America is currently plagued by the hydra-headed evil duo of inflation and recession. The worst part about this recession is that consumers are racking up credit card debt. In April alone, credit card debt went up 20% while rates have doubled in a year. Inflation is so high that consumers are literally taking debt for basic life necessities. Collapse has indeed begun..

Asking for advice or assistance from a consultant or investment coach is the best line of action if you lack market understanding. Even though it sounds cliche or apparent, talking to a consultant has helped me stay afloat in the market and increase my portfolio to roughly 65% since January 2023. That, in my opinion, is now the most successful strategy for entering the market.

In LA, a number of the working poor sleep overnight every night on those buses before clocking into work..... Then spend most of the day working only to go to sleep on a bus and repeat this cycle over and over again just to sleep in a place safer than a tent. Then you have to get off the bus when it reaches the last stop and walk to the bus stop and wait for the next bus. I've had to experience that before when I worked as a dishwasher at a restaurant on Hollywood Blvd....
Oh my, I've slept on the bus. Actually, everyone knew each other, because we all took the same bus at the same time, so we knew each other's stops, and woke each other up at the right stop.
I know a guy who used to take the bus to work here in New Jersey. He fell asleep once on the bus he was so tired and woke in NYC, last stop. About 90 minutes away from the job
The best thing my grandmother ever did was save her 2 story house, 6 bedroom 2 full baths she always paid into the house 🏠 and took care of it and we never understood why she hanged on to the house when we grew up and everyone left, but when she passed away she left it to my mother and my favorite auntie and now my causin my kids my mom live in thw house and only pay for utilities is only 300 dollars a month because we own the house. And land tax is a thousand a month, love ❤️ you grandma 👵 best thing she ever did ❤️
@kaui - Bingo. Our grandparents & older parents remembered the hard years, saving vs spending money on fun or themselves until they felt enough of a fiscal security buffer. I'm the daughter of parents who grew from a very young age into the Great Depression - their fathers tied strings on their shoes to keep the soles attached, sometimes went weeks without any meat for the kids, and taught a frugality that is incomprehensible for many today. If you were fortunate enough to keep the family's biggest asset, the house/home, you did everything to keep it up.
@kaui - previous reply seems lost in posting (anyone else noticed this happening more frequently?), but essentially - learn from your grandmother's thrift, AND focus - it was important that she could provide the security to family, regardless if she would see the fruits of her labor & love. May God bless her, and your family - never take for granted that she could just as easily spent the resources on anything but the house & upkeep, but chose family security instead :)

Both houses & cars have become too expensive for most Americans these days, most especially for single people and/or single-income households. Even a lot of 2 income households can't afford them.
This issue has been exacerbated by the practices of insurance companies, which can have negative effects as well. Some insurance companies may contribute to rising prices by providing coverage that encourages risky lending and speculation. Additionally, certain insurance policies can be expensive, making it even more challenging for families to secure affordable properties. It's important for individuals tor consider diversifying their income streams, independent of government reliance, as a wise approach in the current situation.
What if you don't know how to trade any of these? I mean, see your point some people have the money and are willing to invest, the question is where to.
My mom was laid off from Bank of America in 2006, and my Dad from HP in 2008. It took them years and years to recover. Even to this day they always have something in their back pockets just in case. I’ll be damned if they didn’t give me and my brother the best childhood ever. Whatever money they had went to our happiness.
My father too. He gave the family everything and more. My childhood was extravagant with the amount he would spend on me and my sister. The whole family wanted for nothing. Like your parents, my father always has something in his back pocket (we were also hit extremely hard during 2008 and are still recovering) and he still went above and beyond to give me it all. Because everything in the US is treated as an “individual” issue instead of systemic corruption. They want us to believe if we work hard enough, we too can have the “American Dream.” But that dream is just that, a dream. Not a reality for anyone except those born rich or those who were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.
I'm 70, born here in America, and this is so hard to watch. These good, diligent people are what keeps America up and running, yet they live at or below poverty level. It's wrong on so many levels. Hard working and having nothing to show for it is now the hallmark of America. And I'm nearly there with you. I am holding on with both hands clasped like a boxer. I tried to get help with food, but because I own my car, I was deemed ineligible. The rich have no interest in helping. And by the rich, I mean Congress and Senate, and billionaires who got there on the backs of people like these. Every night my prayers are for people just like you. You are not forgotten, even though every day you may feel unseen.
It’s the same here in the UK they are literally over pricing us off the streets. They also want to abolish middle class. There will eventually be the upper and lower class only.

