  • Despite the efforts of the government and other actors to eradicate it, sexual and gender-based violence remains prevalent in Uganda. The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent closure of schools exacerbated the problem significantly.
In 2021, Cordaid designed an innovative digital healthcare programme in partnership with the HEROES consortium and Reach a Hand Uganda to respond to the issue and prevent new cases of sexual and gender-based violence.
The programme Making Health Systems Work for Young People and Adolescents in Uganda, also known as the E-Voucher project, contributes to the HEROES for Gender Transformative Approaches project in eastern Uganda.
The programme ensures that survivors of sexual and gender-based violence can access integrated services. It has been implemented in 24 health facilities in 6 districts in eastern Uganda and employs a blend of approaches centred on the engagement of young people.
The participants testify that access to these services and information became possible or improved due to the affordability, confidentiality, and youth friendliness of the approach.
In this short documentary, you will learn more about Cordaid’s systems-strengthening approach within the E-Voucher project.
