Momota was absolutely the "next Lin Dan" everyone was asking for, another player at that unbelievably high level and far above anyone else. I'm certain that if he wasn't suspended and didn't have that car crash, he would have continued his dominance from 2019 and won gold at Tokyo without a doubt, reaching the heights Lin Dan did and also winning multiple world championships and All England etc. Then we would have had a great rivalry between Momota and 2020+ Axelsen.
So many set backs, so many off court struggles. What a pity for us but we have also to be thankful that he is still alive and well today despite that horrible car accident. He has won the fans hearts and this tribute is a great reminder of the wonderful rallies we will not see again. His shuttle touch, the game sense and defensive strength was frustrating to many opponents.
His eyesight was what was damaged and that's what it took to take him from GOAT to average pro player. Watching these shots again - one thing is obvious to me is that he had incredible eyes, reflexes and reaction times. All of that was gone after the accident.

Thank you for this video. It shows how brillant Kento Momota is. It is a video to treasure, esp to be able to watch Kento Momota play in his prime. Appreciate it!
Kento Momota one of the best of times. When he got going, he truly was an unstoppable machine, so enjoyable and fun to watch, will be fondly remembered and missed as on of my Fav Badminton players of all time
He s the same one like LCW with amazing control & deep passion at beast level. I thought I would rule the badmintion world like Lee & Lin but bad time. But Happy time waits for u my king Momota ❤❤❤
He was so much in control of his shots, it felt like he softly placed the shots where he wanted them without exerting much upper body power, just a bit of arm pronation and finger pressure. Also I miss Chen Long's meme faces like 10:33 😂.
Its weird to see that Viktor Axelsen, the currest world #1 was NOTHING compared to momota. I looked up there head2head stats and momota beat him 16 - 3. The 3 times axelsen beat momota was AFTER his unfortunate accident.
if momota's playstyle against axelsen is still being considered as of now , every top player in the world would probably won't have a hard time against axelsen , since they can js adapt momota's playstyle and use it against the present axelsen
Because of him I regained my interest in badminton. I wanted to play like him - those strokes, that movement. Felt really sad when came to know about his retirement, wanted to see him play more, win more.
I am really looking forward to see someone like him left handed player in near future. Though it's hard to replace his skill set. Truly amazing champion. Happy retirement the Legend.
the tight net play reminds me of kento fight agaisnt with dato lee chong wei when lcw net shots surprised him , is good to see him now is the person make the opponents surprise.

Best Player ever to not win Olympics. He easily beat Chen Long and Axelsen in their primes. Shame on Japan who failed as a country in not supporting and forgiving him.
I wouldn't say Chen Long or Axelsen was in their prime when momota beat them. Chen Long especially wasn't in his prime after he got married and had a child but I do agree Momota was an amazing player and it is sad to see that Japan was so strict on him but nevertheless that's why Japan is Japan. It would have set a terrible example for the citizens of the country if he got an exemption from their federal law just because he was a sports star.
@@DKMondays I meant to say, could have beaten them in their primes. Set a bad example? Rules are always bent by politicians for their own profit. Sadly Momota didn't have anyone's favor.
@@enigma137 we all know a lot of politicians are corrupt and they have too much power but a sports star doesn't quite have that much power if anything it's a great way for a politician to do something illegal then cover it up by making kento momotas gambling a bigger deal than it is so their citizens forget or don't even see the news that a politician did something bad. It's quite a common tactic for a lot of countries to do that. Momota was good but I don't know if I would confidently agree that he would have beat prime chen long given their play styles. Chen Long would have been the best in the world without Lin Dan and Lee chong wei and we both know even prime Momota is not beating prime Lin Dan or Lee Chong Wei so if Momota was born 10 years before he was the he would have been in the same shoes as Chen Long. @@DKMondays Sportstars are known to be wild, especially elite footballers, sadly they are not given such rigorous punishment. Porn filming is legal but gambling is not in Japan. It's just ridiculous. Also the gambling incident. Basically, he never really got to play in any olympics due to one thing or another -- I could see why that's so detrimental for his mental health. I did at least want to see him play in this next olympic and then retire.
It's just a bad excuse. He only needed 3 months of rest after the accident, he could play freely after that. Every player have injuries, only the real champions can reach their best level after an injury.