The most significant change I made was leaving South Georgia, where I was born and raised, after working for 7 years in a warehouse, earning only $17k annually with minimal raises. The living costs were too high, and the healthcare was subpar. I decided to pursue my dream of working in information technology. After almost a year of daily job applications, facing unprofessional employers and ghosting, and recruiters making false promises, I finally landed a job out of state in the Midwest. I'm grateful for the opportunity to improve my life, now making $41k instead of $17k.

this is the kind of content i came to the comment section for, you were in a bad position but you worked hard to get out of it, congratulations, if you want to build security and make future job searches a chance to move up further heres the best advice ive ever gotten, i strongly suggest getting linkedin and connecting with everyone you meet professionally, its like playing adult pokemon (gotta catch em all) but the more you build your network in your specialty (like IT) the more visible you are to recruiters (because your friends likely know the recruiters), that way if you ever decide you want to move or get fired/layed off or even want to move up with experience you just switch your settings to be looking for work visible to recruiters, once you build your network big enough you can practice your profession almost anywhere in the country and job hunting is much easier, another lifehack about job interviews i wish i was told as a teenager, dont go in there thinking "i hope i get it" go in there thinking "they would miss out so much not hiring me i have so much to offer them" it gives you more confidence on the surface,

There aren’t even any incentives and “paid” benefits anymore. You generally pay for your own benefits. Survival shouldn’t be the incentive, thriving should. We live in a sick place.
You made a real good point , these fast food places use to give free meals which was a great incentive and helped feed families and made working at these large corporations kind of great in a way you got free food , they should bring that back least they can do , I remember growing up and going to a friends house his dad worked at a local Wendy’s and brought home chicken tenders 25 years ago and I thought that was the koolest thing ever we pigged out in those tenders it made our night some nights
I've talked to some very wealthy people and it's always the same. They hire accountants who are looking for (and find) every possible tax break and these very wealthy just want more, more, and more.
The problem with what you're saying is you're putting the responsibility for a person thriving outside of that person. It's our responsibility to thrive, and to do so requires self reliance, not a society infrastructure. This ain't to say society isn't destructive and evil in its current state, but it is to say you're unhappiness at the root is this idea you have that it's society's responsibility. you've subconsciously committed to perpetuating that society's modus operandi by relying on it, thus you're ironically perpetuating the very evil you complain about. What I'm driving at here is we need relative health, food, shelter and friends. That's all happiness and thriving requires, everything else is an illusion including any roadblocks you see preventing you from food, shelter and friends. Nothing stops you or anyone from going off establishing a homestead or being nomadic herders with a group of like minded companions and starting your own society. Your unhappiness lies in the fact you cannot create an adhoc connection to some existing perfect society which will deliver an appropriate allotment of happiness to your doorstep on a monthly basis. People like you need to understand that your pursuit of some utopian society that has systemically conquered poverty and is equally beneficial to all is what ends up removing freedoms and enslaves us. Stop focusing outside yourself, focus on you, fix that and then work your way out and pull others into your orbit. Stop trying to find some pre-existing social construct to identify with, make your own

The picture that you pointed out is now headed toward white-collar workers who were in roles that used to be somewhat immune to job loss. Now accountants, managers, IT people are losing jobs, because their work in many cases now can be outsourced to low wage places, where workers will do the same work for half the salary. it is a race to the bottom economically, companies move to low wage places until wages start to rise in those places, then the move to the next low wage place, there is no loyalty to the workers that helped those companies build brandnames and grow wealthy..

