the higher ranks. Lag abuse can only be avoided by playing people with as little lag as possible. Nothing much to do here.
I'm getting destroyed with CA. Every time I'm about to close the gap i get hit confirmed and CA, and Everytime it's enough to finish me. I don't know how to make them spend their gauge so don't have to worry about CA at the end of the match.

As for bronze players I have a very specific tip. You know the "50/50" setup ken has with his blocked HK tatsu?. On block, ken is at enough disadvantage to eat a jab. More specifically, a 4 frame move, like a light-medium DP if you mash it right. Timing is strict tho, mashing does work anyway
Don't even need a char that has a dp. All 3 and 4 frame chars can punish hk tatsu. i.e jab into punish combo. Also you don't even need to block hk tatsu. It becomes air borne and you can literally anti-air ken while he is in the air. i.e with ryu do dp while ken is in the air with hk tatsu. You just gotta be careful when ken has vt1 with hk tatsu. however I think you can still aa him. It has multiple solutions beyond mashing.
i just donwload the game 2 days before and i am 0 lvl and i queue against people who are 33 lvl and they have 1000 points i have 0 i have never won and sucks.. idk what to do seems pretty hard
Level 33 is actually a very low level. 1,000 points is also very, very low as well. These are new players that you are describing. Just know that fighting games give skills that are cumulative and lifelong. Focus on learning. Getting your ass whooped in the beginning will always be a thing
Just play casuals insted of ranked until you feel comfortable. You won't loose any points and you can level up. I'm superplat and I always play casuals before I go into ranked, it gets the blood flowing and you'll know a few games in if today is your day to be playing ranked. Good luck. Btw. Never play ranked if you haven't gotten a good night sleep and hydrated. Your game play will be sluggish and you will become salty real fast.
I've actually never understood the appeal of playing Ken for beginners since SFIV, he hasn't been a cool character since SFIII but I suppose he was exceptionally easy to get a lot of free damage with in vanilla IV through V
I got this game when it's out. Got into silver. Then I got annoyed by season 1 Rashid, so I said f it and deleted the game. Until it updated Akuma. Well, I like Akuma a lot. So i got back, and got to upper gold. Then I quitted again for Rashid and Alex. Until I noticed there's Seth update. I was a Seth main since super SF4. So I check out his trailer and game play. And all I see just trap Seth lol. But it's still lot of fun watching matches. Especially for Kage matches and Gill.
I'm not the best player in Street Fighter 5 an I used to struggle getting out of Silver rank now days I'm literally passed out of Silver an in Gold rank it is true that they barely block.
We have all looked at street fighter v in the FGC the game is completely a badly developed game, which was stated by the developers🤦♀️ its developed so badly a normal controller cannot do advanced combos 😂 no wonder Capcom is completely redesigning from the mechanics to the cgi and making it look more like marvel vs Capcom which is actually fun, we are all looking forward to street fight 6 can't wait🍺
Bronze Ken players are the true goats of sfv, no one is as confident and fearless as they are, I am convinced a bronze ken player could easily win evo with a blindfold on
Pro-Tip: How to make it to Plat 1. Pick Ken 2. HK Tatsu into throw 3. Once you have 1 bar, HK Tatsu into EX DP 4. ????? 5. Profit Oh, and don't forget to never stop jumping. Remember, you can't be conditioned. Anytime you have a bar mash that EX DP during their block strings.
