I just saw Joey Alexander for the first time playing with this trio a few weeks ago in January 2023 at The Jazz Forum in Tarrytown, NY . All I can say is that Joey is incredible. Kris Funn and John Davis are incredible as well. I sat just a few feet away from Joey, and it was just incredible to see such a young kid (man now at 19) compose and play such beautiful music. It's as if he'd been playing for 30 years. A musical prodigy to say the least. Looking forward to seeing them real soon. Kris Funn just blows me away too. He's awesome. Cheers to 2023 🥳
I count myself among the fortunate few who were able to watch Joey grow up in Jakarta, Indonesia, and later in the United States. The once-gentle Joey has blossomed into a towering virtuoso of the jazz piano, with a promising career ahead of him.
I saw Joey live a few years ago in concert. It was a wonderful experience. He is a gentle soul and for me his original compositions are something like otherworldly music--transports me to another reality. God bless, Joey!

We saw him at the gala honoring Quincy Jones, the Thursday before the Monterey Jazz festival in Monterey. He was 13 (I think). His parents were there. His mom was so nervous, she waited in the hall outside of the ballroom. They were as humble as he is, so, you knew he had a great family upbringing. Cool family.
I have watched the 8 yr old wonderchild grow into this young man who is virtually owning his place... in the place where music comes from. This is a fantastical journey thank you Joey and your amazing trio for taking me with you xoxo

Wow.... as an Indonesian, to be honest, I'm proud. Grammy's, NPR, and now... Rockpalast! I never thought someone from here could make it one day! I've only watched Rockstars and Jazz Cats from overseas doing it all these years, and well, now someone from my place made it. But I don't like him only because he came from where I'm from. But his music is... I don't know how to describe it! It's just so good! I love you! And I wish our people appreciate you more than they do... Of course, you belong someplace better, and I'm glad you traveled.

Great stuff!! please check out the late English jazz piano player "Stan Tracey" he was an amazing innovator who I was lucky enough to see live 2 times. He had a great trio with his son playing drums. loads of his music on here. (Check out Stan Tracey & Bobby Wellins playing Thelonius monk tunes).