I lived as a student in the USA 20 years ago, and I am surprised the salaries have not increased significantly since then. I am Polish, and the average salary in Poland since 2003 has tripled, the minimum wage increased by 525%. I know it is still much below the US, but you get free public health care, public schools (universities too), 26 days of paid holiday, and 80% of your regular salary on sick leave, you get retirement, health pension, social apartments, and despite that the economy is still growing. I am not a socialist, but I think that some level of social protection for the regular people has a positive impact on the economy. Having that said, I produce furniture, employ 150 people, and I am still able to compete with Chinese manufacturers.
I run a restaurant in Maryland and I would love to employ Germania. We are paying $17-$20 here so she does not have to work as much hours. I love her fighting spirits.
What's the average rent in Maryland around your restaurant? Can someone pay rent, keep a car running, and see a dr at the same time working for 17-20 where your restaurant is? It took me moving to NH and earning at least 20 to cover bills and have any kind of emergency savings. Now the rent is getting so high here i may have to move on if i ever want to buy a place and build equity.

I watched this video for the first time a couple of years ago, I think. After I saw it, I felt a lot more compassion for people who serve me. Now, I bite my tongue if there is slow or poor service and I choose my words carefully if I need to complain. This was an impactful video. After I saw it, I never again looked down on people working at McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts or restaurants. And I leave a generous tip, even for takeout.

Just until about 2 months ago. I was working 4 jobs, 70+ hours a week, 7 days a week. I finally got a decent job bringing in over minimum wage but I still keep a second job for grocery money and savings. Life is expensive.

I got myself in trouble 5 years ago. I paid my debt to society and I'm not the kind of man who thinks the world owes me. I'm accountable for my actions. I was a corporate chef briefly. It unnerved me to see what GE did in this video up close and personal. The company I worked for would lay off employees around October. Dozens of long tenured employees, in tears devastated . I would serve them one last meal, they would hire young replacements. Then in April ,stocks would climb 15-20 percent , and be redistributed to the delight of the board members.
What a heartbreaking story! I'm ashamed to live in a country that chews people up and spits them out. I'm 66 and don't have much more time left, but in my years of life, I've seen so much inequality. I'm fortunate; I was born at a time when my career intersected with the world of PCs, then the internet, then smartphones. I was employed in each industry, then had my own business, and now I'm retired with my own home and car, both paid for. I have life-saving IRA money that earns me passive income. STILL, so VERY much was due to luck. I went to college when it was cheap enough that my father gave me a free ride, and I graduated with zero debt. I developed a passion for computers just when the industry was hungry for such people. I married a wonderful woman who made my life happy and complete. Yet if I had made a single bad decission, I could EASILY have wound up in a tent city.
Fast food jobs are far from 'no-skill.' They require multitasking, customer service excellence, teamwork, technical proficiency, and financial management. These roles are demanding and play a crucial role in our daily lives. Everyone deserves to earn a living wage, reflecting the dignity and value of their work. Recognizing the skill and effort fast food workers contribute is essential for economic fairness.
You don't get paid based upon your lifestyle. You do get a living wage from any full time job, it's just obviously not the living you want to do. Do you have a smart phone? Clothes and food etc? You know people used to make their own clothes to save money
I worked at Dunkin before enlisting in the USAF and loved it... can't imagine what Germania is going through between both of those jobs and raising kids though. Different level of strength, the backbone of this nation is made up of the unappreciated masses.
As the world crisis progresses the smartest thing people do lately is building a strong investment that isn’t controlled by the government. Like digital currencies.
Absolutely! Building a strong investment that isn’t controlled by the government is a smart move in todays unpredictable economy. digital assets offer a unique opportunity for financial independence.
Germania is beautiful what a brilliant mother, worked into the ground to survive, shes an absolute winner. I hope she gets the life she works so hard for..
It annoys me when I see a comment talking about save your money. How can you save money when wages do not keep up with the increase in expenses (auto insurance/home insurance rates are ridiculous, gas/groceries are expensive, and then life happens you still need to maintain your car/home on top of that). That means your savings account will take a hit, you have to start using credit and get into debt, or juggle bills (be late month, catch up the next month, etc.) I just get annoyed when privileged people assume that most people should be well off.
Whatever you own, do not believe it is pointless to save. I got most of my wealth during unemployed cause I saved as much as a could. It does require a frugal lifestyle, spending less on trinkets, enjoying a bit less, repairing, re-using, lending stuff, repurpose, cooking at home, freezing etc. I read about the stock market, the pros and cons of retirement accounts, gold, etc. Everything helps.
It’s easier to save if you don’t have any addictions or and you cook your meals instead of buying prepared food or eating fast food. Yes you can save a little and over time save. A lot of people that are homeless have addictions.
What a crazy system. My dad bought a huge 3 bed detached house with front and back gardens on an entry level repairman salary in 1969. My mother didn’t work, I was 2 and my sister was newborn. America is currently plagued by the hydra-headed evil duo of inflation and recession. The worst part about this recession is that consumers are racking up credit card debt.

