I am Japanese and used to use it when I moved to Tokyo and was looking for an apartment. It is too hot in the middle of summer in Tokyo. The air conditioner is working and you can drink as much as you want. The night package is even cheaper, so I would order a beer and sleep until morning. I also often use it when I miss the last train after a night of drinking. The first train in Ikebukuro leaves at 5:00 a.m., so a manga café is the perfect place to get some sleep.
I'm just curious why people in japan when they miss the last train didn't order taxi/uber to get home instead they sleep over internet cafe at that night

It's reassuring knowing that people struggling financially or that need a safe space for the night have café's like these as an option. It'd be nice to see places of this standard on a global scale but of course it's always easier said, than done. Especially when most places in the west (at the very least) prefer investing in ways to pretend that there aren't homeless people in their cities.
You were seen in a similar way, even if it wasn't directly on camera. But when you got the ice cream. Now I finally know who is behind this great video. Greetings from Oldenburg Germany
It's very difficult for us in the West to understand just how valued privacy is in Japan. I remember seeing a Natural History programme where a geologist explored how the geology and geography of the country affected its culture. To keep it simple, most of the population is crammed into a very small area of land that is relatively flat. The need to keep tensions down between so many individuals occupying what little liveable space there is has led to a very ritualised polite society. It also means that privacy, as we lucky sods in the West know it, is rare in Japan and considered a luxury. As small as that space is, the fact you can rent it per hour for as long as you want is a perk. To have such things as food and drink there makes it almost paradisical...
That is really amazing value for money, with all those free drinks, soup and ice-cream. I think it only works in Japan, because in other places, people would take too much, not clean up, not take care of the machines etc. The same goes for the capsule hotels, where you sometimes even get free alcoholic drinks. People dont take advantage, and that why it works.
That Apple Pie à la Mode looked fantastic, but the vibrant blue sauce for the fries and chicken looked like it came straight out of a nuclear reactor. XD
