  • This Tour now visits the Isle of Wight for the Nab Tower, St. Catherine's & The Needles Lighthouses.
I tried to visit the Nab before my redundancy from the Lighthouse Service caught up with me, but no go. Much later on, new rules at Trinity House meant I was foiled again by a refusal to visit. I've made do with what little amount of photographs that exist, along with Keepers audio recollections.
St. Catherine's and the Needles follow on from the Nab, but with my video footage.
Thank you to Pete Fitch, (ex Principal Keeper) and the Association of Lighthouse Keepers for their help in the Nab Tower portion of this video.

    Another fascinating documentary!
The wartime stories are of particular interest. The history that those towers and their keepers have seen is incredible, really.
    Thank you again, Peter! 🙂

Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it. I prefer to use bits from other Keepers interviews, if I have them. Thanks again and take care

I love the mention of the cardboard model. In Germany you can get cardboard models of lightships etc. They are fab. (German lightships unlike ours can move under their own power).

Thanks for that. Yes, I've no idea why our Lightships didn't have their own power to. Thanks again, stay safe

Thanks Mr Halil for another Sunday morning special. I saw the Nab pre refurb from the ferry to Bilbao. Even from a few miles away you can see the lean.
My experience of boat transfers not as hairy as keepers of old. Landing on the German island of Heligoland is via ship to an open tender, sometimes in fairly decent swells. Not in the same league as the rock stations 🤣

Thanks for that, I like all the memories etc that these videos trigger. Yes the leaning Nab Tower was quite a site and very noticeable inside to the Keepers. Cheers and stay safe.

Thank you very much and yes I'm well thanks. It's amazing how many fishermen love to fish around Lighthouses, lots of the Keepers fished also. Thanks again, happy fishing and stay safe.

Nice work! Just wondering, did Trinity House give you a legitimate reason for refusing you access to visit some of the lighthouses? It seems odd and unfair, given you were a lighthouse keeper for quite a while

Not really, they said their Insurers had new rules and they hinted that I was over the hill age wise! Ha. As I've said before, the Old Trinity House that I used to work for no longer exists, this new lot doesn't know me and I don't know them, such is life I guess. Cheers and stay safe.