Well these things are cyclical, traditionally western economies have gone thru these periods however, where I worry, and then agree with you, is that we are now in a global economy and it’s causing a great levelling - meaning you in the US and a person in India are heading in opposite directions towards a global middle ~ for us in the west that means a decline in living standards
Having conversations with homeless folk in my area really put it in perspective for me. A lot of us are one paycheck away from homelessness

I'm happy for you! This is only the beginning!!

So… no one wants to take care of the bosses and managers that like to “keep you in your place” or belittle you in front of other employees? Many like us have missed out on child rearing or exploring a new hobby that makes life worth living. Im not grateful for working as a slave. We need to be more proactive. if you want to build security and make future job searches a chance to move up further heres the best advice ive ever gotten,
i strongly suggest getting linkedin and connecting with everyone you meet professionally, its like playing adult pokemon (gotta catch em all) but the more you build your network in your specialty (like IT) the more visible you are to recruiters (because your friends likely know the recruiters),
that way if you ever decide you want to move or get fired/layed off or even want to move up with experience you just switch your settings to be looking for work visible to recruiters,
once you build your network big enough you can practice your profession almost anywhere in the country and job hunting is much easier,

Greed greed greed

@ih8leftistfilth A lot of these fast food chains are open 24/7. Child labor laws in my state prevent minors from working past 9:00 p.m. Then during the day they're at school.

Having that said, I produce furniture, employ 150 people, and I am still able to compete with Chinese manufacturers.
Wow
Salaries did increase in a past 20 years, what are you talking about? Before minimum wage was like $6, now it’s at least $15 (in this State anyway).
Did you live in Massachusetts?
@@TheTravis9227 I noticed at the end that this documentary was filmed in 2014. I thought it was newer.

I run a restaurant in Maryland and I would love to employ Germania. We are paying $17-$20 here so she does not have to work as much hours. I love her fighting spirits.
Try to find her… another commenter said they thought they had, and are looking for others to join in helping her
I live in Maryland and I’m similar situations how do I apply?
What's the average rent in Maryland around your restaurant? Can someone pay rent, keep a car running, and see a dr at the same time working for 17-20 where your restaurant is? It took me moving to NH and earning at least 20 to cover bills and have any kind of emergency savings. Now the rent is getting so high here i may have to move on if i ever want to buy a place and build equity.
I am the chef of a restaurant in CT, if Germania sees this, I would love to hire her. We pay on avg $20 for cooks.
@@TC-8789 price of a 1 bedroom here in MD varies greatly depending what city you're in. Baltimore can be cheap, Hagerstown is cheap. Bethesda is expensive. The whole area surrounding DC is expensive. There's 1br units going for 1700 around me in prince George's county. Gas is about $3.35 right now
I was a young roofer in 1983..l was making 5 dollars an hour..for the work we were doing ,we were underpaid, but as this young lady, you gotta work. What l'm getting at is l'm 64 now..in 40!!! Years in the U.S, this child is only making 3 dollars and a half more than l did 40 freaking years ago...unjustly incredible..
Well said that man.
$5/h in 1983 would be $15.30 today. In real terms (ie the amount of stuff she can buy), her salary is half what yours was.
Take note, inflation, insurance rates, medical co-pay, price of food today, price of car insurance and registration, insane price of vehicles plus insane price of repairs, Gas price, etc. etc.......the dollar does not buy the same as 40 years ago.
I don't want to make it political , but the moment a young man goes to his first job in (for example) construction in the Netherlands , the government automatically sends them an application to apply for a Union membership. Now it's their own choice to join offcourse. But I must say, Unions can put a lot of pressure on employees when it comes to salaries.

