    This video appeared in my timeline and it is truly a blessing that I clicked on it. I wash my hair every two weeks and that works well for me. I started applying Jamaican Black castor oil on my scalp for a few months now and observed increased shedding and just ditched it on my last wash day. I also felt that it was clogging my pores and causing more hair loss so was not serving the purpose for which I had started applying it to my scalp. I have also ditched the LCO method and returned to my previous LC method. I am subscribing right now.

      Ayoolaaaaaa! Thank you so much for dropping by and watching today's Sunday video! • @ayoolascott
      @ayoolascott 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FineNaturalHairROCKS loll….hey Lav!! 🤗. So I have switched to bi-weekly wash days now as well! Here is my typical wash day this past month …
      1. Spritz my hair with water and add a bit of the melanin multi-use oil to help detangle
      2. Shampoo - I just grab one of my Shea Moisture shampoos because I have a couple I want to use up
      3. Deep Condition - Soultanicals! 😁. No extra heat because my high-porosity hair doesn’t really need it
      4. Moisturize & twist - Melanin multi-oil & elongating cream. Let my hair air dry and try to keep my hair stretched in twists/braids until next wash day!
      I felt that I was doing the most and I just needed to take a step back. My fine strands are too fragile and can’t handle too much manipulation. I no longer feel I need to have a separate leave-in either. Ever since getting a good trim last month my hair feels so much better as well. I do plan to trim more often too. So that’s what I’ve been doing lately girl 💕🙂

      @@ayoolascott Giiiiirl, your regimen is SOLID, I absolutely love it! It's funny that you mentioned simply using up shampoos; I've been in a similar situation as well with my shampoo collection since for the most part, I think they all pretty much perform the same way. As for the Soultanicals deep conditioners, my GOODNESS THEY ARE GOOOOOOD!!!! 😍😍😍 I'm trying to hold back from not purchasing unnecessarily but it's soo hard with the new product drops that keep coming out! 😂
      I like that you also mentioned using Melanin. I want to try out her products but I'm afraid since a few other fine naturals mentioned that its really heavy. Nevertheless, it sounds like Melanin is working super well for you! Its smart of you to be on top of your trims too. I can definitely see a difference in my fine strands when I don't skip trim day. You're definitely on the right track though!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

    • @ayoolascott
      @ayoolascott 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FineNaturalHairROCKS awww.. thanks girl!! I feel the same about shampoo and yes … Soultanicals is soooo good! 😁
      Interesting..I personally don’t find Melanin to be too heavy or weigh my hair down. I find a little goes along way for my strands so I don’t use much at all on each section. I find the oil nice and light as well. If you ever give it a try one day let me know 😉. I find even though I have fine strands .. thicker butters moisturize my hair better. But I mindful not to use a lot of product. I found that very light products like a spritz, etc don’t do much for my hair and the moisture doesn’t even last a day! I do have high porosity though.
      Oh, and the Felicia Leatherwood brush was a no for me.. even when I was being so gentle, I swear it was snapping my strands! 🤦🏽‍♀️

    YASS! I have noticed less is more for my fine strands, too. I must have great scissors, wash my hair when hydrating is difficult with product, do wigs, braids and twists more because they cause less tension, only use deep conditioners (but I will deep condition with a regular conditioner if items are sold out), eat healthy plus exercise, only use a leave-in or cream after washing, use second day hair refresher or my own clove water/flaxseed gel mix for added moisture until next wash day. I still have to invest in a Revair. I'm still thinking of locing my hair because it loves to tangles up on itself often. In the meantime, I know my hair thrives when I do less. I do finger detangle and use a tangle teaser for additional detangling. I still steam but only when I feel up to doing it.

      Ohhh wow! Your regimen sounds AMAZING!!! If you decide to get locs, will you be installing them this year? I only ask that, because the Revair continues to get more expensive, so you may want to get it sooner rather than later if you're not loc'ing this year; but if you are loc'ing this year than you definitely won't need the Revair at all which is amazing for saving money!!! 😍

      @@FineNaturalHairROCKS great video. I came over to check out your channel after our recent comment exchange. I too had almost given up on rinse out conditioners as well until,,,, I realized something. Whenever i go to professional hair stylist, they usually wash my hair and primarily only use rinse outs. In fact my stylist would say that I only really needed to DC 1-2 times a month. So oftentimes when I’m short on time I only use the rinse out. For the last 2yrs it’s been just Camille rose Moroccan, Mielle pomegranate, and recently I added the doux. All excellent rinse outs. About a yr or so ago African Hair God repeated the same sentiments. My fine thin hair, like yours also doesn’t require heat every single DC application. We’ve totally complicated what should come “natural” to us, caring for our lovely natural tresses.