After the basics, this game is about reaction time and frame data. At the ultra silver level, I play against silver players that execute their full character combos and constantly put me in some frame traps. I strongly believe that the character you pick has a huge influence on your win rate. I really wanted to go back to enjoy street fighter games with my Ryu, but I'll share my view of the game: - The fireball game of Ryu is very predictable. People do a lot of reads with jump-in at the right time. - Ryu's DP is almost vertical (barely any horizontal reach), DPs are subject to trade or even lose to crush counters. Another detail is that a bunch of other characters can change their trajectory mid-air or teleport or any other gimmick and then you are airborne ready to receive a big combo. - Then there is the shitty aspect of the game that some lame character(ex: Cammy, Karin, Mika), they all have gimmicks to quickly go through the Hadouken, any blow is reliable anti-air for them, they make a health lead and stay crouched waiting for your jump-in, or if you dash and try to throw they tech or goes back to the first point where they jump-in after a fireball. It is very frustrating at this point. To jump from silver to Super silver and then Ultra silver I had to incorporate some cheap kill with quick weak blows when my opponent has low health. I think at this point the game becomes an absolute shit show and I really lose the taste for the game when I have to do that. Now to mention a few other things like other characters have better projectiles (ex: This is true power from G), hitting multiple times, anti-air, screen coverage, weird trajectory (diagonally, under, bouncing, you name it ) It feels like Akuma is the only shoto that can handle other character's gimmicks with his own gimmicks, lol Now, the thing that bothers me the most is that we need to memorize which blows leave opening for counter or not. This should be visually intuitive (like the character raining down from the sky, "Yes, it's my turn. NOPE!").
I'm not gonna sit here and try to argue why 90% of what you said is wrong, since I don't think that's even the worst part. The worst part is that you have put up such a strong mental block on yourself that I doubt you will improve past gold if you keep this up. You're going to have to accept that if you're stuck in silver, it's because your gameplay isn't good enough to make it past silver players, and that has nothing to do with character strength or anything like that. I had to do the same when I was silver. If you can accept that your gameplay is truly silver level and others beat you because they played better than you, then you will allow yourself to change, improve, and grow as a player.
@@NotJohnnyKim How about you refute what I said instead of playing the neutral guy? You are a SF5 content creator, so I expect you to disagree with me that the game sucks in some aspects. I think a game where I have to memorize if a move is positive or negative on frame data instead of visual is retarded. But sure you have a lot of time to spend and "learn" the game as oppose to me that I'm just a casual.
Interesting point you make that it should be more visually intuitive when it is your turn. The visuals often suggest that you can make a move while you cannot. This makes the learning curve quite steep.
One thing I find in this game is that it's not always clear when it's time to press a button. You can't always "feel" when a move is minus or not and sometimes have to look up frame data or go to training mode to work it out. 3000-4000 LP: learn some dang neutral (to myself; this is now)
I would say that learning neutral should come first, and then you learn how to do your most damaging combos.
Those are hard for me to predict.