Kuddos to you for learning from this. So many people would watch this, but it wouldn't penetrate their callused hearts. A little compassion goes a long wat❤❤😊

I got myself in trouble 5 years ago. I paid my debt to society and I'm not the kind of man who thinks the world owes me. I'm accountable for my actions. I have to work 2 sometimes 3 jobs just to make it. These jobs pick and choose who they want to give hours too. Life is cruel and harsh but I'm humbled I'm not incarcerated which was the darkest time in my life. I stay away from negative people and negative environments. It's difficult being a 47 year old black man living in the south but I make no excuses, life is a grind. Stay strong who's reading this . 💪
Pick up a trade.. it’s never too late. I know a guy that served over 20 years for a murder, became an electrician and now makes 80k+ a year. Trade jobs don’t care about a record.

This system is brutal. Chews us up and spits us out.

Mopping the floor is an extremely skilled task Lmao
How many executives do you know that are cross-trained in every portion of their company?@@mudbuff
No they don't. A living wage doesn't exist. You would have fast food workers in big cities making more than nurses in small towns. Makes no sense
You don't get paid based upon your lifestyle. You do get a living wage from any full time job, it's just obviously not the living you want to do. Do you have a smart phone? Clothes and food etc? You know people used to make their own clothes to save money
if skills are so valuable. why is pay rate garbage?
I worked at Dunkin before enlisting in the USAF and loved it... can't imagine what Germania is going through between both of those jobs and raising kids though. Different level of strength, the backbone of this nation is made up of the unappreciated masses.
The idea is to economically force most poor into a STASI, Chekist "job". This is Neo-communism, a Crony Corporate structure.
As the world crisis progresses the smartest thing people do lately is building a strong investment that isn’t controlled by the government. Like digital currencies.

Most accurate comment xxxx ❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@ileanahope466 a lot of people have addicitions because they're homeless
What a crazy system. My dad bought a huge 3 bed detached house with front and back gardens on an entry level repairman salary in 1969. My mother didn’t work, I was 2 and my sister was newborn. Did you ever wonder who was president and what party was in power? Then you will see how we benefit from voting for the Democrats.

This country is heading to the toilet, regardless of biden or trump. We are hesding to our doom. @@ArmandaV-s4b I hear you, and agree with that to a degree. In today’s global economy, it does not matter who you vote for, those days are gone. Being able to graduate high school and get an entry level manufacturing job that can get you a middle class life is a thing of the past. It’s not coming back, no matter what the Republicans tell them, and a lot of them believe the lie. Its keeps us in a holding pattern when a good portion of the population thinks one party can magically turn back time. We are stuck 1/2 of us trying to look forward and 1/2 of us desperately looking back to a past that is gone.
You can be lucky to get a studio apartment. No pets either. And sometimes the hot water doesn't work. Don't worry your slum lord won't do a thing to fix ANYTHING either. All for 1200 a month. And thats on the cheap side.
supply and demand has changed that. Houses are in such demand now that they have to raise prices. Working at fast food all day is not enough to buy a house. That is why people go to college and get a degree. She picked this career path and she can easily change it but she doesn't.
The fact that any company like McD’s or Dunkin’ only pays $8/hr in 2024 tells you all you need to know about how greedy they are. The cost of fast food has skyrocketed, yet employees are still paid like it’s the early 2000s. 🙄 No wonder the ‘fight for $15’ movement has taken off over the years. $15/hr really IS the new $7/hr.
This video was made several years ago back when $8/hr was more common
At about 19:04, the video shows it’s around April 2016. I was confused too when the narrator mentions the recession - she’s referencing the 2007/8 recession. Nonetheless, the video remains true in 2024
Walmart workers get > $11/hr now. Isn't the real problem that government is printing money without restraint causing epic levels of inflation?
@josephl6727 So what is your solution? Pay people more then the business ceases to exist or it moves away? The problem is much deeper than economics. Poor people always blame others yet they consistently vote for the very people who create these problem -- liberals. Leftist liberals destroy the middle class because they want a permanent underclass.
