i just discovered your channel i really like your cool vintage white truck and love hearing that 671 run thanks for taking us on the ride and like riding along in you mates old mack a very cool old truck too i am in the us like seeing other people enjoying old iron like yours
Hi mate thanks for watching and reaching out. It’s much appreciated. Go back through my channel and there’s plenty more of the White and my other trucks, including 2 Detroit powered Kenworths. It’s our pleasure to share it and thanks again
A double trip down memory lane. A mate of my Dad carted Cattle in West Qld with an R model in the 70's with a quad box pulling 2 deck doubles. I tagged along in school holidays That man amazed me it was full on hard rough work, camping in a swag and bloody noisy and he taught me how to drive a truck but I fell in love with it. Later years 1980 I was hauling K102 871 15sp od Kenworth with doubles across the top end but marriage put a end until a mate asked me to give him a hand 2 up pulling machinery out of Brisbane to Cairns with his SAR 8-92 18sp while that was luxury the old R model was more fun. Love the Vids, keep it up and I will keep watching
Hi Graeme, this is a good story mate. I’m sure those blokes did it tough years ago in these trucks. Just imagine driving it all day and camping and getting up to do it all again, certainly we’re hard blokes. My family all did it too years ago working in the bush. Great trucks though. I haven’t got a Mack like that yet but I do have a few old Kenworth cabover trucks with 8v71 in them. They featured in earlier episodes. Thanks for reaching out mate and there’s plenty more to come
good morning Steve good to see you hit the 10'000 subs mate that blue flat top looks good behind that truck a little work and it will look mint mate thanks for taken us on the trip have a top weekend mate
Hi John. Yes mate I’m happy with it. It’s growing nicely at the moment. I’m enjoying though regardless of how many I have. It does look good on that truck yes, and not a lot of work to tidy it up really. I like taking you all on a trip. Many happy returns mate
I seriously love that truck. It is so clean. Don’t change anything on it (well, the 671 deserves a turbo!). That 65 R600 is fucking evil looking, I love it. Thanks for sharing
Thank you mate. It is a great old truck. It was a wreck when I got it but I slowly did it up myself on a budget but it looks great. I have an 871 that would make it better but the inline 6 is very unique and has a sound of its own. My pleasure and thanks for watching
Now that flinstone Mack here we call them RD -600 beautiful old girl though I love those quad boxes I drove a 1964 b81 sx tandem dump to plow snow it had a 673 endt with a 18 SPD quad box great gearbox can do a lot of different work with them
Great viewer here great channel you Aussie guys have the best channels of the old trucks Mack’s Whites and I love the sound of that ole Detroit AKA green leaker driptroit diesel
Growing up in QLD in the 70/80's, you always knew there was a White somewhere in the distance. There were plenty of these units around then. The unmistakable sound of that engine is something else. That is a 73 model like myself and it looks in better nick, so a big thumbs up for the preservation. The camera in the cab is a good idea.
Hi mate thanks for watching. The Whites had a sound of their own, even with a Cummins in it for whatever reason. Certainly a great product. It is a 73 yes. Was in very poor condition, hence the reason I had to paint it. The camera is a good idea but it is very rough, being mounted straight to the window there’s no shock absorbing at all but still works alright
@@stevesplacedownunderhey Steve that’s just a myth that stems from the Coriolis effect. The myth was that the air spins different directions based on what hemisphere you live in but the air pressure different is so marginal that it’s nothing but exactly that. A myth. The coriolis force isn’t strong enough to make any difference at all on a small volume of water. It’s purely only the positioning of the water jets. Gday Steve, absolutely shit hot, the McGrath won’t take a lot to get right, I had the privilege of driving a R686 logging and float work and a T bag tipper pulling a dog, outa all the trucks I drove these 2 were the happiest fun times, you can’t beat old school, I started off in newish kenworths with 500 and 600hp and getting into 350hp was the best lesson, that taught ma a lot, awesome job mate, cheers
Hi mate, nice channel by the way. I’ve watched a few episodes now when I can. I can’t wait to work on it. We are doing up the 46 ford truck at the moment, but we may do a bit on it at the same time. The old trucks are great to drive, like you I also used to drive an R600 flintstone on float work. It was a 13 speed fuller and a 359 4 valve Mack engine. I used to move around our earthmoving equipment with it. Now we have a 550hp Kenworth and it’s not the same. I don’t do it much now either. Fantastic mate great to talk about it

Hello, Steve, from O'Fallon Missouri, don't get me cab overs built AMERICA, I drove one ,but moving the cab back from axle changed every thing, stay safe, mate.

Bugger' em, we're out fer a nice drive in the Mack! 8^) Cheers Steve, and Hi to Georgina.
Gday Jeff. It sure does make a noise. It did work out well in the Mack yes mate. I know what your saying indeed. Thanks again mate and she said to say hi back
You are so lucky to own so many old school trucks. Also you can’t beat old school sidelights and taillights. The only old school truck thing I have is a 1988 FTE fridge van. Also my dad is lucky to live during the time when trucks were trucks.
Hi mate thanks. It’s taken a lot of time to collect it all though and dollars. I enjoy doing it though and have the room for it. You should look around for one to play with. Yes my dad was the same and so where both sides of my family which is where I got it from. I’m not interested in being a full time driver, I just like playing with them and collecting them, and go on the odd run with them. Thanks for reaching out mate
@@stevesplacedownunder you’re welcome mate. I can see that you enjoy it very much. I wish I could get a old truck but I need to get a job to do that. I use to reach across my big belly and shift with my left just to see what it felt like LOL sorry mates I know that’s the way you have to do it down under but We Up over shift with our right hand I don’t know if it has to do with the equator like we flush toilets up here and it goes clock wise you flush down there and it goes counterclockwise
Yes mate that’s how we do it down here. We do a lot of things differently here😅😅. I’m not overly sure about the toilet flush, I believe it’s been a big debate over the years. You may well be right though 🤣🤣
Steve, can U please explain to me the difference of that flintstones quadbox and a normal gearbox with a joeybox? And what is about 2speed diffs? How are they diffrent from a normal diff? Another great video btw.
Hi mate. The main difference is that it’s all in one box in a quad box, where other makes are a separate 5 speed main box and a 2,3 or 4 speed auxiliary box linked by a jack shaft between them. A 2 speed diff is 2 different ratios in the on axle selected by a button or a lever on older trucks. Used mainly with a 5 speed main gearbox. A lot of the old trucks used them years ago to give more ratios because engines weren’t overly powerful back then.
Steve, jim Rioux from Connecticut, congratulations on 10k subscribers. A huge job on the full rebuild of the D9. I enjoyed seeing all the Macs your friend has. BTW what year was the Mack that delivered one of your new trailers. How much are trailer tires in your country. Again congratulations.
Hi Jim thank you. It was a huge job, we’ve done a few now, D8,D6, d10 and dump trucks. It’s a 1966 model the Mack. Trailer tyres for a low to middle range one would be $280-300 each fitted, that’s Australian dollars. It’s not bad but it adds up also. But I don’t work them so they would last the life of the trailer once fitted. Thanks again Jim
You may be right mate, Vaughans does ring a bell. I know it was privately owned also by a good mate of mine’s uncle, who drove it to every city here in Australia, but he was unfortunately killed years ago in another truck. 2 of my mate are supposedly going to get it back on the road so when that happens I will be there with the camera and will hopefully get more information about it
