      Phil Donahue did not get fired because he was agains the Iraq war, I mean he was raplaced by Keith Olbermann, you could not be more agaist the Iraq war more then Keith Olbermann, even in the early days there were other good journalist on air saying how Iraq was such a bad idea. But because he did not take sided between Republican and Democrat. I meann i hate these reporters but you can see it in John Stossel and Kennedy of Fox of how they took a side and abandoned some of there own beliefs and they were rewarded by fox. And ever now and again I wince at Rachel Maddow and Alex Wagner because I respect them as news makers and interpriters so much but thet two have tacken their sides and hunckered down

      It is public knowledge now, that Phil Donahue was fired by MSNBC, for his anti-war stance & that Donahue threatened Chris Mathew’s influence on the channel.

    Phil Donahue's great talent was asking questions. He'd take his microphone to his show's audience and pose a question, then let ordinary people express their thoughts and feelings, thus creating a stimulating conversation among the people across our nation. NBC had always been a progressive TV network, but when they fired Phil to narrow the debate to pro-war voices venting or posing tepid questions like, "Well, how many weapons of mass destruction does Saddam Hussein have?" NBC lost its usefulness. Then MSNBC, supposedly offering a liberal alternative, is mainly a platform for centrists in the Democratic Party wing of the duopoly, and it isn't even available for most viewers across the nation because of the cable monopolies (great swaths of the U.S. have no access to any other national news network but Fox News) who only offer MSNBC as part of expensive premium subscriptions.

    Phil said at one point he had to have 2 rightwingers on his show for every left winger. Thats still more evenly matched than most FOX"news" shows.

    They are also attacked in vicious ways! They are descredited and in some case thriven to commit suicide! Like the journalist that published an article about the CIA connection with Drug Traffiking to financed the Contra War against the Sandinistas in Nicaragua back at the end of the 70s.

    The Phil of old was sharp, focused and tenacious. Now, he seems lost in the past with a tone of resignation in his voice. Sad.

    Redistribution of the wealth, which ALL our ancestors worked for, fought for, and do so without delay - people are living on the streets, no affordable housing, education, health-care and the rich go on getting richer and the poor getting poorer and the numb ers of people living without a roof over their heads, keep on growing.

      I was 21 and I was running around the nation to dog shows and busy trying to build my own life and eventually married and raising 4 kids… and tho I watched him all growing up, I wasn’t really paying attention to cable news or talk shows, or really any TV for a few years there. I honestly just thought he retired. The show moved on and for new shows, and he went to enjoy his family and everything he had worked for. Guess I definitely missed something. 😢

    Paul, I love your interview style (focus on personal history etc.), but Phil Donahue doesn't come close to the political analysis of Glen Ford, Gar Alperovitz, etc. Would love to see you interview more women and POC. Maybe I just haven't seen those interviews??

    With the title of your first episode with Donahue "The Radicalization of Phil Donahue", I thought, interesting, a popular establishment media figure has moved to the far left. But with this episode, it's clear Donahue is still stuck in liberal bourgeois politics. When Paul was talking about the Elites, it's obvious Donahue was very confused. He named Amy Goodman as an Elite. Then Donahue goes on to name Obamabots, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton lol

    • @sertorrhenclegane
      @sertorrhenclegane 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, he said Amy Goodman wouldn't be found amongst the Elite as well as Mr. Kucinich and Paul Jay.

    • @michellespiritual7729
      @michellespiritual7729 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mike James - NOOO, Paul said Amy Goodman, didn't he?
      And Donahue was just mentioning the people he had on his show that he admired that didn't back down from the fight, nothing to do with them being the "elite."

    Hey TRN, I understand why this guy is on your show since you're based in the states and he's a recognized public figure etc BUT I think if you're going to talk about marginalized folks and human rights movements you ought to get the activists and oppressed talking about their struggles (like you covered marvelously with Eddie Conway) rather than some white straight cisguy who feel righteous in his 'tearing up'. Give a platform to those of us who are silenced, you have the means!

    This is probably the most disappointing "RAI" that I have seen so far. Donahue isn't offering anything but his personal perspective on common knowledge. I find his knowledge of historical events to be basic at best, he had no significant original thought, he doesn't articulate an in depth understanding of the topics,...
    The interview was a waste of my time. Unless part 3 is actually covering Donahue's (hopefully) in depth knowledge of corporate media practices and flaws, I will have truly wasted an hour of my life. I'm a big supporter of TRN but this has been awful so far. What are we supposed to be learning? If Donahue were actually a member of any of the socially constructed groups he's "tearing up" for, than this interview might have had some relevance so far.

    • @Boxinggenius1
      @Boxinggenius1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      2dogs Where does it say I wanted "pure data" and what exactly is "pure data"? Are you familiar with these "RAI" segments?

    • @michellespiritual7729
      @michellespiritual7729 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Young Ton - I don't mean to be negative, but I have to say you are right.
      I happen to have LOVED Donahue back in the day when I watched him non stop in the 90's. Here I was thinking he may start his own alternative media channel, but I guess it would be too much work for him as he's 83 now.
      It's still good to hear his voice though, but TRN is too mainstream for me most of the time.
      I'm currently learning how & WHY our society is like this & there is war all the time & why we are slaves to the gov't & the EVIL CORPS, & Paul doesn't seem to have a clue. : (
