I recently bought a C6 Z06 with 28K miles for $40K and I put $8000 in the motor all Texas speed parts. Makes 750HP naturally aspirated and it’s a total monster, and still gets 20 MPG.
Trying to get my c6z built. I’m in OR and shops are quoting me $10-15k for just fixed heads and cam parts+labor+tune?? Is this really high is it just my area? Thinking of trying to research a ton and just take the project on myself but I’ve never done something this complicated. I guess I’m asking what all did you get done to your car for $8k wherever you live?
@@samuelgibson2120do the work yourself do some research, take your time and do it right. So much more rewarding and you save a shit ton of money. I used to pay someone to do my work. But these ls motors are very easy and simple to work on. Drain the coolant & oil pull the heads, lifters, when u swap the cam make sure u line the dot on the crank and the dot on the cam gear put & put a new cam plate on. Just get a heads cam kit that comes with everything.
Just from the little I can tell, the drivability of yours looks smoother than mine and your idle sounds a lot crisper. Did you have any intake clearance issues? Mine hits the water pump. My heads are shaved .030, not sure if yours are.

Wondering if your brake pedal issue is just a lack of vacuum from having a larger camshaft? I don't know if the C6 still uses vacuum assisted braking, or if it's more modern like newer cars...just a thought.

Badass setup man! On my previous Z06, I installed a twin disc monster clutch with a tick slave and loved it. I previously had a Corsa Extreme on this one but it was a bit too loud for my liking. I never knew how much I’d appreciate the ability to quieter on command.
Thank you! I ran F80(BMW M3) spec wheels. 18x10.5 +22 Fronts and 18x11 +34 Rears. Tires were 275/35/18 Fronts and 305/35/18 Rears. Don’t be discouraged by the forums that say “you can’t run a 5x120 lug pattern” as opposed to our 5x120.6 lug pattern. I’ve run many 5x120 wheels without any issues whatsoever.
Beautiful Z bud. Nicely done with it all being put together by yourself. As for the clutch, do you intend on going with the Monster Tripple or a McCloud? I'm still looking around for the right Z for the right price in my area, something that doesn't break the bank for a nice weekend track toy.

@@ssoffshore5111 if you have a Z06, you could benefit more from 2 inch Headers given the 7.0 does like to breathe. You really can’t go wrong with either though!
A valve drop will always remain a possibility unfortunately however, the odds of it actually happening are less likely now with all the “preventive” measures I’ve done.
Do you think roller rockers and taller valve covers will alleviate any valve train noise ? I'm getting a ticking every once in awhile from the valve train. I pulled the valve covers to see if there was any obvious issues, loose rockers, pushrod, etc., looked all tight, I did see some scratching on the inside of the valve covers potentially hitting the valve covers. BTR Stage 3 cam and valve train with heads being done 2 years ago, maybe 2000 miles, what do you think ?@@fantasma_tx
Great car! A lot of us pealed off the little "GM" chicklet from our Z's. I guess it was the whole Obama era bailout of car companies. Just seemed out of style since no other Corvette came with GM logo on the outside. Only other tip I would give is, be on the lookout for seat covers, if you drive a lot. I lost my driver seat, and could not buy the leather again from GM.

Thankfully, I haven’t experienced any abnormal wear but I do plan on swapping them in the near future as I was all over the place when I tracked the Vette.
Why do you have that ratchet ass switch for exhaust in the glove compartment lol. I would have kept stock mufflers and put on the $80 mild 2 wild remote. Love having it on a remote

Pre 2008 models are equipped with the T56 Transmission and 2008+ are equipped with the TR-6060. To my knowledge, no changes were made apart from transmission change itself.
@@fantasma_tx What tires have you found in 19/20 that actually hook okay? I have a set of silver C7Z wheels on my black C6Z and love the way it looks, but tires in these sizes that actually semi-hook are few!
I wouldnt keep a c6z if it was free. With valve guide drop or titanium sodium rods breaking and it has happened on stock cars with mild driving. Sounds like its nice to have 45k on had to replace a few engines.
Titanium sodium rods? You sound you don't know shit about the LS7 or the issues and what needs to be addressed. The guides came oversized from the supplier, linamar,the sodium filled exhaust valve is not Titanium,ther le has been a issue with the early LS rods having the coating wear off due to the GM brass not taking the added steps in the coating process. Heads get fixed with ferra hollow STAINLESS STEEL exhaust valves, the Titanium intake valves can be reused. Maybe go do research before commenting on this guy's video,and no the engines aren't 20k your too poor probably to own a c6 z06😂😂😂😂
Here, I'll save you 13 minutes (with a more important message below): Step 1. Buy a cam, intake manifold, and Halltech CAI (or Vararam). Step 2. Slight work to heads, and valve springs. Step 3. Tune. Here's a more important tip: it will help to speak to the camshaft seller, because just slapping a donkey-dick cam in to make 600whp+ isn't all that there is to it. You can put a gigantic 248/262 camshaft in there to make maximum dyno numbers, but your driveability will suffer because where you make power will shift higher into the RPM range. You'll end up with a car that you can brag that it makes 6xx whp, but you'll hate driving it. Oh, and it will need valve springs replaced more often. Or, you can get a smaller camshaft that will make less power near redline, but you'll make more power and more torque throughout the rest of the RPM range. Finally, if your dyno graph shows STD instead of SAE, it's because they wanted to inflate your numbers.
unfortunately these and many other vehickes wont be road legal by 2027 and ins companies wont insure unless its a ev and fully internet connected by 32' . It is how they will force ev's or else. I say to them f the f off.

Nice. My build is nearly identical to yours. Only real difference is I’m still on stock injectors. Made 628whp and went 10.1 at the track.

For that exhaust switch, I've seen it wired on the deadpedal. That way you can discreetly click it if you see a cop or something lol

That's very low numbers for a cammed Ls2. My 05 CTS-V made 390 with headers, cai and a tune.

I had tony spec mine heads intake and smaller cam. Did the cluch and tick slave cylinder. Hooker dual note exhaust, scary when it opens.

It is $3k or less to fix the valve drop issue. Just incorporate that in the cost and you are fine.

I wouldn’t recommend it in all honesty. I’ve driven it in light snow with no problem but clearance is my most common concern with it.
