your best bet with the liquid N is to use a small (12”X12”X12”) thick walled styrene/styrofoam cooler. Also, you can preheat the receptacle to facilitate the bushing going in. And yes, you CAN recycle liquid N.

I buy several cans of air duster at WallyWorld. Turn them upside down and spray away. Got a big piece? Get a helper and spray 4 cans at once. It will freeze it in no time.

Use leather welder's chaps to protect lower legs. Get a LN rated full face shield (not a wrap around mask). Placeing part in the bucket first and then pouring LN in minimizes splashes. For conserving LN the funnel should be LN rated as it will shatter. I used LN in a label environment. Preheating the bore also helps when a crush fit is involved.

Plasma cutter, laser cutter, cutting torch, oxygen lance, electro gauging - all have the same principle: getting metal hotter than the sun and then blow the molten metal away. Kurtis from CEE Australia has a few videos on his channel where he uses electro gauging (compressed air), mostly on repairing dozer blades and grader blades. 😎✌️

That liquid nitrogen process is used almost identically in the engine building business. When you sleeve an engine, they do that. With liquid nitrogen, they dip it in there. Steve Morris on his TH-cam channel shows how to do that if you're curious.

I can tell you my experience with liquid nitrogen is very extensive due to my military job. Liquid nitrogen is stored at -397 when you put put the metal in it and you put the lid on it and you could view the rushing out air was because the liquid was boiling off in order to get the metal down to temp. when it stopped blowing overboard you was spot on, Just make sure you don't contain it in something it will build pressure into the thousand's of psi, when using nitrogen it will suck the oxygen out of the room I've personally watch birds that came into our shop pass out and fall out of the sky hope this info helps I love watching the show it keeps me going in laughter and food for thought.

Carbon rod + high amps + air under pressure, and you have the old air arc setup. A carbon rod with high amps flowing thru it melts the steel and the compressed air blows it out as it melts. I have seen 8 inch thick steel plates and 12 inch forged shafts cut with them. Very effective and quick but makes a rough cut very cheaply.

Thought your mini wand was an awesome piece of kit Clint, just the tool for those troublesome pins as you could be quite delicate. Had a guy come out to a demo job years ago when not many people had seen one working - absolutely amazing as he burned through a heavy bridge abutments - didn't seem to make much difference to him what he came up against - steel / concrete / rock - it all just melted. Mind you, his lances were rather larger and he got through them at an alarming rate!

We used to do large bushings every day on large valve/actuator mounting. They had to be a slip fit so we relied on flapper wheels to clean the bores and 1 inch wide 180 grit sandpaper for the coupling. Kept us from having to hammer them in but it allowed the bushing to be removable in case something needed repair. Huge valves for pulp mills etc. You guys did a good job boring and fitting pins!

Back at Mohawk Rubber in the 60/70s we used dry ice to shrink 18 inch bronze bushings for the 80 inch line mills that compounded rubber. It came in 12/12/1 inch plates or granulized in brown paper bags and easy to work with.

Haha Mason has gone full on C&C uniform recently with the beige work dungarees 🤣
But good to see he seems to have grown in confidence.

Whenever use freeze one part , you need to heat the other. One contracts, the other expands. I have installed a lot of bushings and bearings that way. That one packed inside and outside with snow for the time waiting for the liquid nitrogene would have been enough to cool it with the other part heated well.

You need to set GO - NO GO gages (snap gages). Heat (not cherry red) and freeze in freezer and use CO2. Set up porta power to pull sleeve. Gotta be quick with all of this. We had flywheels around 3 ft dia 6" thick to reinstall on a 4" shaft. It went back on a lot easier than it pulled off. Always great, educational videos. Still waiting for some of Kevin's goofyness to infect Tucker. Thanks

Clint, the best way I've found to remove those bushings is with the Saw/Saw and a good blade. I watch Cutting Edge almost as much as I do you Clint, You're right he does know his stuff The main thing is to see if you can dry fit your pin before you freeze it, because if it doesn't drop straight in, it's going to be a bad day GREAT VIDEO

I should be out working, but this video sure reminded me of working on the TD -20 they had where I worked in the 70's. We rebuilt all the pins and bushing on the blade too. We didn't have that fancy torch that blew a hole thru the pin, what a tool. Keep up the good work. Will be watching the rebuilt on the other side. Our tilt cylinder was on the left, yours on the right, interesting.
That little but mighty GT50 forklift is one good machine, your work would stop if you didn't have it. Love the big forklift too, and that large lifting crane outside.
Someday will make a visit and browse you equipment lot, not too far away in Ohio.

If in the future you had to change A pin. It's a pita and expensive to remove the blade for ONE. So do em all while it's off. Like a commercial building with lights.....change every bulb, not just one....another in two days....on and on and on.
