    This is one of the most interesting places in the Fallout Universe. I love the detail of the toxins coming out of the rivers, and all the detail in the factories, and I love how awesome all the presses, and cranes, and heavy machinery looks. However, I have one question, why does Pittsburgh get all the cool stuff? Fully functional heavy industry, steel-cutting blades that spin and slice stuff to bits, steel industry? Why should they get it, why not give similar stuff to other towns? If this town was to get rid of the salve labour, and pay people to make this, and sell the steel and slag to the Brotherhood of Steel or something so they can build more airships or whatever, then they would be incredibly rich.

    • @tylersoto7465

      That what I thought too , but the brotherhood of steel are practically broke in broken steel dlc , but if the courier took over point lookout and use the robots from Robco building and robot repair factory making about 100 together and clear out swamp folks, ghouls, black, Desmond and Dr Calvert etc, use the mansion and manor to get people to live in temporary, start planting punga fruit for food, hunt mirelurks for meat, Use the nuclear reactor under lighthouse and Chinese submarine to provide plenty of power , start a trade agreement with the Pitt we provide mirelurk meat, punga fruit and moonshine in exchange we get steel sheets and beams , we can build apartment buildings for families to live in etc, build a school, and a park,put gravel on old roads, fix the boardwalk for tourism and social activities, repair the boats laying around to use for trade and transportation etc and put steam engines in it sinse point lookout has plenty of trees, and after the population growth and development start making cars not regular size cars but golf cart size cars for families to drive around in and build a plant to produce, moonshine to drink or use as fuel in the cars and make punga fruit syrup to use to make punga flavor water drinks and a everyday punga alcohol wine cooler drink a tablespoon or 2 of moonshine in a bottle with syrup and fill with water and sell it etc, and afterwards point lookout and the Pitt can live prosperously together

      they have that stuff because pittsburgh is an industrial city and DC and boston aren't. it looks like it wasn't directly hit by nukes either, or at least not as heavily as other cities so it has more surviving infrastructure.

    • @noth1ng5id

      The steel mills are there because they have been here since the industrial revolution. Even now IRL there are abandoned and working mills all over the place. Most of the steel in the entire US comes from this region. The most important reason for Pittsburgh being the center of steel production during the industrial revolution were the rivers allowing shipping all the way to the Gulf of Mexico via the Mississippi River from the Ohio River. I expect those would also be factors post apocalyptic
      A couple decades ago the city and most of the major landmarks started power washing the stone on the buildings. I never knew how many of them were actually tan stone. Everything here was black.

    The Pitt is probably the best of Fallout 3 in terms of story and environment. The lack of black and white morality in this scenario actually makes for a hard, if flawed, decision at the end. My only issues are a lack of non-lethal options, and maybe the story itself isn't as deep or complex as I like my Fallout stories (just what does happen to the Pitt in the future? but those are questions I ask of Fallout 3 in total), but otherwise, it's a good Fallout scenario.

    Ox. It's a shame we won't have an episode tomorrow but we respect that you deserve a day off.
    I'll collect all my thoughts in one post:
    2:40 That's some version of an "Abrasive cut-off saw". These are usually gasoline powered and have a wheel similar to sandpaper but much stronger and more fibrous to cut through steel and other tough materials.
    9:30 I'm loving the depth that was put into this storyline. Somebody reeeeeally thought hard about how life as a slave would feel, and I respect that.
    17:55 "writhing" I love how you spoke that word.

    Your intros are so freaking good! This really sets the mood Oxhorn. Fantastic work. You deserve a career in this field. If that's not what you want, then you deserve to be monetized heavily on TH-cam and recognized throughout the gaming community. I love the independent style of this channel.

    This was years ago now since this video was released, but Oxhorn, did you know that there are stashes of hidden supplies around the Pitt? WHen you were exploring around Midea's house around the corner, there was a red engine block for a car at the bottom left of an alley. That has supplies inside of it, if I remember correctly from my playthrough a long time ago. There are a few more, very easy to miss unless you're very thorough.

    The steelmaking process you described is known as billeting. Ingots are the final product after smelting. Metal is melted in a huge crucible until liquid to burn out impurities and then poured into a mold.

  • @SwedishEmpire1700

    Kinda odd business, shouldnt it be easier to like send out armed guards with the slaves or fence off the area to pick up those 10 ingots, instead of sending out people to die and not get any ingots at all /just a few?

    • @greygale
      @greygale 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Luzur
      Yeah, that's kind of the problem with this whole deal. There's no point in sending slaves out to the steelyard just to die. It's a waste of resources. They can't bring back ingots if they're dead, so sending them out one by one with a gun and a handful of bullets is just throwing away the weapons AND the slaves.
      Even beyond the moral implications, slaves are expensive and valuable, and the fact that they have to be captured and brought in from surrounding communities and settlements just makes the Pitt a huge target. The fact that they're treated as completely disposable is nonsense, and utterly undermines the pragmatic argument the game tries to make for justifying Ashur's regime later on. It tries to present Ashur as a cruel but capable leader, but everything about how the Pitt is actually run shows that he's as incompetent and short-sighted as any mindless raider.

    Hey Ox! Just thought I'd mention that while it IS possible to save the slaves from the beginning, (I killed the guard with a tire iron and a sneak critical) the slaves don't seem particularly happy to not be dead. In fact if I recall correctly all they say is, "What the hell are you doing? You're only making it harder for the rest of us like that."

    oxhorn: Saves slaves but minutely heals a slave with a week left so he can work for half that time. personally dude, i put him down because if he had only a week to live, i think he deserved a break. i tend to also spend quite a bit of time in a DLC area before leaving. (the last dlc i did was Old World Blues, and i was there for about a month in game before ending it, but i usually do that or more when i visit a new area in games. also thanks for the ending help. i rather enjoy the think tank's personalities over a silent think tank. I ESPECIALLY ENJOY THE 60'S SCIFI B-MOVIE NARRATOR DR. BOROUS!)

      Nah, they would just fuck up everything. The main enemies would be racists; the games would be about slavery; and it would ruin the game like it ruined Mafia 3. I would rather see a Fallout in the Mid-West.

    • @brandonlyon730
      @brandonlyon730 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We already have slavers with Caesar's legion, the paradise falls guys, and of course here in the Pitt. And ghoul racism is already a thing in fallout franchise so it's not that big of a deal. Just as long they don't bring in anybody like the Mass effect androminda crew or anyone similar i think the South could use some love.