i can define silver as a more educated bronze. Still, I need more practice and matchup knowledge lol. How do you even play footsies against falke?
@@jesumexcraft Falke players have terrible defense, so in the beginning of the match just dash or jump forward it should be in your benefit and in the corner they always jump back. Also just be patient, they are gonna back themselves in a corner pretty quickly
Thats like so true lmao
I'm someone that only play this game casually and stuck at Super Bronze for life, but I really enjoyed this video how you explain this very clearly. Thanks
Even super casuals can get to plat! But as long as you are having fun, more power to you
I'm SupPlat Ryu only player. The update was a welcomed fix to a lot of his shortcomings. I have a love hate relationship with this game. I'm currently sitting on a 17 game winstreak. 1300lp from Diamond. I go months without playing it. Or I just play pure casuals.
Very useful 💪
good content man.
Thanks homie :)
It really is crazy how different the game becomes when you reach diamond. What it takes to improve from there is so demanding
That is definitely true. Been taking a break from sfv because of this
I made it to gold but I'm still bad at not using the resources when I have them (V-trigger and meter).
Or it could be your region. Not all regions are equal in skill. I'm in Toronto Canada and I get pure killers from New York.

Great tips!
I think the problem I run into is not really knowing who my character is. I have a few that I am decent with, but I can never stay on 1 character too long.
Choose a strong character. My main is kage. I play for fun not for rank. Kage is a weak character but has stylish and fun combos
For Gold you basically just have to learn how to punish all the moves. Frame data etc to get out of dumb situations. Platinum and up is all mind games really.
I’ve been stuck in gold for a while. This advice may help!
thanks man, sub for this.
in silver you can just meaty your combo string or your throw, it's not hard to get a first knockdown on them and then you just loop em since they don't late tech anything, at least that's the pretty much the only "significant" improvement I made to get out of it

As a personal thing I would recommend how to counter fireballs for bronze players since guile and gill give me the most trouble.
jump forward and neutral jump will get u over fireballs but will leave u vulnerable in the air if your opponent sees it coming and pretty much every character has at least one move that gets them around fireballs so jus try to use these in a way your opponent wont see coming and if your character has a fireball you can use that too. i would say the most important thing is to not be predictable and trying to find their timing
Maybe I will do a short guide on how to deal with fireballs generally and how the projectile game is played.
Biggest tip for anything above gold in my
Opinion is learn your individual matchups . Learn when your opponent is minus and when you can press a button or go neutral . Stop putting up with fake pressure !
I actually just got into silver and almost at 3000 lp. I still don't use vshift or reversal at all and I still got a ton to learn.
Nice tips 👍
I play mika to although I'm super bad
Glad I finally found this. I've been at super/ultra silver for about four years, trying to reach gold.
Made sure to get Birdie VT activation down years ago thanks to VT vids & my character Discord, but can lose to better players.
I study replays, do training, watch vids for matchups, and stop after 1-2 losses in ranked, but haven't found a way to gold.
Wish it were easy, or at least moderately tough, but seems extremely difficult. Maybe takes 100s or 1000s of matches, depending.

Just need one for Master and Warlord
How about bronze players who spams medium kicks or throws and abuse lags?
Medium kicks are hard because they reach a good distance away, can usually lead to good damage, and are very hard to whiff punish. The way I like to deal with it is by pre-emptively throwing out a far reaching, heavy normal that crush-counters to try to catch them in the startup of the medium kick, but this is risky if they whiff-punish you. The other way is by whiff-punishing, which is, again, hard. There's a reason people spam medium kicks, even as you get to the higher ranks.
Lag abuse can only be avoided by playing people with as little lag as possible. Nothing much to do here.
beautiful and i am super silver and i will focus on the gold tip and report back
I'm getting destroyed with CA.

I'm still stuck on silver though with ryu but I'll try and mash it
Ok definitely don't mash, but keep trying!
i just donwload the game 2 days before and i am 0 lvl and i queue against people who are 33 lvl and they have 1000 points i have 0 i have never won and sucks.. idk what to do seems pretty hard
I’m from the future and I can’t stay out of rookie rank
I've actually never understood the appeal of playing Ken for beginners since SFIV, he hasn't been a cool character since SFIII but I suppose he was exceptionally easy to get a lot of free damage with in vanilla IV through V
He's easy to pick up.

Online ken is the reason im stuck in gold
Pro-Tip: How to make it to Plat
1. Pick Ken
2. HK Tatsu into throw
3. Once you have 1 bar, HK Tatsu into EX DP
4. ?????
5. Profit
Oh, and don't forget to never stop jumping. Remember, you can't be conditioned. Anytime you have a bar mash that EX DP during their block strings.
This is obviously a terrible plan
Lol
After the basics, this game is about reaction time and frame data.
At the ultra silver level, I play against silver players that execute their full character combos and constantly put me in some frame traps.
I strongly believe that the character you pick has a huge influence on your win rate.
I really wanted to go back to enjoy street fighter games with my Ryu, but I'll share my view of the game:
- The fireball game of Ryu is very predictable.
Now to mention a few other things like other characters have better projectiles (ex: This is true power from G), hitting multiple times, anti-air, screen coverage, weird trajectory (diagonally, under, bouncing, you name it )
It feels like Akuma is the only shoto that can handle other character's gimmicks with his own gimmicks, lol
Now, the thing that bothers me the most is that we need to memorize which blows leave opening for counter or not.
