As Tolkein said, at least in Europe, major cities arent founded at the mouth of rivers. The deltas are swampy and difficult to build on. You put it outside the delta, where the river is easier to work around.
The "hyper optimised" bit at 28:00 was absolutely crushing to watch. He managed a whopping 28 useful build sites within the 4 tax collectors radius. Without any effort at all he raced past the possible 64, and even managed to crush the ultra simple and lazy 56. Impressive stuff
I wouldn't really call it a "lesser developed version". It looks similar and has similar base mechanics, but it's both missing features from K&C and has features K&C doesn't have that it stands on its own. For example, there's no combat in this (which lends to its "idle" nature), but this has those progression and random quests, it's less annoying to plan and optimize city layouts as most buildings seem to be 1x1, and it has an "incremental" vibe to it with those massively increasing values.
I like how the population goal reward was 50t but you were earning 0.11s at 51:25, so the reward was equal to the amount of wisdom you were earning in every 5 nanoseconds
Potato pitching a new indie game: ehhh it's fine, just mess around, no need to understand EVERYTHING Potato playing Civ6: MSPAINT LECTURE ABOUT ROI FROM THE BUILDER CARD
Some of the graphics/animations/mechanics look heavily inspired by, if not ripped off from, Kingdoms and Castles. The overall progression is distinct, but a lot of the details are eerily similar.
i mena idk if its the case here but i know alot of indie devs use packages with alot of buildings designs sprites etc for their games as they prefer to pay some money for all the visual stuff instead of spending hours and hours on design
Oh, I see Potato has never played Factory Town. Would be interesting to see whether Factory Town would be more of less addicting to Potato than this one!
So many Banished-like games out there, and new ones seemingly every month. Who would of thought that weird little game from a decade ago would spawn so many spin offs.
Caesar is the first grid-based resource management city builder style game I can think of that did the citizen amenities with radii to make efficient layout micromanagement part of it's gameplay loop. That was followed by the Settlers series which added the semi-RTS conquest of maps, and the Anno games further improved upon that. I love Banished, but this genre goes back a couple decades further.😀
Potato, so you knew about Northgard and did not record it? Thats a crime i believe. Assuming people on channel used to one player games probably record some conquests? Conquests are fun and kinda like eternal campaign mode which is also fun, but you probably know it it is for any one unaware I learnt to play civ kinda well from you and looking forward to learn couple new tricks for northgard too!
m = million, b = billiob, t = triilion, q = quadrillion, Q = quintillion, s = sextilion, S = septilion, o = Octiolion, ...... every levle you go up it means adding 000 to the end of your number so 1o = 1 octillion = 1 with 8 * 000 = 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000
"I want to play Kingdoms and Castles!" "We have Kingdoms and Castles at home!" Kingdoms and Castles at home: The progression is distinct and special, but the art style is ripped off from Kingdoms and Castles.
Remember a few days ago when you made that post asking if your audience considered you a shill and a sell out? Look at your recent videos, look at how click-bait the titles are for the sponsored videos, at the thumbnail style, at how very obvious it is that those videos were not made for your main audience but rather to capture as many as possible. but then look at the view counts of those videos. Yes, you sold out, but the numbers don't lie, you need to sell out to be successful. That being said, this was a fun video and I'll be picking this game up in no time. Edit: This is even your profile's main tag (or whatever it is called): "If you are inquiring about a sponsored video please remember to include a [Sponsorship] tag or word in the e-mail headline. It will make it much less likely to be buried in my inbox as I can filter for them." You care so much about sponsorships that you address them immediately upon arriving to your channel. Like if it walks, like a duck, quacks like a duck, and wants sponsorships more than subscribers, it's probably a sell out.
Anyone else find it very difficult when he was repeatedly mispronouncing milliner? 😂 Potato, the second i is soft the same as the first so it's said like mill-ih-nr

Meanwhile, in the Netherlands: "Hold my beer!"
Lots and lots of exceptions to that
i didn't know tolkien was famous for his opinions on city planning
Tolkien did a lot of research for the world building in his book. Origins of cities especially London was well within his wheelhouse.
@pingienator Venice be like " hold mine too"
I find it funny he sells the game to us as a casual game and in classic potato fashion turns this into a hyper-optimized micro management game 😂

“Mom I want to play Kingdoms & Castles!”
“We have Kingdoms & Castles at home!”

This game feels so much like a lesser developed version of Kingdoms and Castles-
COMPLETELY, thats what i was thinking, visualy its sooooo similar
I mean he can, I just felt like it was something similar to Kingdoms and Castles and was stating that lmao. No reason to get so vexxed about it man.

It's much more focused on the city than in wars, I like that, perso

You didn't even notice the one at 13:11 :)

I love when you try these small games and show them off. I wish you'd go back to them more!
Damn 8 years is a long time on one game.
Before you start.. I know in game days.. I’m kidding.
Hell yeah 'Tato, you capitalize on the "doing ____ for ____ days!" format
Are you saying that potato is lying to us?
this strikes me as a much more approachable factory town game - and I loved factory town
Kingdoms and Castles seems to have strongly inspired this game, down to the art style
i mena idk if its the case here but i know alot of indie devs use packages with alot of buildings designs sprites etc for their games as they prefer to pay some money for all the visual stuff instead of spending hours and hours on design
I hope you will make another video of that game, it was really fun to watch! :)
quadrillion to Quintillion in idle games is often denoted by lower case and capital q
Idle games are my jam. Interested to see this one
I've been playing CivIdle which is bigger on the resource management, but MicroCivilization has been my recent go-to idle empire game.
I had to double check my playback speed on this video 😂 nope, he just talks that fast. I like it
54:10 Man is finally realizing what I've been thinking the whole time watching this vid lol
And I'm only now realizing that I've been watching for an hour now...
My favourite civ 6 gamer
this reminds me of the anno series of games.
This reminds me a lot of Factory Town, which is great because I loved that game
added it to my cart based on ur title alone lol. i adore idle games
Oh, I see Potato has never played Factory Town. Would be interesting to see whether Factory Town would be more of less addicting to Potato than this one!
"Ask your mom" hahahaha

Hey potato, if you like this game you might also like kingdoms and Castles.
This is exactly what I was thinking. The look is very similar.
"Houses have hweat"

I subbed just because of the TH-cam Channel name 😂😂
If you thought this game was good, you should try Urbek City Builder. Same game concept, but I think they did it much better imo

you need to update us on your proggress on this game sometime
This is a really interesting game
1 septillion per second... This is not my kinda game, but damn that's impressive.

potato you should try pocket city
Every time you delete a whole area of 35 buildings I cringe
why does he speed up his videos by 33%? he sounds way more normal on 0.75 speed