      Hey Wannella! Thanks so much for checking out this video! I'm glad you found it helpful! The derm doctor is a good first step for your itchy scalp. I also tried this before deciding to cut all additional products beyond the dermatologist-recommended shampoo and conditioner. Once I started reintroducing certain products back into my haircare regimen, it became clear that my JBCO was causing my problem. I hope this will work for you too! 💛

    Finally some solid advice! If I hear one more person say "drink water".😡😂 Like, sis I know!
    Anyway, I'm fine haired and high porosity. I feel like this is one of the hardest combos to retain length. Super tangle prone and weaker. I think less washing absolutely helps and I have tried to push it back several times but my scalp keeps taking me back to weekly. I feel like every other week would be ideal for my hair though.
    Lately, I've been using the original Keracare Professionals line. I've been focusing more on pH because higher pHs leave the cuticles raised and then you get tangles. Keracare is really focused on pH and keeping it low even with their shampoos. The creator does a ton of scientific research and lab tests on afro textured hair. The products work amazingly on my hair. I also keep it stretched with my Revair after every wash.

      Hey C Foster! Thank you so much for watching this video! I'm totally with you that the advice for our natural hair is usually generic and overstated! lol!!!
      In terms of your hair routine, I think its best to listen to what your scalp needs but also to use products that are gentle enough for your high porosity fine strands. What products are you currently using in addition to the Keracare Professionals line? Do they also have a good deep conditioner? I've noticed that deep conditioning my strands regularly really made the biggest difference when it came to the health and strength of my strands. As for the Revair, this. is. golden! I noticed last summer my hair grew like crazy when I was just using Amla oil and literally nothing else. I’d put the oil maybe once every 2 weeks(pretty much when I noticed my hair was dry) and I’d have it under my wig and I promise you my hair doubled in length. This was really bad but I washed my hair once in June and I think twice in July and it really grew a lot. This might not work for others but that’s what worked for me. My hair grows a lot when I lowkey abandon it and oil it only when it’s dry

    • @FineNaturalHairROCKS
      @FineNaturalHairROCKS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sweeeet, I've heard of the benefits of Amla oil for awhile now; particularly in Indian populations.
      As for your natural hair experience, I completely believe you that your hair health increased exponentially with the use of wigs and the oil. I've also noticed much less breakage on my strands when I use oils to seal in the ends. The oil seems to create great slip which then prevents my fine strands from breaking off on themselves.
      Less washings are also really helpful, but in my experience, they're only helpful if my scalp is free of irritation and buildup. It sounds like our regimens are really similar to each others in the sense of using low manipulation to grow longer, healthier strands! Thanks so much for sharing your regimen with me and for watching this video! I really appreciate it 💛🤗

      Hey there! Thanks for watching! Which part of the advice is debatable? I’d love to hear more. 💛

    • @katintheoc
      @katintheoc ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FineNaturalHairROCKS I really appreciate the question and you being open-minded enough to ask. Before I go into the debatable parts, I really like your last point about positivity.. Now, having said that-I have been natural for 11 years and I have fine hair, more silky in texture. I joined Black Girl Curls a couple months back, you may have seen some of their videos or the 30-day here detox challenge, etc. I have learned how to cleanse, condition, and style my hair in a way that promotes hydration and healthy hair. Most of what you mention in your list of things you no longer do, and things you now do, are very helpful; however, the following is of particular concern based on my own experience, as well as the thousands of members in the BGC group, which is ran by licensed cosmetologists I might add: Not using rinse-out conditioner- by not using a rinse out conditioner on a regular basis, one may be subjecting themselves to losing out on a critical hydration step. Also, deep conditioners definitely serve a purpose, but when used in place of a rinse-out conditioner, they may result in over-moisturization, and should be cautioned when used regularly and in place of a rinse-out conditioner; the LOC or LC methods, when used in order to achieve hydration, are also debatable. Scientifically speaking, neither creams nor oils serve the purpose of hydrating your hair in place of properly cleansing and conditioning. Washing every two weeks could prove problematic for some people, as cleansing plays a critical role in hydrating your hair. While these things may work for you, if I went two weeks without washing my hair, I would, without a doubt, suffer massive breakage from the dryness that ensues from the lack of introducing water to my hair for such a prolonged period of time. And finally, keeping your hair in its stretched state doesn't always promote health/ hydration/growth. I respect and appreciate that these things work for you, but I definitely caution against advising others on these practices. Because a lot of women are losing hair following some of the unsubstantiated advice given out here on TH-cam. With all due respect, thank you for the opportunity to discuss my concerns with you.

    • @FineNaturalHairROCKS
      @FineNaturalHairROCKS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kat! Apologies for my tardy response as for some reason I did not receive the notification regarding your reply on my channel. Thank you so much for sharing the scientific approach to the general best practice of Black Girl Curls. I can appreciate that there is a lot of misinformation/unsubstantiated advice for people here on TH-cam about how to take care of their afro-textured hair. Here on Fine Natural Hair ROCKS, I've always stressed the importance of people learning their own hair and leaning in to their own best practices based on their own hair trials/tribulations because that is what's worked for me.
      I've adopted this approach because educated afro-textured haircare specialists are hard to come by, and when they are available, they are very expensive. This means that people who want to take care of their hair are forced to take things into their own hands. That being said, my advice is never for others to adopt as their own regimen. It's simply what has worked for me. Nonetheless, I appreciate your comments because the information is solid and I'm always open to feedback whether its positive or constructive in nature. Thank you also, for mentioning the Black Girl Curls resource and their take on rinse-out conditioners. I will be sure to check this out further. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts with me. I really do appreciate it! 💛
