  • Aggressive calorie deficit dieting, when implemented responsibly and for the appropriate duration, can be a beneficial tool for certain individuals. While it is generally advised to approach weight loss and nutrition in a sustainable and balanced manner, there are situations where aggressive calorie deficit dieting may have some potential benefits.
For some people with obesity or significant excess weight, rapid and noticeable results can be motivating. An aggressive calorie deficit diet can jumpstart their weight loss journey, leading to initial successes that encourage them to continue on a healthier path. Additionally, individuals facing health risks related to obesity, such as diabetes or cardiovascular issues, may benefit from more rapid weight loss to reduce these risks quickly.
Furthermore, aggressive calorie deficit diets can be appropriate for certain time-limited circumstances, such as preparing for weight-related surgeries or meeting weight requirements for certain sports or professions. In such cases, supervised aggressive dieting, along with medical guidance, can help achieve the necessary weight targets within a specific timeframe.
Moreover, short-term aggressive calorie deficit diets may also help break unhealthy eating habits and reliance on processed or high-calorie foods. Resetting one's eating patterns can lead to better long-term adherence to healthier eating practices.
However, it is crucial to emphasize that aggressive calorie deficit dieting must be approached with caution and under professional supervision. Potential drawbacks include nutrient deficiencies, loss of lean muscle mass, metabolic slowdown, and the risk of developing eating disorders. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that nutrient needs are met through carefully planned meals, and regular physical activity is included to minimize muscle loss.
In conclusion, while aggressive calorie deficit dieting is not suitable for everyone and should not be a long-term approach, there are specific scenarios where it can be utilized responsibly to yield short-term benefits, such as providing motivation, addressing health risks, or meeting specific weight-related goals. Always consult with a qualified healthcare or nutrition professional before embarking on any extreme diet to ensure it aligns with individual health needs and goals.

I lost 50 kg fat in one year. I went from 140 kg to 90 kg. Almost shreded and kept alot of muscle mass i worked for 10 years. What i did was going into extreme fasting. I would go many days with like 2 protein bars, vitamin supplements and a protein powder. I would do this periodically and then pause for couple of days sometimes even a week but not overest during pause. Imo the body can do extreme fat loss despite everyone saying do it slow. Alot is just extreme mental challenge but its doable. I didnt lose muscle strength either, workouts were mentally challenging but doable.

That would be the same method as everyone else who want to gain minimal amounts of fat while building muscle. Find you total daily expenditure with the calories you burn while training included, add a few hundred extra calories on that. Lift weights, weigh yourself daily and average it out over the week to monitor your weightgain. If you gain too much weight, lower calories, if you gain too little, increase calories.

Thanks but I was asking James if he’d make a fun video about it - not asking for the opinion of a random person.

Does this 200g protein method work if you just want to lose weight though? I've lost 6 stone in about 7 months and it's down to restricting myself to less than 1800 calories a day but a mixture of different foods to make sure I don't have anything I neglect. I've not deviated from it for the time I've been doing it and I feel fine but if there are better methods, I'd be intrigued to learn. I've recently started gym twice a week, but purely cardio.

I've struggled with weight loss all my life and at 34, I've been hitting the gym for the last 3 months and not eating at such an aggressive deficit.
    Right now, I'm down 46lb / 21kg.
Aggressive calorie deficits were probably the reason why I kept starting and stopping. So now I just eat 1000kcal under my TDEE and make sure I eat a lot of protein through non-processed foods and eating carbs that keep me full. I enjoy the gym 6 days a week and never feel what I am eating is "boring".
Anyway, this post wasn't meant to brag about my success. I still have a way to go but I would say aggressive calorie deficit dieting was why I couldn't stick to diets and fitness - it just took me a long time to realise that. Now I live my life with a steady fat loss process while building muscle. My physical and mental health has never been better.
